You guys post a lot of potential of really good movies, not sure where to start. I do want see “ Project Hail Mary “ but not released yet on my cable.

Never watch a single episode of Gilligan Island. I seen episodes clips on YouTube and internet. It aired in 1964 to 1967? That is long before my time.
And yet you’ve posted here about old movies from the 30’s and 40’s that you’ve seen that I’m sure most people your age have never heard of.

PanzerMeyer got me interested in re-watching all the "original" Charlie Chan movies (27). I'm sure most of you know that I was watching. I've been watching ~4 a day -- 12 left. I'm watching in order they were "made" -- rather than the order "presented" in the box of DVDs (order shown in attached image).

Just looked at the cast for "The Black Camel" and noticed Bela Lugosi is in it. He had an interesting life for sure. He was born in what is now modern day Hungary, served in the army in WWI under the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then later on emigrated to the US.

Done with Charlie Chan series -- for the second time.
The producers and writers made very serious blunders with the way things were presented in most of the first 24 episodes -- in my opinion. The final 3 episodes (of 27 total) obviously tried to "undo" some of the "damage" to the look and feel of the Series.
But, "beauty is in the eye.....". Some folks probably "got a kick" out of Charlie's Sons "shenanigans". I was disappointed that they spoiled what should have been a classic Detective Series.

I think the above two quotes were "damage control". I did agree the murder mysteries themselves were good -- but damaged by "over the top" ridiculously-stupid behavior of Chan's Sons. The fact that the last 3 episodes dropped the very-excessive stupid scenes indicates the truth of the matter.

I'm late Gen X and I used to watch Gilligan's Island along with a bunch of other earlier era T.V. series when I was a kid in the '80s. For one thing, there wasn't a whole lot else to watch most of the time on the whopping 13 channels that were available.
I would have much rather have watched one the action series of the time, like this mostly forgotten gem that cashed in on the so-called Ninjamania craze:
Crane Hunter must be around my age. As a kid I watched a ton of 50’s and 60’s tv show reruns like Star Trek, Gilligan’s Island, I Dream of Jeannie, The Munsters, the Addams Family, I Love Lucy and many many others.

“I Dream of Jeannie” is the earliest tv show I can think of that took place in Florida.

I figured I'd put this here; I woke this morning with a song in my head fully formed, all the lyrics, a TV show I haven't seen or heard in 30-40 yrs "Here's Cathy who's been most everywhere, from Zanzibar to Barkley Square.,. But Patty's only seen the sights a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights, what a crazy pair.." Yesterday, I watched "Sherlock Holmes" 2009 version and "Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows" 2011 follow up.
These are revisionist Sherlock Holmes plots not mere remakes of original book plots. They are set in the 1890s. They flow from one film to the next. The third film in the series has been delayed for years -- although on-line says its currently in-process.
Sherlock has literally inhuman abilities to reason. Literally prize fighter abilities to fist fight. Etc. But, the movies did provide reasons why and how Sherlock figures things out and back scenes to make it clear. It also shows him to be well built when the "shirt is literally off".
Watson is presented as very intelligent also -- unlike the many other Sherlock Holmes movies I've seen. He too can solve crime related problems. He and Sherlock agree on the handling of some situations and debate on others. However, when Watson definitely does not agree with the direction Sherlock is headed, they argue forcefully about it. But, so far, Watson sticks with Sherlock -- frequently with a frown on his face. And, by standing with Sherlock in dangerous situations, he has saved Sherlock a couple times.
Moriarty showed up. He has a Sherlock level mind -- he can even use that mind to plan a fist fight in "real-time" during the few seconds before it starts (his body is not convincing ).
My overall impression is Positive. Early in the first movie, it turned me off; but, as the first movie progressed, it turned me on. Not necessarily the Best Ever detective movies -- but, worth my watching them. Its free for me since I'm an Amazon Prime member.
I quite like the RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies. Well-made and entertaining.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
I’ll be seeing it in the theater this coming weekend.
