I would generally not be interested in a WW1 sim, but reading this thread has been so interesting (really knowledgable folks here, wow) that I'm feeling kinda pumped about it. A dynamic campaign is a must though. Seriously.

The Pfalz, Fokker D7's and Triplanes were full scale replicas built for the movie. They only built a few, so French SV4 biplanes were painted in Flying Circus colors to fill up the sky behind them. I think it was all really well done, and even knowing all of that, anytime I see this picture, it still doesn't bother me.
The SE-5's are interesting, in that they are not full scale planes. They were 85 percent scale, but no matter how many time I've seen this movie (and I've seen it plenty! I used to own a VHS copy, and lost it) I still can't tell. They stuck Lewis guns on the upper wings of some of the SV-4's and painted them brown, to fill up the British air scenes, too.
An old French trainer called a Caudren(did I spell that right?) 277 served as both an RFC two-seater, and a German two-seater.
Great movie, isn't it? I NEVER get tired of watching it. Hi Pooch, Despite the inevitable visual anomolies (large modern electricity pylons in the background of the final fade-out scene at the airfield, some German troops carrying Lee Enfield Mk.4 rifles, airfield offices with 1940s window frames) I quite agree it's a great movie. Never quite accepted George Peppard's US accent in a supposed German flyer, but he certainly looked suitably teutonic and acted the part well. Mind you, British actors speaking with a guttural German accent is equally silly when you think about it . . . I thought the flying sequences were excellent - particularly the selected shots looking over the pilot's shoulder that gave the viewer a huge sense of speed and vulnerability. Apart from the generic diving engine sound that's almost exactly like a diving Stuka and may well be a stock cinema sound effect from their libraries, the visual effects were excellent. I also liked the fact the aircraft had a suitably slightly battered and weathered look to them but without overdoing this. Interested to know what the single wing shiny metallic aircraft was that represented the experimental plane at the end. Did they have metal plating back then? As for Ursula Andress (should that be Undress?), well she'd certainly steam up yer goggles . . . Thanks for the info regarding planes used etc. Chox.

Hello everyone!
IIRC, the airplane in question was a Morane-Saulnier "parasol wing" MS-315 or MS-317. At the time of the film making, a lot of them were in use in France for glider towing, so they were readily available, like the SV4 for that matter.
The MS-31x was designed just after the highly successful MS-230, which was designed in France as a trainer in 1930. It could be considered as a slightly lighter and less powerful version of the 230...Structurally, it was canvas-over-wood frame, except the wing spar and front fuselage which were metal. The airplane in the movie is painted to give a metallic feeling...

We just dont know about maximum cause of luck of time, but we hope to do as many changes as we can, to make it at least closer to dinamic campaighn.

You want to see a WWI Airwar movie where the planes are authentic and correct? Sorry, it is black and white and was filmed in USA but the writer/director was there in WWI -- it's a good film.
Hell's Angels
Howard even did some of the flying in that one.

Another awesome movie is "Dawn Patrol" that stars Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone and David Niven.
The younger set probably wouldn't appreciate the style in which the movie is made as it's a "when men were men" type of movie as in "Gunga Din".

i came accross some good ww-1 plane models at this website recently , some of you may like them if you are into the old birds. their ww1 planes seem the best quality of the whole range, and they list them as "Museum Quality Replicas hand made with the finest materials and building techniques." but i havnt seen one in the flesh be prepared for a steep price, but the models look quiet large and some have moving parts. http://www.militarytoyshop.com/prodtype.asp?PT_ID=124&strPageHistory=cat

Copterdrvr I'm MUCH thinner than Ebert - and harder to please. And you are right - it is a 75 year old movie - and not a very good one - IMO. These things are largely subjective in any case. Cheers, Barkhorn.
