That's doable. Thanks Gordo. On another note I'm seeing a tremendous increase in discussions about mp servers inundated by "steamers." Tone thread of particular interest is from the 51 server- another unlocked server. Thread is located here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=111034 As a whole I think we have some of the most polite and tolerant membership of regulars that I've ever heard of- but I think this may push people away to locked servers. Constant aircraft switching, asking how to fly or how to shoot- even the Cntrl eee will get old quick. I know I keep talking about locking up the firehouse- but the pw would be available on this thread's first page. As most of you already know the common password is: fire safety It would also be freely available to anyone on simhq ts3. I could also see running a couple days a week unlocked for training missions or whathaveyou. Thoughts?

Maybe put up an admin message saying you're considering it? I'd hate to see it locked without any issues. If random pubbers come in and start trashing the server then it'd make more sense.

I had one person in last night asking " what button do you push to fly?" Gordo Hoss and I had another one the night before. I told them both that I was not going to type instructions. I told them to go to sim hq and join us on ts or work the training videos.
That may seem harsh but when you are about to roll in from behind a building on a shilka ready to make chaff out of your Huey. Tensions are high. Then someone types in "what button do I push to fly?"... I guess I must learn patience.

No that's exactly what you do- mol... And that's the point of what concerns me is going to happen as more and more of these guys show up. Some will bow out but others will get rammy.
Anyway it's something to think about.

I never understood people learning a game in multiplayer. For Pete's sake get the bare basics down yourself first. Learn the rest from people online (NOT IN CHAT). I guess I need patience too but at least it sounds like they were polite boobs and not in to blast expletives.

Well I don't recall any foul language in the chat but I am certain that all of us on TS were thinking it.

I can't read what's typed anyway so I just don't respond. Then again, with 3 screens the chat is way off on the top right, outa sight outa mind...

I just dropped in to see what was going on and to prepare to join and noticed it was a bit of a gaggle-f in there. Embarrassing actually.
I'm definitely leaning on PW protecting until the rush dies off. I'm going to let it play out for a bit and see what happens but that wasn't cool at all.

Yeah Eno; I was there with Mol; I tried to assist the guy but it was a lost cause; I explained enough to get someone going but it didn't sink in. It was pretty obvious there are a few people in there who don't know the basics of flight let alone how to operate the weapon systems/navigation and employ it. Watershed for me was when the guy didn't know what a rudder was... a few questions after that I suggested the Ctrl E x 3...

That is one of my favourite missions- and I'm hoping to make it better with an idea that mol suggested. Basically that raiding parties of infantry be distributed around the main routes... supported by the hueys and also of course the A-10s / KA50s. I think that would be pretty cool... but as you can imagine there is some major scripting interpretation that needs to be done.
Don't get me wrong, I can copy and paste with the rest of them- and there are other missions to get the basics from available for download.
It's about interpreting which part of the script pertains to which part of the mission- going through unit names and zones and which part of the overall action the script generates.
Not THAT hard... but time consuming in some respects. Basically what I need to be able to do is say that when the huey touches down for more than 30 seconds, infantry spill out. They'd need to have their own moving zone so that when the huey enters it and lands for more than 30 seconds, however many infantry are left get back on.
To replenish, you'd need to go back to a FARP... land... and that would get your infantry number back up to 11 or so.
Anyway- that's the idea.
I have that concept at work a little in Donkey Kong 55- where hueys can get a quick victory for blue if they go and land troops on the mountain top as quick as possible... each huey has 11 guys.
Neat aspect would be if two or more hueys land and disgorge all their troops and merge them with the really big convoys. That would be some firefight! I could set a trigger so that when the convoy enters the infantry moving zone, the convoy stops and their own infantry jump out...
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Now then- when do I find the time to implement that!? Oh wait... night shift!
