@Blind: I was the one assisting you in the CA slot working the Avenger (Which is the first time I've played the ADA role; kind of interesting! Managed to knock out two Mavericks that were inbound to my location...one with the twin .50s and the other with a stinger shot), good times! (Will be sure to hop into a jet next time around).

@Eno: The three vehicles that spawn on the RedAir base had pretty limited ADA capability (M163s) which don't have the reach to outgun an A-10 (both Maverick and even the GAU-8 could kill that system outside it's effective slant range). I guess the key thing would be to have A-10's running interference during that time (but if the A-10's aren't in the area at present those three vehicles are toast); maybe something like an Avenger to make things more interesting? (Not very insurgent like!). I did however manage to keep one vehicle alive for 5-10 minutes by hiding it behind buildings and repositioning on his attack runs (and did get a few hits on him a few times with the 20mm!).

Our (Blind and myself) ultimate plan was to place a couple of the ADA platoons from other locations near the airbase and create some flak/SAM traps. Which if it's tactic that is used well could unbalance in favour of Blue side currently. BLUFOR has an M2 Bradley in each of it's ADA platoons while the Russian's have a BTR-80; if it came down to these two elements meeting (BLUFOR/OFPOR group with no air either side the bradley will wipe out the Red Anti Air pretty quickly).

Good feedback - I'll take more time later to process it...

I think I have a three day weekend coming up. Should be able to get some editing time in... Want to finish Shirley's Cross and look at what can be done with iShot - I too have seen what is described above, where it is pretty easy to recapture the bases after they've been taken.

A few ground commander slots definitely make ishot a bit more dynamic- in fact that may be the missing link to a couple of missions. (MOL!)

Nice thing about having a guy who can get things to move around a bit is that we can't always depend on things being exactly where they used to be... should make it an interesting challenge.

Mol, I work you over a bit for your meticulous note taking... the argument in support of what you're doing is that proper intel makes the missions easy- they don't HAVE to be hard...

But then again life doesn't always repeat itself... so we need some balance there.

I'm REALLy looking forward to getting back in the air with you guys and seeing this new CA interface at work. I'm literally giddy about it.

(I should stop being giddy- I'm getting some strange looks)

Tell you what Eno... last night Me and Turkey started out... with grids from my notes... and we started to work over the ground troops... and as I was marking targets for a Mav run I noticed the targets started moving. Turkey saw the same thing from a different location. We were both perplexed... because the scene had dramatically changed... I went to my next spot... and it was clear of all ground units..(my initial thought was you or Crew had come in and purposely built movement triggers for them to mess with me).confused

Finally I gave up and went to attacking the Buk sites. Turkey got one and I got the other. This helped matters greatly... but we discovered that Raptor had joined Red Ground Commander and made all the out lying Gorund troops congregate at Beslan. So there was a wad of vehicles at beslan to distroy... What happened is, that caused the us to do more work in a smaller place... and it made it easier for Raptor to defend Beslan. Because all the troops were in one spot.

However if Red defenders were ever out of position they could simply eject and respawn and be right on top of the fight. That was the reason I think the respawn points should be midway between home base and rearm base... It was very interesting mission last night. We really had to work.. there were 4-5 blue forces to 2 Red defenders. ready

Eno, you bring up some very valid points.

In our case last night, we had an good number of red and blue A10, CA and even KA-50 units in play. The problem was, if we were able to successfully flank the defensive A-A threats, any kill of Red units would result in a respawn that was beneficial defensively. That unit immediately respawned into a superior tactical position and consistently nerfed any offensive attempt. While I'm okay with a stalemate due to AA combat, I do feel like a killed defensive unit shouldn't be able to respawn in an advantageous position. As the population of the server decreased, this issue persisted.

I've not played iShot with an CA commander before, and his presence was a HUGE game changer. Instead of being a constant air to air battle, it became more cat and mouse as we advanced our avenger units south toward Beslan. Gordo and I were using the Avenger as a shield, and we'd draw the enemy A10 in and engage him. Using the Avenger as a front line defense, I was able to finish off the final group of units at Beslan. Gordo had directed roughly 4 avengers toward the area of Beslan. If I had known what units would spawn as the capture forces at Beslan, I probably would have tried to wait for the units Gordo commanded south. Unfortunately the time to station would have taken at least another 1-2 hours from their point of origin.

I don't necessarily have an issue with the amount of capture attempts; I just was frustrated when we'd work so hard only to a single adversarial unit respawn and annihilate our capture forces within minutes of the "beslan defeated" message.

The options in iShot are:
Move the Air Starts further away from Beslan (Red) and Min-Vody (Blue) -- question would be to move these a/c to the middle or further back away from the bases... or replace the Air Starts at the bases in favor of Warm Starts. Yahoo to the guy who deliberately crashed his plane so he could re-spawn right away with a full load - the guy thinks like I do cool

There is not a way AFAIK to modify a Client's starting type or spawn position in-game - or to turn off the Client slots based upon some condition. So I'm thinking that replace the Air's with Warm's is a good solution. What do you think?

Molasses - that's not a bad idea to have some Air Slots in the middle, so you could decide if you want to go defensive or offensive. If in the middle, what would you think if *BOTH* Red & Blue did Air Start spawns *in the same place*?

---

For the ground units - there are only three not-very-capable units that come into the bases to capture them - so, Yes, it is not very difficult to kill them and recapture the base. I can increase the number of capturing ground units and add more capable SAMs. I shy away from MANPADS because they are soo hard to locate, but they make a lot of sense in regards to effective air defense that can be carried into an area in vehicles and deployed at the destination.

