Sounds like fun. I will be on around 6:30 PAC time..
Hey! could I cast a vote for The Road To Persa? Damn that was a fun mission, one of my favs anyway..
I know that Donkey Kong is unplayable for me due to FPS, so that certainly wouldn't be my first choice. smile

I am looking forward to flying with you guys and my sexy new Horse of War cockpit this evening.. Best looking cockpit of any flight sim out there I think.. Truly a work of art for sure.

Go here and get it..

Keep in mind rider I eliminated a lot of the fps killers- especially by cutting the forces in half. Also took out some (most) of the artillery.

But yes- probably wont be dk anyway- road to Persia would be fine too but that's up to crew. Not sure if he's around.

Yeah I have been hovering on that. The initial kb had hogs launching from kc I believe it was- but it just didn't give the convoys enough time to spread out. Ill split it up so there are a flight of hogs at both... Some guys like the longer flight in. I don't mind it if I have a Wingie- but yes can be tedious if you're late to the party or get shot down. Part of the concept is to fly a bit more conservatively to play LIKE one life to live... Without actually doing it.

EB and D has some decent flight times... with some "in your face" and others a bit longer... Good spread of action, threat as well as been touched up a bit over time.

I'm in- see you guys in there!

Fun times last night, guys! I don't know what mission that was, but having ground commanders really added a challenging element. My $0.02USD, though, if the A-10s and helos had been working in closer concert (maybe under the direction of a Blue JTAC?) I think we would have been MUCH more effective. I was able to take out three Tunguskas, but every time I exited the area I was blind to incoming missiles and eventually took one up the tailpipe. If I had had mutual support, my wingman might have spotted the incoming missile and helped me avoid it.

Two-ships can implement pretty simple tactics like parallel attacks or wagon-wheels to greatly increase effective firepower. Would love to try it out next Tuesday!

I'd have loved to pair up as a Wingie but unfortunately after we got supper made I was seconded to assist with a last minute science project with one of sweetest's sons. By the time I got back in the server was empty.

Last nights at home are proving to be bad evenings for simming. Now I'm heading back up north on night shift. Nice thing about that is I get loads of mission editing done.

No need to explain how Real Life(tm) interferes with gaming to me! I think this is the first time I've flown online since the Fly In in February! We'll see ya when we see ya!

Okay folks... time to put a finger on the heartbeat of the community here. We're at 200,000 views and 2200 replies- A lot of regulars, a few guys who are in and out and probably a bunch of lurkers who are too shy to say anything.

It's hard to explain the challenge of trying to keep the doors open to all, the server up and running, the missions varied (and reliable)... trying to appeal to the new and seasoned with equal consideration- while also continuing to try new things and expose so many to the rigors of "beta testing" missions... frequent errors or logic gaps in scripting... etc.

I've talked to a lot of you in the past about some of the things we're doing well versus the things we need to try and improve- or at least stay on top of. Sometimes we're able to accommodate, other times we're not.

Anyway, feel free to send me a note in private if you'd rather keep it on the DL- or post it in here. There are some issues that we just can't help... other things might just take some time. I feel like it's feedback time!

? Is the question "How are we doing?"

I think you're doing great! I love the fact that there's a consistent server up, running the latest DCS World (not 1.1.1.1 standalone, thank you) and generating a bunch of mission content based on what folks seem to like. One of my goals is to learn more multiplayer tactics, which is awfully hard to do when you play as infrequently as I do, so I'm trying to change that. Having the Firehouse to go run to is great!

The fact that it's not password protected has always made me nervous, but turns out it hasn't been that big of an issue. You've also got a pretty wide distribution of admins to help counter any issues if they come up.

The mission content is good - well suited for the community.

Hehe, you barstewards! biggrin

I remember now I shot Tigerwulf with the door gunner's M60 when he was landing (I was trying to simulate a hot LZ...honest) and only winged him and I got kicked.

Here are some screens of my landings last night...

Who says you have to land the right way up?

Erm, I think that bit should be attached on the back somewhere...

Hey Eno, was playing a mission tonight (East Bound and Down I think the name was?) and saw a pile of tanks on a bridge.. Easy pickings, but it was a mistake I think. Woulda loved seeing it happen, did they spawn that way or just pyramid one at a time?

First things: Mace I'll get in there soonest and make sure you're okay. There's an "auto kick" and "auto ban"- so you may not have been banned completely. I'll make sure of it. (Edit: You managed to get yourself on the list and I've since removed the entry. You should be good to go- I think as soon as the game is restarted- I'm not sure if the bantables are monitored on an active basis or if it just loads the list at the beginning of the game.)

TC- that is some really ODD behavior... it looks like they're all stacked up- that's not right.

What I may need to do is blow that bridge when they advance... that way they will pathfind through other areas and avoid the bridge altogether. It will make the blue side's job decidedly more difficult. Blue will need to ensure to get some quick licks in very early on and take a sizeable chunk out of the reds.

On another note, I have another mission nearing completion called "E-Day."

The concept is that an incoming red invasion force has been working its way across the Black Sea from the west. This force consisted of the aircraft carrier Kuznetsov specially equipped with a large number of Mi-8 helicopters (sort of a Doolittle Raid idea) and their cargo, several large freighters, and some armed speedboats. The problem is that in grid EG the force encountered a heavy storm and got separated. They all ostensibly pointed their ships in the direction they were supposed to be heading and plodded through regardless. They are planning on landing somewhere along the Georgian coastline between Zugdidi and Batumi.

Each contingent of the force is carrying a certain number of ground vehicles that will, when close enough to land, deploy into defensive formations at various landing zones. When sufficient numbers exist in the respective landing zones, the vehicles will advance on their respective targets- specifically airfields at Kob, Sen and Bat. If successful in overrunning Ground Commander controlled defenses (smaller groups this time by request), then cargo aircraft will transit the region with a payload of defenders that will be all but impenetrable.

The way to prevent that is to either:

1) Intercept incoming transports and prevent the landings from happening.
2) Identify and patrol LZs, and destroy vehicles on the ground when they arrive.
3) Ground Commanders can thwart advances with a variety of armed task forces with assistance from air assets.
4) Shoot down incoming transport aircraft if airbases are overthrown and prevent the substantial reinforcements from arriving.

The blue side has the regular assortment of aircraft available- some lightly armed F-15s (for balance... to help find and destroy choppers at first, then to hunt down and stop the incoming waves of cargo aircraft), A-10C, SU25T, KA50 and UH-1s. I might put some Mustangs in there as well because the anti ship and anti chopper aspect may be fun for them.

I have minimized the anti air in a similar fashion that Crew did in Back to School. You guys have been wrestling some bristling AA resources, and I figured it was time for a little turkey shoot. YES, the landing zones do have light AAA (23mm emplacements) protecting them but with a little interaction with the A-10s (and P-51s?) that threat can promptly be eliminated. Huey's would be more of a patrol / recce mission... I might be able to set up some evacuation taskings at various airbases as well as the reds get close. Could be fun- but I might keep it simple.
