Hi Chaps,

I am struggling. All of my controls seem to have a 0,5sec delay. When I move the stick or the pedal, I push a button on the stick or on the keyboard, or when I move my head with the trackir on, the game reacts with a ca. 0,5sec delay. This makes the game totally unplayable. I have this since the game is out and none of the patches helped.

I have a Cougar and the CH pedal and a trackIR4 (if it matters cos there is delay even on the keyboard and mouse actions)

Have you experienced anything like this? Is there any solution?

thank you

Yeah I have the same problem and pretty much everyone I fly with has it, too. It's easy to notice just by moving the mouse in-game and observing the lag. The same problem affects all the controls, making the game a pain to fly. There was some improvement after some of the early patches, but it's still unbearable and for me by far the biggest issue in the game.

The control lag seems to be at least to an extent related to framerate, so maybe things will be easier for you if you lower details to get the FPS very high. You can also disable vsync and lower pre-rendered frames to 0 in your video card control panel, but at least in my case all those factors are meaningless compared to the huge lag induced by the game itself.

I haven't noticed it so much with TIR or my general controls, but the slight input delay on my guns firing is absolutely infuriating. It gives a huge disconnect between your actions and the pilots and makes snap shots incredibly difficult. If I have other joystick input lag, I haven't noticed much, but the guns drive me nuts.

Never had anything resembling that and it is the first time I hear the problem mentioned here on the forums (plenty of other issues mentioned, but not this one!). Wonder whether it affects many...

Obviously the most frustrating delay is the gun's. It perfectly ruins the aiming. But the flight controls are also very annoying. First i thought that it is only some strange presentation of the ac's inertia, but when i looked at the virtual control column i could see that it moves with a delay compared to my joystick.

Anyway reducing the frame buffer is a good point, I would give it a try. Where should i adjust it? Is it some game setting in conf.ini, or is it a general vidcard setting?

The frame buffer adjustments are in the video card driver.

As I said, it's quite easy to notice if you have this lag; just move the mouse around while in cockpit and if it feels sluggish, it's likely that all of your controls are the same. Another good way is to fire the guns and see how long it takes them to respond, pressing the zoom is a good way to test for lag as well. If you haven't played 1946 for a while, give it a shot and see if it feels extremely "sharp" in all controls.

There have been threads on the subject in the banana forums, one of them had a poll on the problematic system specs. I've tried the game on two computers, both have pretty bad lag (both are intel / nvidia / win764, though) and two out of three online buddies I've told how to look for symptomns have it, the third one is inconclusive. The lag may not be immediately obvious if you don't know what you're looking for, one of my mates said he didn't have any problems, just trouble hitting things until I told him to test how long it takes for his guns to fire when he pulls the trigger.

I would be very, very, very interested in finding out how widespread this problem actually is and especially how to get rid of it.

PS. Freycinet, I recently saw this really nice vid: http://www.youtube.com/user/wwwDOTdalsgaardDOTeu#p/c/981CBC682E928D2A If I'm correct it was made by you? The funny thing is that when I watched you shoot at one of the bombers (at about 9 minutes mark) I thought it looked a lot like my own attempts; the lag generates oscillations when trying to make small, quick corrections. It would be interesting to know if your mouse is completely crisp in cockpit (as in you wouldn't mind going to the StarCraft world championship with the setup) and if your bullets leave the barrels of your guns at the exact moment you squeeze the trigger? If they do, would you mind sharing your setup details?

Based on my experience working on BOBII for the last 6 years and also the fact that alot (or most including me) of players do not have this delay problem, the problem is caused by processing delay (processor get delayed caused by low FPS (over worked processor). Try to get your FPS increased by trading eye candy for speed to at least the mid-40's and try to get you minimun FPS above the high 20's.

Salute! MM we are back at long last Smile2

The latest version seems very good. So far I've only taken off and landed the Spit1a but I am looking forward to seeing you swooping in your E4

Accumulated score brought forward from EAW is:- 1421 Ming-kills to MesserMaister, with one lucky Messermaister-kill to Ming. Kill recorded after 35 minutes, hmm I must have had a drop tank

BD come in Smile2

I haven't had any issues with my hotas but i have just put together a freetrack setup and i seem to get a small delay on that as well. Probably not quite 0.5 secs though, I would welcome any input from anyone who has had similar issues with freetrack or trackir. The last flightsims i played were knights of the sky, and F16 fighting falcon(iirc), so i have no experience with headtracking gear other than that which i have gained with my homemade setup. I used a ps3 eyetoy@ 30 fps and the default profile.

Hey Minger old m8!

