So much for abandoning development, lol. Lest we forget: There is no BoB "game" inside COD. There is zero strategy content. As such it cannot hold a candle to Rowan's BoB effort ten years after the fact.

Also this topic is posted in the wrong area. Should be in Extended. Please post only the following topics in this forum:
- Actual gameplay in Cliffs of Dover - Making 3rd party content for Cliffs of Dover - How to configure settings for Cliffs of Dover - Specific bugs in Cliffs of Dover - Subjective gameplay experiences in Cliffs of Dover ("my experience is...") - WWII aviation history - WWII aircraft
I agree Foucault. I am puzzled why this thread is not in the extended discussions forum.

Thanks Luthier things are looking better. The terrain is certainly taken on a more realistic look. If your ever able model the hedgerows in amongst the trees it will look even better. There is still alot of work to be done and it certainly won't be done fast enough for some. I'm sure you'll get quite used to the "COD is Dead" anthem until the sim is done. I have been looking through the forums to see who started the "Cod is Dead" slogan.. Who was it? I am reminded of Will Smith's line in the movie "Men in Black": "Don't start nothin'..Won't be nothin'!" Perhaps CoD spokesmen/apologists also ought to crow that "anthem" more softly.

Dont go counting chickens yet, bud.
BTW, this is all belongs in the Extended, ever since Avimimus gave the green light to the pro- mud-slingers to get stuck in to us whiners. Ho hum.
Let's just see, shall we?
But another good thing - it looks like Luthier has been listening a bit more intently, and answering more seriously. Another 'good thang'.

Yes, lets not go counting those chickens quite yet. 10+ years of support isn't long enough. I'd say we wait for 20 before we all take off the tin foil hats. lol

Maybe in 20 years the developers will be able to inject as much "game" into COD as existed in Rowan's BoB of ten years ago. More likely COD will simply fade into obscurity as did Pacific Fighters. The developers will simply announce a successor product to deflect attention from their BoB "sim" that never was.

Lets hope not.
One of the biggest draws to the IL2 series (which funny enough is probably why it's the most popular and long lasting sim of all time) happens to be that the "game" part happens in the cockpit only. If you need to see medals on your screen or a a fancy piece of paper that pats you on the back saying "good job" after you've finished your flight, you should probably look elsewhere. It will never happen with IL2.
And in single player, in FPS games, you used to be able to skip through all the retarded animations they try to do for the kiddies. If I see that sort of thing in a flight sim, I'll find the files and delete them.
I'd say the only thing in obscurity is the other people that tried to produce WWII flight sims besides OM. And there's a good reason why. Logic is such a neat thing.

Well said Bliss. The IL2 series is never going to be Rowan's BoB or anything close to it and vice versa. If that is what some people are looking for or expecting, look elsewhere because it ain't happening. Two different philosophies behind the development of these two sims, and that difference is the very reason people are attracted to either one. The same reason the DCS series is never going to match the Falcon 4 campaign, and of course Falcon 4 can never match the fidelity of the DCS series. But both are awesome in their own way.

So SOW: BoB, now COD was never hyped or intended to be a BoB "sim". It was offered as a BoB era planeset and geography technical demonstration. Further we should never expect the developer to offer products that contain a strategic level of gameplay. Never then expect products from this developer of a "gameplay" depth equivalent to Rowan's Mig Alley or BoB. I appreciate the reality check.

Yes, a BoB "sim" is exactly what it is. And the developers offer tools to make any sort of strategic level of gameplay imaginable. (again one of the greatest selling points) I take it you are another person that doesn't own the old IL2 or the new one? (otherwise you would know this) Maybe you should do a bit of research next time. Unlike Rowan's BoB that died after 1 patch, (what did it last? 6 months?) the IL2 series will be around (already 10 years), I'll go out on a limb and say another 10 is likely, at the very least. And you're welcome

I do not see how one can credibly back track. Tools to create a strategic gameplay level? What i see is individuals who could care less about a "strategic" gameplay level. There is a concern for online gameplay only. For anyone looking for an offline content equivalent to what was available in Rowan sims of a decade ago: go fish.

Rowan's BoB died after one patch? Well it's ghost lives on and COD developers can only envy the ghost's AI quality.

One can credibly back track easily. There was one patch released for Rowan's BoB before it completely died. What a huge success! lol
About strategic gameplay, you clearly don't know much about the IL2 series. There are numerous offline and online dynamic campaigns that have been user created already and include "strategic gameplay". I suggest checking out the 1C forums. They are available for download. M4T has 100's of them for the old sim as well. And yes, online is great and given as much work or more as SP. It's as if the last 10 years of IL2 have gone completely over your head.
Again, serious question. Do you own IL2 or IL2COD? I can only suggest, again, doing a bit of research before posting again. It seems as if you don't really know much about the title at all.

Notice how condescension and veiled insults surface when certain individuals feel they have lost control of a discussion. I have seen this turn of events so many times in the forum I can easily predict when the individual is about to blow. That is why this topic should long ago have been transfered to Extended Discussions.

I notice no such attacks or someone about to blow. I'm just stating the obvious, and it becomes abundantly clear when you can't disagree with a single point I've said or answer any questions I've asked you.
What I do notice is when certain people are called out on false information they say, instead of being able to answer obvious questions or admit when they are wrong, they generally try to use misdirection to turn try to rub the embarrassment off their own back. Sadly it's quite obvious when the same individuals continue to do so.

I'm quite mystified by all this. Not only does this thread start with a quote from me, but I apparently green lighted something.
I have no recollection of this.
But clearly, I must not be up to any good? I'll watch myself in the future.
Just as I'm watching all of you...

(remember guys, when they had squadrons repeatedly probing the edges of East German airspace - only to be called off just before they reached the line during '62 it was, well, very stupid...). Playing chicken, with any kind of line usually is.
So, if you don't want to be seen as "stupid" keep the gloves on and obey the forum agreement.
However, if you want to play line the chickens - I have no comment whatsoever.

To best of my understanding there is no forum requirement that I prove ownership of Il2 or other game before posting a comment or opinion.

Very true. I already knew the answer. (again quite obvious by your lack of knowledge on the subject) Thanks for answering
