Great fun on east bound and down. Man the game really changes with a ground commander. Crew was ripping us apart when I finally had to leave. I managed to kill an OSA and 1 Tung before crew got their radars shut down. He would us these against us later. Lol
Hello, I am new to online flight. I have downloaded TS3 and "configured", (I hope correctly) I have been up on the TS3 server but no one there...Is there a time that there is a learning session? I am a west coaster, Abbotsford BC so that time zone is best for me.
Hey Rocky, Welcome to SimHQ and the Firehouse thread!
We do some organized events, but most of the time it is just 'come on in and be comfortable'. The regulars on the SimHQ TS channel can be found at Eno's Firehouse and the Hollo Pointe servers for DCS World -- and the designated TS channels for them. We run a variety of missions for lots of the DCS platforms.
Days don't see a lot of folks but we do get rocking in the evenings. We had a good session last night until too late
Both of those servers are usually open, so you can join whenever you want and practice stuff. Read the briefings to know what to do!
Say Hi! on TS.
You should see some dedicated training servers listed -- and Eno runs some training missions now and then. You can always join a combat mission and stay off to the side to watch the action and hear the conversations. The most fun you will have with DCS is in multiplayer. We have a good group of folks on our servers.
I do like the OPFOR GC role. I am setting the ROE and Alarm State of different groups, and watching the paths and speed of the vehicles. If I see a vehicle or three stuck on a bridge or around debris, that is pretty easy to fix with the GC in control and a quick tap of the Autopilot key. Vehicles above 9 MPH will throw up dust trails that any Hog driver will spot almost as fast as a little black dress, so sometimes it is a quick dash from one city to another, and sometimes it is creeping along at 9 MPH with Weapons Hold Green. I do like having the ADA groups separate from the other vehicles -- these units have a much different role, and can screw up the progress of other vehicle groups.

If you guys do not want me eavesdropping in on the Blue TS channel as a Red GC, let me know And I will be happy to move over to the Red channel. It is a blast for me to listen in on you guys. Last night I had no F10 View of any Blue units -- a/c or ground -- so it was when I could see my units disappearing that I had an idea of where the attack was, plus what ever you all were saying. Hey, I give you guys some heads up, too, hee hee.

Eh Rocky-
Generally the regulars in the two servers are very accommodating but we recommend that you have done the training sessions available for your platform of choice and have a working knowledge of the basics. As crew says, the best place to learn is in MP- but we've found from experience that "How do I turn this thing on" and "how do I blow stuff up" gets old really- really fast. For that reason, we do have minimal expectations on the clients since the server is left open.
I'm FAR from saying that you couldn't go in there to work on your startup routines and keep off to the side a little bit to be a part of the activity and see where you can step in... but occasionally the guys do get focused on a task or in a mission and are simply too busy to spend much time walking through a problem with you. Tf you're in TS3 you can use common sense as to how much help will be available. I've seen guys leave the server to go help someone who needed it- but while this may sometimes be the case it shouldn't be expected.
I was circling over the target zone at the time, others were RTB or taking off again. One other was entering the TZ and sent out some Anti-Radiation missiles, successful hits. Suddenly the remaining say 5-7 SAMs on RWR went silent. After a minute or so I found them on TGP and then the server stopped. I didn't get any error messages or anything client side. All players were Blue force aircraft.
Thanks Wesley. That's what I wanted to hear- Mol left me a note later on saying he had a crash while he was in there that also seemed centered on the use of the SEAD capabilities of the SU25T.
On a separate note... work on the Georgia Peach campaign continues!
...The Georgian military advance into Abkhazia was swift and decisive, securing key strategic footholds in the Southern Sector including the tips of the GOT (Gali / Ochamchira / Tkvarcheli) Triangle. In Phase 3 they will work to suppress Abkhazian resistance forces in these areas, while also moving armor into place for a push through Sukhumi Barbushara Airbase. Lacking the manpower to do both, Georgian forces are expected to rely on mortars and other indirect fire weapons to dampen the will of Abkhazian resistance in the GOTT. Our PRIMARY objective will be to seek out and destroy those threats while interdicting Georgian army advances towards Suk-Bar...
Eno75...I have been flying DCS SP for years...I just have not gone multiplayer as the few times I tried found it a bit, well, juvenile but I see that you have rules about own side deaths so it appears that you folks have some control... Where I have no experience is with TS or TARS. That is what I need a check ride for..
Wrecking Crew...thank-you I have Paulrkiii's checklists on my ipad. As I said to Eno, I have been in the SP community at ED forums since 07 and a member of this site since 03. Is there a way to just observe while folks are online flying?
Both servers are protected against team kills, and we have admins who can kick and boot the 'juveniles' who do show on occasion.
Anyone who wants to come into Hollo Pointe and is civil and respectful of others -- and the mission, is welcome. There is a lot of territory on the map so you can always find an area away from the combat while still 'participating' in the mission.
For everyone out there reading this -- I can pretty well tell when some noob shows up -- jumping around from one slot to another and never staying in any a/c long enough to take off, or demanding to be told the SimHQ TS info (and then cussing about not getting it), or flying around the base looking like they are ready to open up on a teammate -- or following others and lining up on their six... You get the idea. My spider sense gets all tingly and my finger goes to the kick/ban button. I will usually text a warning, and when bad behavior continues then that's it -- Banned. Only one guy has come off of the Ban list on HP. If someone makes a mistake and owns up to it, that is no big deal in my book. OTOH, if someone comes in and shoots up the good guys and leaves that will result in them no longer being welcomed. We share our Ban lists.
That said, we have a lot of fun and fun conversations when not in the middle of an attack run. Yes, lots of questions and answers, differences of opinion, some good ribbing, sometimes a warning or a RTFM kinda comment. And sometimes folks will be asked to take their chatter to a different TS channel. I'm not very tolerant of someone asking, "Hey, how do I start this jet?", but then this weekend it was me asking, "How do I shoot rockets in this Huey?"
We have an assortment of Head To Head missions, as well as COOP. For the folks who want to go H2H, there are missions for it. Some folks do not like these, typical complaints are about enabled views like F5 and Fog Of War -- I like to list the View option at the top of the briefing. If you want to go H2H then we can do that and I think it is a blast.
Had joined the Firehouse earlier, about 4h into the mission and saw this nice tower. Sorry for lack of audio, I forgot to change capture source setting.
I think Xray was the first one to report this behavior- sadly it has been around for awhile and there isn't much a person can do about it I don't think except exactly what you did.
Rocky... We do get the occasional jagoff in the server by virtue of its open concept but Crew and I take the spirit of the servers very seriously. SLMOD helps in the absence of admins.
There are generally enough slots where you could pick one on a particular side during a mission and lurk for a bit while on TS3 to see how everything plays out. We don't run with a strict, regimented comms format that others require but if you have a familiar protocol you're free to take it to whatever level you like- Most of the comms is conversationaly informative... but as Crew said there's loads of chatter when we're not working on something. TARS has come up a couple times and I think it's time to take a look into that a little more.
That was pretty bizzar Wesley... I like the way you handled the situation. It appeared red forces were showing off. Struting their capabilities and you put them in their place. I thought you handled them perfectly.
