Damn! Average 9 batteries against the SAC... Hell of a fight!lightsabers
To shoot down a heavy bomber (in my opinion) it is neccesary to kill all engines from one side or kill the crew, or damage the fuel tanks. That's why recomendations are to use 3 missiles salvo, which they didn't do everytime. Also the old SA-2 missiles warhead radiofuse "Shmel" is not so effective as 5E11 and 5X49 on V-755 and 759 missiles.
Anyway, NVA crews are good, they allmost took SR-71, which Quadafy PVO didn't (even with better version of SA-2). So they did their best.

Today (40 years later), Iranian Air Defense are waiting the USAF and IAF with the same export version of the SA-2, the SA-75MK Dvina (SA-2F) as was used in Vietnam during Linebacker-II...

I don't think that's correct, nor do I think that an SPJ will just deny range. These jammers are usually track-breakers, meaning they will deny range and angles simultaneously. That may not be very effective against S-300 (Since it is PESA, it probably is not as sensitive to side-lobe jamming as some other radars), but there are always other techniques ... some of which we know (range-gate pull-off, jitter) and probably a bunch we do not.

I still think that sending in F-117A above Belgrade alone, without any support (CAP/ECM/Weasel) was over optimistic, or suicidal.

I think it is more like accident. This is not the first time that something like this has happened. F-15E's have been shot down by SA-2's because EW support was removed - the aircraft for some reason, mechanical failure or being chased off by a fighter or other issue - was not on station.

hi Hpasp
Is it possible to make SAM working on the network? I mean one player searching target and second player after first one acquired target launch the missle.

There Iraqies take their high ranked prissoner - Col. David W. Eberly. If I remember it right, some MiG-25 chased the EW aircrafts (EF-111's) and the strike force comes "naked". Mission was a failure, and think another "Eagle" was shot down too.

In the next SAMSIM version, you will have the opportunity to face the SR-71 with the S-75M Volhov (SA-2E), above Tripoli, and try your sharpened - advanced skills, for a hit, that never happened in real life.

Now seriouse... Is SR-71 ever crossed the killzone of the SA-5? You mentioned that they didn't, right?

You weapon is what "your" leader bought...
... I try to simulate this situation as realistically, as possible, using several sources from both side.

I highly doubt that 10000-element X-band phased array will be suseptible to sidelobe jamming at all.

By the way, does anyone knows what is the output power of 30N6's transmitter? Looks like this data is still classified, I was unable to find it. Only for S-300V's 9S32 radar data is available, but from highly unreliable source. It states an average power of only 13 kilowatts and peak - of just 150. With that, it won't be able to track stealthy targets at distances beyond 25-30 km at best, so I highly doubt it.

Wow, they bought a lot of hardware... 39 Volhovs, 44 Pechoras, 8 S-200, 27 P-14 and Oborona-14 radars, 3 ASURK-1ME, two Senezh-E and 3 Nizina-U IADS. So they did had an IADS. Those tiny pencil markings state that Nizina-U were supplied from 1988, while Senezh-E was supplied in 1985-86. I suppose they were not ready for operation during 1986 events, cause they could seriously change the results, especially during air raid on Benghazi. Any info about it?

Peak power is just one part of the equation...
... emitted beam width is the other important factor.

I just found this article about it...
http://www.eisc.com.cn/webdata/Data.asp?nRecno=49462&Recno=296698
... it mentions 75kW.

I also found 100kW for the Patriot's MPQ-53, so it is in the same ballpark.

The IADS for Benghazi and Surt were under fielding, while the IADS of Tripoli was already fielded.

DTIG credits the early Flap-Lid with 130kW (probably peak), but while its frequency band info looks OK, the frequencies it mentions are not consistent with either the identified band or with what is typically used in that type of radar, so...

And also do not forget another two as the same important factors - receiver sensitivity and its noise figure thumbsup
