Hi Guys...
Any chance you can post up what mods you use and recommend?

The most important mod IMHO is the MechJeb autopilot. I also have the CrewTank mod (which should be good for making pace stations and Mun-bases).

Mechjeb is very good.It helped me get to grips with the game. I slowly use it less and less as I get more confident.

I am only using stock parts and the only mod at the moment is mechjeb.
There is a host of powerful mods out there that do a range of wonderful things. I plan on trying some of those out and showcasing them here for you guys.

Looking forward to that, as one is badly needed. The KSP forum is a mess since their move, and keeping track of which mods work for which versions is difficult.

Damned robotics pack is pretty neat, lets you make robotic arms, legs, etc. In most cases you don't need it, but you can make some cool stuff. One kerbal was harmed while testing the "kerbalpault" kinetic launch system. There is also a fuel transfer mod. I haven't tried it yet, still building my gas station. But it looks pretty useful. My gas station is at the "evil one armed robot" phase of development, I plan to launch the heavy fuel tanks separately and see if I can clamp them on in space using the claw arm. This will probably end in a large explosion .

I hope somone makes a HARP cannon like they did in Orbiter. Would be nice just to launch a Kerbal straight into space without the hassle of making a spaceship.

Where do you get all the cool stuff to play with like Ion engines and more stuff like that. My son loves the stock stuff but he wants to build a lander for a long range mission.

THe upcoming version 0.18 will include an ION engine as stock. It will also include things like power consumption and the ability to run on or carry different fuels (resoureces). So simply waiting for the next update will give you an ION engine. However, try browsing through here http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forumdisplay.php/35-Addon-Releases-and-Projects-ShowcaseThere are a host of items that will keep you going. The plug-ins subsection is for powerful mods that add a lot extra to your game. Just make sure you download things that are compatible with the version you are running. One mod i have just downloaded and really enjoying is KETHANE (this is compatible with 0.17.1). It places pockets of a resource on planets called kethane which you need to detect, land on and then you can mine it and convert it to either RCS fuel or rocket fuel. The mod comes with a KETHANE detector, extractor (nicely animated mining probe), converter and fuel transfer part.

I am sure that I have done something wrong loading all these different ship parts and stuff because I now have items in my tabs for the markings and crew members that I don't remember adding to the folders.

I think some of the mods happen to add parts to those previously empty tab sections.
There's one mod that has a bunch of parts I love now to use. Forget which one its in but its for their ship called the thor lander. Basically it has a patty shaped tank with thruster enigines built to wrap around it. Good for VTOLs.
I think its worth downloading muiltiple mods because its added tons of rockets and engines and misc parts. I have radial mounted parachutes, three chute clusters and such.

I got the mechjeb pack and then downloaded a cool space shuttle, but it won't load saying I need a mechjeb mark 3 pod or something. Hmm. Can't seem to find where to get that.

Ships should only have one mechjeb. If your downloaded ship did not already come with a mechjeb item (you can test this by putting the downloaded ship on the launchpad and see if you get the mechjeb tab.), then just go to the VAB and add whichever mechjeb module you want on (they come in many shapes and sizes)

I guess I can try that. I was trying to load it in the ship builder area. That's where I get the error message.

Yeah, I still get the message saying it can't load because it's missing TD.MechJebCockpitMk3
I thought that would be included in the MechJeb package I installed, but I guess it isn't.

Coots just from what I know you have to get your kerbal dude right next to it and then click on the box. I haven't been successful in doing it but some others have posted videos that I can't seem to locate right now showing how it was done.
