Ok, ok.. so this yearlong lurker has finally registered, just to pose some stupid questions. I just got ROF in the mail today after flying the demo for 48 hrs, and it seems ordering it and (literally) dusting off my stick and rudder pedals was the best thing I did in a long time. Didn't check out multiplayer yet, but I think I'm just about to .. After all: Gotta try my new purchases (Camel and Dr.I) on real people...:) Great game this, apart from the somewhat weird pricing scheme, but whatever ...
So, now on to my questions:
Is it just me or is the DVII totally unreliable? I had numerous missions in which the engine just died on me for no apparent reason. I had the radiator wide open all the time, did no prolonged dives at idle throttle, had plenty of fuel, didn't over-rev it, didn't take any hits and warmed it up before pushing it beyond 1000 rpm. Just to check, I flew one hop with simple gauges on and the temperature never went into the red, but still the engine died again. So, what gives? Does the game model the unreliability of the Merc-engine? I did plenty of missions in most of the other planes and never had that problem.
And while I'm at it: Is there a way to make the view-switches "sticky"? I don't have TrackIR and am using snap-views set pretty much to the angles old WB 2.xx or WW2Onl offered. I also use the "additional view-modifier" to give me a zoomed in look of the gunsight. The way the modifier works however, I have to hold the button down to stay zoomed in. Any workaround for that? I'd like to be able to switch-zoom onto the gunsight (like "Gunsight-view" in WW2ONL) and stay there until I switch it off again.
Plus: The "cockpit out of focus"-option in the setup-screen is greyed out for me. Is that due to my hardware (GF GTX 260 with 896 MB RAM) or is it an option that' not yet implemented?
Thanks for your input!
Sascha

So you've been earwigging us for twelve months is that what you're telling us Sorry sascha I'd like to hear those answers too, but to say welcome aboard the good ship RoF <pipes> Cockpit out of focus is a depth-of-field shader I should think and your 260 is a powerful card, have you the latest drivers and question two have you tried checking the rendering in both full screen and in a window? Hmm no I checked, it's greyed-out for me too on a 285, let me try taking settings to minimum one by one <furious clicking noises> Ahah, cockpit out of focus wakes up and can be enabled when I turn off anti-aliasing Devil and the deep blue sea dear boy*, your choice. But there's one question to tick off The 'Cockpit out of Focus' option there in Settings is usually called a 'DOF shader' or simply 'Depth Of Field' Ming * for role-playing porpoises, for example I myself am a 14 stone woman from Bridlington

Thanks Ming .. I tried it and it worked. But since it feels kinda unnatural with the blurry cockpit I switched it right back off. On the first go I thought I needed glasses because everything was so blurry.. I've been playing around with all my planes a bit more (bought two more while I was at it) and I did experience a similar engine failure in ...err.. a Camel IIRC. I *think* it had something to do with me not warming up the engine properly. I mean, I do what the manual says and let it run at under 1000 rpm for 3 minutes or so, but the AI in career mode sits on the ground way longer than that before they roll. So, maybe all those dead engines were just due to my impatience ..

all those dead enginesIt's a nightmare, same here, I'm still trying to find the mixture control <peers around> These are Model T Ford type engines "A bumblebee flew into my goggles and we drove over the man with the red flag" I bet http://www.century-of-flight.net/new%20site/frames/rotary%20engines_frame.htmOk not the Model T then Ming

Even the most hardcore hi-realism fellows allow themselves the pre-warmed engine option, no need to be a masochist, it is just bits and bytes anyway, they won't melt down.

Hi sascha! your D7 problem may is, you simply over cool the engine by not closing the radiator in dives?

Watch the RPM in dives, don't let it get over 1600rpm

Welcome aboard! Just so you know: we also have a wiki where you may find some answers, although it is (and will be) a "work in progress".
