Is it just me, or is the latest firefox a steaming pile? I've had lots of problems with pages that won't load and have to be refreshed, etc. Seems like each new version is worse than the last...Using Chrome currently and it's only moderately better.

On a somewhat related note, what's up with Firefox's high-speed release cycle over the last year? I switched to Google Chrome back before the summer because I was fed up with how frequently new versions of Firefox were coming out and forcing me to update. That was back when they were switching from 4.0 to 5.0 after a short couple of months (maybe weeks?)

Now they're up to 8.0? Sheesh.

I've not noticed any problems with 8.0.
I tried Chrome very recently,it lasted about 5 minutes before it was consigned to the bin.

Firefox 5 was released mid-end june. Chrome was on 12 then. FF is now on 8, Chrome on 15.

That would suggest that Chrome updates in the background, or are you still on 12 Fatty?

I'll try a reinstall without all the plug in's and see what happens. I suspect all my bookmarks are gone, though...I don't know if it backed them up before hand, since I was really POed...

I think Chrome can do silent updates without user action.

I hear that Mozilla has mentioned consideration of a "Long Term Service" build that would get updates every 9 months or so. If that project ever sees daylight, I'll be using whatever LTS build of SeaMonkey is based there.

I'm just about sick of Firefox. Performance is just terrible particularly since v8 dropped. The only thing keeping me from moving to Chrome full time is its lack of a bookmark panel.

Apparently, I don't push Firefox enough to see the "bad stuff". I have a slow internet connection; so, for example, I wait momentarily for pages no matter what. Don't use it for critical business applications.

I let it update whenever it pleases. It keeps all my old addons, settings, bookmarks intact. Easy to backup. Painless. Controls and features I like (eye of beholder).

Overall, I notice minor improvements with the major (whole number) updates. Supposedly uses less system resources now -- but, my system has so many resources it doesn't matter.

I've tried others, but Firefox and Thunderbird are the ones I prefer -- though I could get used to two or three of the competitors.

Ahh it's not just me then. Damn thing freezes up occasionally. Annoying as hell.

Ah, but it very much matters for FF, on my system at least. Once it goes above about 700MB of memory usage it will start to stutter randomly when scrolling a page, typing, etc, or will freeze up for 3-5 seconds when switching tabs. I have 5 pinned "App Tabs", and with those,FF is already using close to 500MB of memory when I first start it. So it takes very little usage to push it into the terrible performance area.

In the past I've seen Mozilla try to blame performance problems on people running too many addons... Well, I'm already running the bare minimum number of addons for an acceptable experience (Adblock, LastPass, Xmarks and TabMix Plus), and I still have major performance issues.

I do Addblock Plus, NoScript, Downloadhelper, Reminderfox. Sometimes I have 12 to 18 tabs open. Again maybe easy stuff.

SVCHost is using over 200MB total -- whatever that is. I notice FF.exe is using about 170MB on my system. Steam is using 41MB and Sidebar is using 25MB. Those are the big ones.

Don't really follow memory usage. So, don't know if any of that is unusual.

For the record there is now a new official version of Flash available and it is now compatible with 64 bit browsers with Windows!

It's a "beta" not yet supported version but it is 64 bit and I've been using it just find with no issues.

I started beta testing Chrome before it was released, and sadly havent touched Firefox Since.

prior to that I swore by firefox, as does my brother.

I dont know if i even want to update the one I have.

Back testing 8.0 with just a few plug ins. I got tired of Chrome puking when you try to open multiple tabs. I get really tired of seeing the OOPS Chrome cannot bla, bla, bla...

I hardly ever get a problem with Chrome. If i do I just assume it's my connection. FF just seems to be one step behind.

It's fast, I'll give it that. Especially if it's something it's loaded before. But it doesn't handle opening multiple tabs well and it will loose connection at the drop of a hat. Back to FF with few plugins.

I have those problems all the time with FF. Never (so far) with Chrome.

Been a Firefox faithful for years but I've given up on v8. Went Chrome and at least here it is hugely faster and more stable. I hope the Mozilla group can get FF sorted out.

Switched to Chrome full time a few days ago. If only they'd make Xmarks and Lastpass extensions for Opera, I'd happily go back to it.
