My Steam default path is:

\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma3\

Multiplayer missions go in the \MPMissions\ subdirectory there.

I'm not sure on the requirements, but unless you are using the dev branch there isn't a proper dedicated server system yet, so chances are total players will be lower. See if you can find out TigerWolfs specs as he has hosted a fair few Arma 3 evenings and they ran fairly smoothly. Other option is to just host a public server and keep an eye on it to see what performance is like while mowing the lawn or something.

Basically I just want to host............i.e. non dedicated and I was wanting to calculate the stable number I can host.I have in the past had a blast hosting passworded servers for a select group Arma3 will be no different as I don't care for coop (AI is stupid)and was looking to PVP.

Your connection should be good for 10 or 12 at least. No way to know, though. Just press on and watch for issues.

Also note that the red and yellow chains that you see in Arma are not always good indicators of trouble. Sometimes they appear when there is only a transient bump.
