I think we all know that it's now time to decide one of the most important things we have to agree on regarding IL2 Sturmovik - Cliffs of Dover:

Is it CoD or CloD?

Do people think that 'CoD' is ambiguous with Call of Duty or with the fish? Is there an intersection of players that do all three and are confused?

Do people know that 'clod' (as I've used it in real-life) refers to a 'lump of earth', i.e. a clod of soil.

What say you?

Clod is also a another word for a stupid person

Personally I think it won't be long before its once again called just plain old il2, so I voted for CloD for convenience... its not like were going to be calling the series always after the latest release or next it will be known as BoM (Battle over Moscow).

That's true, I guess if the acronym can multi-purpose in intent then there's that too

Damn I'm always left out of the loop.

If I were the developers I'd ditch the name and retool this beast.

The acronyms are unfortunate.

Actually SoW sounded better, but even with that it was easy to see that the developers were having a hard time deciding.

It's CloD-tastic!

CoD is already used for Call of Duty, a game that was relesed in 2003, while the next IL-2 was just a twinkle in Oleg's eye. In fact if you google CoD the first hit is the CallofDuty website, I would have put money on it being about fish.

Even after the first five pages I still hadn't seen CoD used in reference to Cliffs of Dover. It's too late, in our little niche Cliffs of Dover will forever be known as CloD, a very apt and fitting TLA if ever there was one. Your little poll will not change that.

Some people use CloD as an insult it seems to me, whereas CoD is the neutral expression for the sim. So, I guess it depends on whether you are one of those who really don't like it (quite a few in this forum, for some reason they really want to spend a lot of time discussing a piece of software they don't like). If you really don't like it, you'd probably gravitate towards CloD. I prefer to just use the neutral name for the sim.

BTW, I think 1C/Ubi have been not very clever about the whole naming business. SoW is stupid: *oink, oink*. CoD is a fish and ANOTHER piece of software as well, though I don't think the "confusion" argument matters, because they're very different games. The "Il-2" bit was a useless attempt of getting some name recognition. It might get that, but it creates confusion as well. And the good old Ilyushin is nowhere to be seen in CoD anyway...

Anyway, CoD it is for me. Or Il-2 CoD, as opposed to Il-2 Classic (=a real classic, I think we can all agree).

The name CoD or CloD doesn't make sense.It will make even less sense when the next installment is released (Battle For Moscow?) especially if that installs over CoD/CloD like previous il2 series.
Then WTF will we call it?
Storm of War was a much better name,that could have covered the whole series for many years to come.The current name has no continuity to it.

I'm frightened to hear what the next name will be.

Clod , i like Clod. Cod is just call of duty, its ingrained in my gaminginess, sounds like a ripoff and may confuse the younger Cod players to *accidentally* buy it.Storm of War was a bit meh, with Sow being the obvious shortening it just sounds silly.Clod sounds warm and a bit dumpy,sorta like a farmers helper who doesn't do every job right but she cooks nice bacon.

BoB was already taken so the easy one was out the window, what about fFttuk ? from France to the UK .

IL2 SoW was good, as I liked pronouncing it as 'ill sow', a la sick female pig.

CloD I am warming to, and will abide by this binding democratic vote (a popularist at heart!) and even (especially?) if it is meant as an insult we can use it in a self-effacing ghetto-like way. Yo.
