I just got back in town so my first flight was last night, and I'm still learning the control mapping. . Is there any way to use my hat switch to zoom the view. I didn't have a lot of time to play, but I couldn't figure it out. I set the hat to have the 3 fovs on it, but I'd like a real variable zoom. Anyone know if that's possible?

I have a more variable zoom than the 3 key press stages because of using TrackIR. If I lean right in I can bump my head on my monitor too (note to self: probably needs adjustments)
It might be possible to bind something on the 'Axis' set of controls, i.e. a 'z' in/out axis, although don't know if a hat switch could do this.

Thanks. yeah, i'll try to some more key binding tonight. I also use TIR also but when leaning in to zoom, I often lose the crosshair, and i don't like hitting shift f1 because of the limited panning you can do. Oh well, either way I can deal with. I'll just have to get used to it again.

Three FoV's is all you get, unfortunately. It annoys me a lot that you cannot set just TWO buttons to toggle backwards and forwards between the three Fields of View. It was possible in Il-2 Classic, but in CoD you only get to set each FoV to a button. That's what I think, anyway, but if anyone finds a way of just zooming in and pout between the three views I'd be happy to know!

Ah, just discovered that you can set a button to "adjust field of view": when you hold it down you can smoothly zoom in and out by moving your mouse backwards and forwards. Very nice, actually.

Better explained by tf_neuro in the banana forum: OK, I know that this suggestion has already been posted, I'm just trying to make it easier to set up with a step-by-step instruction set:
- Go to your controls page, Keys tab, Camera Section - One of the first key bindings from the top is called 'Adjust FoV' or something like that. By default it's bound to 'mouse5', whatever that might be... - Assign a different key to 'Adjust FoV' (I use Q because I never used it for anything else...) - Save your settings, start a flight. - Now hold down your 'Adjust FoV' key (Q, in my case), and at the same time move the mouse up and down to incrementally adjust FoV (no need to hold any mouse key down, just hold your keyboard key and move the mouse)
[Assigning mouseUP and mouseDOWN to keys is unnecessary IMO. One key for Adjust FoV + Moving the mouse up/down does the trick pretty well]

Guys, please read again the link I gave you. Following the instructions in there, and using that tool, you can have zoom + and zoom - assigned to two of your IL2 CoD (joystick if you want to, as I did) keys.
What you need to do is this: a) assign to two of your IL2CoD (joystick) keys the same action: hold to adjust FoV action (let's say JoyButton5 and JoyButton6). b) in the JoyToKey tool, assign to the same (joystick) keys above the mouse x+ (JoyButton5) and mouse x- (JoyButton6) actions c) start JoyToKey tool, and start IL2CoD, enter a mission d) now, when holding JoyButton5 it will trigger Hold to Adjust PoV AND mouse x+ actions, increasing the FoV as long as you hold it, and when holding JoyButton6 it will trigger Hold to Adjust PoV AND mouse x- actions, decreasing the FoV as long as you hold it
it might be that the x- is for increasing and x+ for decreasing, or it might be the mouse y axis, I don't remember exactly (I need to look up in my settings)
This way, you'll have seemlessly modivying your zoom bound to two of your keys, WITHOUT having to tinker with the mouse to obtain the effect.

thanks tiamat. I'll look into that. I tried a bunch a key mapping last night and had no luck. I'll have to try that tool. Honestly, I got kind of used to the 3 views, and then leaning in more smoothly to keep the crosshair lined up. Still, zoom on my joy stick would be great.
Next, i need some cem help so i can get online. I got online a bit last night, but it took me about 20 minutes just to figure out how to select a team and pick a air field. They need better instruction on that.
BTW. any good tutorials on cem out there? I haven't really looked yet.

As mentioned, if one has a 5 button mouse -- like Razer -- zoom by holding key while moving mouse. Its the leftmost key on the left side of my Razer.
As mentioned, zoom is easy to program in the "controls" section of "options".
Zoom view is a very nice feature to have so conveniently built in. In general, the CoD control programming options are excellent and easy.

zoom is not an issue with the mouse. It's mapping it to a joystick that's a problem.

just set it up the way I've described it, and you'll have it bound on your joystick keys and working 100% and without any problems.

Thanks tiamat! - Just annoying that one has to have a 3rd party program running... I hope it will appear in CoD itself. Just a zoom in and a zoom out function, shouldn't be so hard.

QFT, Sure seems simple enough to me. I haven't had a chance to set it up like that yet, but i've tried every other key mapping i could find and no go. I'll be home this weekend and try it out if i get a chance. Over all though, I've enjoyed the game so far. It seems to run pretty well on my pc, even on higher settings, and with a 1080p res. Mirrors are a killer though. Everyone should stay away from those.

Joy to key is for assigning virtual joysticks, right? So if i have a virtual or real HID device i can control the views by that? For example, if had a second joystick could i use it for view panning? I'm asking because a buddy of mine has been thinking of building a trackIR alternative. It will probably be smaller than the trackclip pro, cost about 50 euros to make (the cost of the items from an electronics store), probably be more accurate than other free head tracking solutions and it will also not violate any copyrights at all, as long as it's possible to use any HID device for view control. So, can it be done?

Probable PPJoy to this (head track) better, but JoyToKey can simulate mouse movement, so suitable to control camera.

Thanks Sokol, will probably go ahead and try it out at some point.
We're thinking of buying an integrated circuit board with a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer (this gives full 6DOF control), couple it to a microcontroller and use a USB connection to power it and parse the data. Then my buddy will slap something up in C++ so that we can have adjustable sensitivity curves and pause/center functions, then use PPJoy or JoyToKey to transfer these inputs in game.
Some of that stuff is very accurate and used in radio controlled helicopters, some people are even making self-made UAVs with autopilots using these boards, so i guess it should be accurate enough for head-tracking.
A combined board with analog outputs, 300 degree per second sensitivity for the gyro and +/- 3G for the accelerometer is about $50-$60 so it's an interesting solution.
Advantages: You don't need a camera to track the IR "dots" and all the problems that come with it (light conditions, camera field of view, sensitivity changes depending on how far you sit from it), plus it's very accurate.
Disadvantages: You will need to have it plugged in to parse the data, while a camera with IR lights and reflectors doesn't need a cable (it still needs a cable if you are using emitters on your headphones though, like with trackclip pro, so i guess it evens out).
