Well, who would have thought that the game is real after all?

Hello Gents!

On April 1 2011 we announced your new dream flight simulation game. Later we told you it was an April fool. As you can see now - that became a joke too.

Of course we understood it was a bit risky to play this joke, but as we were not yet able to officially announce the game at the time, we decided to use the date to open the curtains a little on what we had secretly been working on for the last two years. Initially we were going to announce the game with different name, but lots of gamers found this name brilliant, so we decided to keep it.

The really good news is that the game is real, that we are really bringing this totally new flight simulation game experience to flyers on MAC and PC. We re going to announce the game again in much greater detail next week.

I won't deny this whole thing has been a bit confusing, but... well...

At least we know what's going on now and the news is good. It's bloody marvellous actually!

Is this different from the World of Warplanes MMO? Interesting to see two similar games being made if it is different.

I would have preferred a normal light flight sim/game or a full flight sim over an MMO though. MMOs don't interest me at all. And I am guessing there will be no single player or mission editor?

HI Flogger,

Yes it's kind of interesting that two different companies are working on what seems to be a similar thing. However I believe World of Planes will be more interesting since I'm really sure it will offer a SP expansion plus Mission Editor, or a standalone SP version based on the same engine.

Quoting from another reply to a similar question I gave on another forum:

Quote:
I think you're right, World of Planes is headed to us as an Online game, an MMO. However I'm very sure there will be either a separate game based on the same engine with Single Player content plus a full Mission editor, or this will become available as an extension pack to World of Planes. All this is being created in parallel development of the console game Birds of Steel, a prototype of the Mission Editor has already been made available Apache: Air Assault.

The only thing to be worried about might be that the Single Player content may turn out too 'Arcadey' for serious simmers, as was often critizised for WOP. If the game is however otherwise convincing (FM/DM/graphics/maps/...) there's a very good chance that a healthy mission builder scene will spring up which will supply missions for every flavor. I think that's what we're going to see, and I look forward to thisl.

Next week we're expecting some fresh infos on World of Planes from the devs.

Thanks for the reply. I am interested in a strong SP aspect as well as mission editor. MP against AI or PvP is very important to me as well. I am guessing since this is an MMO, we will have to pay a monthly fee?

If what was announced for Birds of Steel (Console game) is any indication, we can expect MP Coop against AI, historic mission as well as dynamic generic missions. As to the business model this hasn't been yet announced. Perhaps we may expect some news on that this week.

This looks very promising. Getting excited about the possibilities for SP mode, which is my niche, since I don't have the connection speeds to play much online.