Ooouu we had bloody good times with the EAW! Nothing was soo much fun like a team mayhem against you old EAF boys, especially if "Dolfo" or "Patafin" was involved on my side as well:)

If this game will ever work as it should, I will love to shoot you or get shot by you again! And don`t worry with the age I lost my precausion, so sometimes you can find me below 6000m wink

Cheers to BD, Oxoo, and all the old blokes!

S!

I have noticed no delay while doing those movies. There was some pilot induced oscillation, but that is purely my fault. I don't know about Starcraft, but I would call the gun firing "immediate".

Do you get it in all areas of the map? I and a good few others have noticed a general fps slowdown near Calais, it seems it is due to some bad modelling of the harbour area...

So very odd that I for one never read about a delay, and I read the Clod forums quite a bit; all of a sudden there is a whole bunch of people who have that problem with no new patch or anything...Just odd...

I tried the followings:
(I tested everything over the channel, with my single ac in the air.)

1.
set pre rendered frames to 0.
Result: same delay

2.
Set every video setting, resolution to minimum
Result: A bit better, but still there is delay

It means that I had the same amount of frame delay, only it seemed to be a shorter time, cos the FPS was higher.

Strange....

At least I've had the problem from the beginning, it's not a result of any of the patches for me. I also think that the delay might have something to do with the framerates, but if that's the case, pretty much everyone is guaranteed to be suffering from it; my framerates aren't stellar, but they are quite acceptable. Also, if rendering slows down control input (and physics etc.?) it sounds like an issue with prioritization in the code and shouldn't happen. At least for me, iCoD is the only sim that suffers from this issue so badly.

Well my situation is exatly the same. I have this problem since the first time. I put the game on the shelf, becouse I thought this issue will be fixed soon. Well it hasn`t been fixed.

Maybe more people have it than we know. Only they haven`t noticed yet, or their delay is very short. Maybe it is only a minor problem and effects only a few users with a certain hw combo.
Anyway, It would be interesting if some people could test the followings:

-Press the mg trigger and check when the gun starts to fire
-Look at the virtual control stick. Make a sudden move with your joystick and check that the virtual is in perfect sincron.
-Click onto an instrument in the cockpit by mouse and check if the clicking sound has a delay or not.

Tried the three tests and found no noticeable delay. Mouse traverses the monitor with no appreciable lag, either. I'm not technically savvy enough to make any suggestions. For others here that are, it may be helpful to post your system including peripherals as a place to start.

I appreciate your frustration. This would be a dealbreaker for anyone. Hopefully the fix will be found soon and will be straightforward. Keep us posted of any developments on this.

I don't get this issue, but I could understand how frustrating it would be.

Only suggestion I can think of would be something related to the odd screen rendering modes they've cooked up.

If you are patched up to the latest, does it make any impact on control lag to run between 'windowed', 'pseudo' and 'full screen'? I'm not sure what to suggest, but that might be worth a shot?

Edit: Just thought of something else to try. How about turning off any Steam overlay - that often causes games issues that don't expect it?

Steam / Library / IL2CoD / Properties (right mouse button) / General / 'Enable Steam Community In-Game.' tick to off.

I turned the Steam community off pretty much as the first step when I got the game. I've always run full screen, might be interesting to try windowed and pseudo-full just to see if it has any effect.

Anyway, I tested with all graphics to zero and low resolution and got a pretty good result. As long as I keep the FPS above 80 or so, preferrably 100+ I get little lag. Recognizing the planes got a bit challenging at that point and of course the game didn't look like much and I only tested a small skirmish above sea, I'm unlikely to attain that kind of performance over land.

However, that was exactly the kind of result I really didn't want to see. Why would rendering speed have an effect on input? Does this mean that when framerate drops to below spectacular levels, physics and other important calculations go down the toilet as well? In RoF it does, but that happens when the CPU is completely clogged and I wasn't anywhere near that in my tests. Amyway, iCoD is the only sim that does this for me and I know for a fact that Warthog, Black Shark, Flaming Cliffs and RoF don't run at constant 100fps.

Also, this would suggest that pretty much everyone will have input lag when framerates drop - which is quite often. I'm not sure this is the case, have you guys tested if you get lag with frames at about 15-30fps? I think there must be something else involved, but I must admit the result I got from my tests isn't at all what I wanted to see based on what little I know about game engines. I really hope it's just some peculiar setting on my system(s).

Specs:
i7 2600k
GTX 580
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
16GB DDR3
2X intel X25M-G2 RAID0
Win7 64
Native resolution 2560 X 1600
(little lag on minimum setting and fps close to 100, quite a bit of lag with fps in the 30s)

i7 870
8800GTX
ASUS P7P55D EVO
6GB DDR3
intel X-25M-G2
Win7 64
Native resolution 1600 x 1200
(Lots of lag, fps not very good generally)