Maybe adding some regular ground troops along with the vehicles at the captured bases would work - put them in the taxi areas - I wonder if they would fire on a Warm Start spawing A-10C?

---

iShot is a mission where I think the F10 View should be Allies Only. I don't know what F10 View My A/C is like... I don't want to turn F10 View off, but it is something we can experiment with.

I noticed that in the Local Options that the F5 View can be disabled, but that is not a Mission Option at this time.

---

The kill/capture/kill/recapture has to have a limit because once a group is dead (or deactivated) it cannot be reactivated, so another group #2 has to be set up, and another for when group #2 is dead, and so on... I'm not too interested in expanding that sequence; by that time in the mission, the mission should be close to its conclusion.

My upcoming three-day weekend is not until Jan 19-21. I have a late night work call tonight so may not be on, also a bit under the weather with a cold...

I believe they should be mid way between Beslan and Nalchik for the Red and half way between Min Vody and Mozdak for the Blue.

It is further from Mozdak to Min Vody than it is from Nalchik to Beslan by 25 miles or so however Mazdok is closer to Belsan than Nalchik is to Min Vody therefore it would be somewhat eaiser for Red to Defend and by contrast its more difficult for Blue to defend so by haveing the respawns in the between the bases it kind of evens things out a bit.

my opinion.

well I dont think anything on this is too pressing. Its still a blast to play no matter. so if you don't get to it for sometime its not going to ruin it for any of us... LOL

I'm also warm to the idea of having the mid-way warm starts... I'll submit more feedback once I get home and sleep a few hours. Just landed inVan and waiting for sweetest to pick me up at the ferry. She's awesome.

And so are you guys, by the way... this CA presence in missions is going to turn our world inside out and I LOVE IT!

We played back to school last night...I played red for the first time in a long time. First off when there was nobody in the server I had about 15 minutes to play... so I flew to Mozdok and took out most of the air defenses there. Later when I came back there were 3 blues assaulting Red forces in Beslan so I joined the other two Red A-10s helping at the front.

Again intersting strategy... I first focussed attention on Beslan airbase taking out airdefenses there when the CDUs and JDAMS and Mavs were gone I switched to A/A mode until Blooze cut me to pieces with 30 mm and Wheel started throwing winders at me. Then I would air start from the farp 40 miles away fully loaded and under went the same actions over again... not realistic but fun none the less.

Later after all the blues were irradicated I witness General Vas take off from the Farp in route to Beslan; there is also a flight of 4 or 5 Hinds that escort him but they don't take the same route as general which is odd. I made note of the farp and the Generals flight path for the future charge

I had fun last night, though I need to work on deploying the CBU's. I watched a few tutorials online and am going to practice again tonight. Also, I've been consiering picking up Flaming Cliffs 3, does this server support that?

Eh Rep... There are a few missions that use those aircraft- or at least there were at one point... however we were running into balance issues in the missions.

What are your issues with deploying CBUs? If it's just the issue of dropping on moving targets... we ALL wrestle with that especially given the slow descent of the parachutes. 1.1.1.1 CBUs drop a lot faster and were less trouble. We might also be able to help you with the HOF settings so that you can change the dispersal density of your skeets. In addition, optimum AIM altitude in terms of the munitions landing on your SPI seems to be above 15k- while what I find is anything below this the skeets tend to be deployed a bit too early and as a result seem to fall short. I "overshoot" when I'm below 15k... the further I am below, the more I aim past the target. That works pretty well.

On an unrelated note I'm taking a mission break on the server for the afternoon in case some folks want to go back into 1.1.1.1 and do some tanker / jtac training. I still like practicing on the tanker to keep the skills up for "when they fix that bug in the upcoming patch."

I throw quotes around it because I SURE HOPE IT GETS FIXED.

Anyway, it's just a short term training ground so people can go in and work on some skills outside of a mission environment but with other players. I think it's kind of fun to have a few people in there doing their own thing... We can change it up later- Obviously if the admins want / need to go in and change things up they're more than welcome to.

Crew: You talking about making the air starts warm mid-point starts? I think that would be awesome but I recall why you did it the way you did in the first place- to prevent the ditching of an aircraft just to restart with a full plane at the point you need to return to in order to rearm. I don't know how you can get around people doing that, unfortunately? Unless you make the midpoint ground starts cold starts instead of warm... suddenly things start to level out... maybe?

Been thinking more about you guys who moved the Avengers near Beslan in iShot - that is very cool stuff. Really a game changer - nothing will be the same anymore smile

Yes, we have some missions that use FC3 a/c. Just scratching the surface with these units though - the fast movers can tear the A-10Cs to shreds if not done right.

Eno - I'm thinking in iShot to replace the Air Starts at the two main bases with Warm Starts - so some lame-o (like me) can't simply crash and respawn with a full load to recapture the base. But then also add some Air Starts per Molasses' suggestion - further up the road nearer to each side's resupply bases. I need to experiment a bit but should be able to release something for Saturday...

This frackin cold of mine has me all loopy - I shouldn't be at work sicko but I have a deadline for something today. Hope to feel better soon - it's not the flu - I don't feel like that, but may be tomorrow it would be better if I stayed home.

Republic, we had 1.1.1.1 up for a little bit, my guess is you tried connecting to it via ip, but from v 1.2.2.
