Erm... I'm stuck right at the beginning. I can't find a manual and don't know how to talk to Joker in the command deck of the stricken spaceship. Anyone help...
I'm sooo embarrased!!

As far as I know all you have to do is walk past the energy barrier of the cockpit and it will then automatically switch to a cutscene.

and if it's not a cut scene, if you stand next to him and look at him, you should get a dialog box... great great game... looking to play through it again right before the 3rd is released.

I just bought both 1 and 2 on steam. I'll let you know how to get past that part in about a month.

OP: You should be, all you have to do is walk,if for some reason that fail to trigger the cutscene, walk to joker right,a dialogue box will pop up, if you can get the dlc ( i think its included now) get kasumi straight away, her loyal mission is boring but she is the assassin creed of mass effect, you can\t got wrong with her on the team.

The DLC you should really get is The Shadow Broker. Quite the best DLC for the game, and you can continue the relationshop with Liara (if you have one with her from ME1 of course).

(I have no clue what's going on!) Did you play the first Mass Effect? I hope so.

Right, like you really need to play Doom 1 to play Doom 2 and both before you play Doom 3!

Actually i tried to play the first one, didn't like the game mechanics so quit a few hours in, but the 2nd one was fantastic, and looking forward to the 3rd one. Ya, I miss some of the story by skipping the first, but hated that combat.

No need to play ME1 to appreciate ME2. I really like the fact that I went through ME2 with just an assualt rifle, a sniper rifle, and an armor outfit... really didn't like comparing armor and weapons stats in ME1. The part I hated about ME2 was the stupid ammo clip concept especially since the fluff didn't fit how it worked in-game. And hated the love interest in ME2, liked ME1 lady better.
Can't wait for ME3 though!

also i dont know about you guys but did you all had weapons in the 300 ranger by the middle of me1 ? i had and made the game so stupidly easy, and it wasnt contract it was enemy weapon found on the mission, both ashley and i had 310 rifles and we just mowed enemies, i would change to shotgun to make it fair, but it was almost always on shot one kill, one thing i did like was the weapons specs mods, but the way i see,its coming back useless and gimicly in me3

Seems like you prefer more of a first person shooter style of combat than RPG.

The combat in ME2 was better, but fighting is only half of the game. I hope ME3 will take the good parts from ME1 and 2.

I had been expecting KOTOR-style combat, so what ME1 had surprised me. ME2 was indeed more shooter, but I would've preferred it be FPS instead of crappy third person. That works for Tomb Raider, Thief, Splinter Cell-types, but not what you were doing in ME2. It was more like Deus Ex (which was marketed as an FPS with a bit of RPG, but really is very much like ME2 aside from the lack of party dynamic) so they should've given a FPS view. Of course, apparently on a console you MUST be in third person?? The Jedi Master

I hope ME3 will take the good parts from ME1 and 2. I remember reading some stuff online about how EA wanted ME 3 to have an even "broader" appeal so that worries me.

ME1 was not simply a game but an experience. I LOVED it. I did not play it until a couple months after 2 was released so, as soon as I finished 1 I started playing 2 and they were so different control/mechanics wise that I found it irritating. I put it down and am going to pick it up again soon.

Of course, apparently on a console you MUST be in third person?? The Jedi Master Don't laugh, but this thought just struck me: AimAssist on a gamepad is less noticeable in third person view compared to looking trough iron sights. Might well explain why so many console titles went shoulder view.

There was this whole "what's going on?" effect in ME1 and the story was slowly told... very nice.
ME2 is simply assembling your troops and doing side quests until you trigger the final story. After ME2, I was "meh!" even with all the nice graphics and such.
