I had the exact same problem. Not sure why, but game would not launch after installing the new beta patch. I should have checked here (SimHQ) first, but thought I had somehow "corrupted" my install, so I uninstalled COD, and as I type this I am re-downloading the game from Steam.... sigh.... I probably did not need to go that far.
