6 Spits vs 6 110s

Over the channel, solid around 35FPS
Coming towards the cliffs and then over land dropped steadily to 14FPS.
Low over the sea, even at 35FPS, jerking became more noticeable. Over the land it was a stutter and jerk fest.

Rudder didn't work at first, but then kicked in later (har..."kicked in").

Audio settings don't work, won't recognize my 5.1 sound, no matter which option I choose, sound from front speakers only.

Realism settings panel stopped working completely, original choice of Realistic disappeared and panel became inoperative.

That's about it I think. The game is still completely unplayable, unless one regards it as for nothing more than small numbers of planes dogfighting exclusively well out to sea. It would not be possible to take off and land with these kinds of jerks and stutters. I don't consider my settings unreasonable, given my system. The code in this game is clearly still in a shockingly bad state.

Oh well, now begins the long long wait.

The weird thing is that with higher res and a little less high video-settings (but not much less), I'm getting about the same results as you. In fact, I could just copy and paste your impression and I wouldn't be lying.

And your system (apart from the GFX-card) looks a good bit faster than mine ...

In fact, it pretty much *exactly* looks like what I'm planning to upgrade to later this year.

Weird...

Im glad this wont be out until mid/late April in the US. I think if I got it now, It would just leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I am looking forward to it being patched up and running well. I think it will in the long run.

Weird indeed. There has to be something major they haven't spotted, there simply shouldn't be this kind of performance issue with the kit we're running. Yes, there are more graphical features in the terrain, but not to the degree that the FPS drops so low AND we get all this jerking going on.

I figure they'll work it out, but how long that's going to take is anyone's guess.

Did you post this First Test over at 1C?
It was in my history ( http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=19798 ).
I notice a couple of threads with the words 'unplayable' have mysteriously vacated that forum???

Unbelievable. I went to see and I find I've been banned. For posting a test report (same as the one above)?! jawdrop Have they gone mental?!

Oh well, I guess they're after deleting all the negative press in the hope of saving sales. Screw 'em, I was planning on bigging up the good bits after test-report #2.

6 Spits vs 6 110s

Over the channel, solid around 45FPS
Coming towards the cliffs and then over land dropped steadily to 29FPS but hit 35FPS quite often
I found that there were NO trees whatsoever and the terrain looked very bland and smudgy. But STILL with the jerks and stutters. I wonder if it's something to do with the mesh? Or the buildings have something wrong?

Anyhoo. The rest of it, the good smooth stuff out at sea, the combat, absolutely stunning. The a/c detail, cockpits, light & shadow, effects, feeling of flight, absolutely the dogs bollocks. Incredible. Sounds mostly suck though, very very poor by comparison.

If they can find the problem with the land this sim is going to be staggeringly good.

And let me just throw in radio-chatter here. Both German and British are, well, bollocks. German speech pattern sounds pretty mechanical most of the time. Yes, I know, they're using an "adaptive" system now that can form complex sentences. But when I run into a moderately large formation, the wing leader goes mental and gives 2 or 3 orders at once it seems. Plus: Am *I* talking in this case? I should've been since I assigned myself as Staffel-Leader.. but weirdly enough, when I give orders from the menu, I don't hear my own voice giving instructions.

DCS:A-10 uses a similar system of "constructed" voice-messages and the result is much better IMO.

Plus both sides are really hard to understand - prolly meant to be realistic and it might just be.. dunno. Also: The voice-comms-menu is way to complicated and with too many sub-menues to give quick orders.

On the other sounds I'm a bit undecided. External sounds are meh! especially the obviously re-used ones on the Spit, Hurri, 109 and Stuka. In-Cockpit sounds are pretty cool though. Engines sound rather nice, moaning and creaking of the airframe is also a nice touch.

I couldn't have said it better. Deleting a performance-report for no good reason is just wrong.

I've not got a great system, but the game looks likely to be unplayable for me (I expected it really).

None of the below was using any sort of AA - it's always the last thing I switch on because I'd rather play with a load of detail and have some jaggies, than less detail and no jaggies (besides, I think my bad eyesight smooths the jaggies out themselves :-) )

A quick mission over the channel with all settings on Very High and EFIT on, just me, saw me with terrible fps. <10 (guessing as I didn't have fps displayed)

Removed the EFIT and had slightly better fps.

Reduced detail to High and it was playable...probably >20fps...over the channel.

As soon as I moved inland, it dropped sub 10fps. I reduced the detail to medium and it was still sub 10fps. This isn't London - or a big town...this is over the countryside.

The sim is absolutely stunning. Cockpits are excellent. Shading is superb in cockpit and on the ground. The lighting is excellent. And that's just as well because with the slideshow it turns into, you have plenty of times between frames to admire it.

This isn't a whinge rally - everyone has let their feelings be known about the fps. I bought it knowing their systems were better than mine. Like I said - just putting this out there that (with my system) this appears to be unplayable.

I might fire it up tonight and give some pics - maybe try and show fps (can you do that in game?). I'll also drop the detail down to whatever so I can see what IS playable on my PC. But I'm thinking it'll be too butt ugly to bother with for the time being.

I'm not due a big PC upgrade for a year or two...so I hope they can optimise it in the software...until then (or I get my upgrade) it's back to A-10C me thinks :-(

oops...my system (like I said - don't laugh)

Oh - and my take on the "UBI" "1C" blame game?

Both.

UBI as the publisher has been (presumably) funding the development, as that is a big part of a publishers job. Clearly they need to make some return and they cannot carry on funding as required...there has to be a line drawn (actually several - every project has development mile points) where money has to be re-couped.

1Cs fault for not being diligent enough to keep to their deadlines. It seems to me that the project has suffered from massive project slip.

So there you go. As far as I'm concerned, they're both to blame for what is clearly an early release.

It does look stunning though. For the first time ever, I want to stay in the cockpit of the machine I'm flying as opposed to jumping to all the outside views to get the eye candy.

WOW! Deletion and ban from a test report!? I guess the word 'unplayable' touched a nerve with someone there.

They're moving all performance related posts out of the main forum now. A newly created Technical Threads sub forum has appeared.

screwy If this is true they can keep their buggy game. Criticism is something you HAVE to tolerate if you want people to take you seriously - and stay in the business!

Absolutely.

I am testing the Russian version myself and have to say, even when the frame-rate is reasonably high (30-50), it is not pretty. It is so up and down and inconsistent that you see stutters and jumps.

FRAPS captures are actually tidying this up. FRAPS locks the frame rate down (23.976fps in my case) and smooths out the video, eliminating those stutters and jumps that see above your capture rate. Only when it drops below the capture rate will a pause appear in video.

So don't be fooled by smooth looking FRAPS captures.

The reason they are censoring posts on their site is the same reason the stock market gets frozen to prevent economic crash. Sometimes the truth, regardless of its honesty, isnt the most prudent thing to lay on the table.

That being said, policing your own forum when there are so many other outlets will only give you a bad image.

When writing a review for a new game, especially when it is a one of one in the market, you should focus on the positive and stay optomistic about the negative.

So, did your original review get the chop, or was it relocated?

The problem with the World is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
