I’m pretty sure Brigitte Nelson’s acting career faded into obscurity after the last day of the 80’s.

I never found her particularly attractive: way too tall and her hair was too butch.

I always find IMDB bio pages interesting, as you can see who stars married, and how long they were married. A good indicator of someone who is a pain in the ass is a string of short marriages.

I’d say that applies to about half of all Hollywood actors!

How far are we from having robots that look real humans serving us?

I have seen a bunch of movies in the last few weeks, here are some:

1) "Intolerable Cruelty" -- Nice, funny Coen Brothers movie about really despicable people. *** out of **** stars.

2) "Tag" -- Hilarious true story about grown adults continuing to play the game of tag, well into adulthood. *** out of **** stars.

3) "Criminal" -- Costner continues to make great movies, this time swapping brains with a dead CIA agent. Fun, yet at times heartbreaking watch. *** out of **** stars. There could have been a sequel to this one, but alas, seems there has not.

4) "Bill and Ted Face the Music" -- I expected this one to suck, but was pleasantly surprised. *** out of **** stars. Good. Missing George Carlin, though.

5) "Smile" -- Wasn't a bad horror movie, might even be a new genre called the "Psychological Slasher," however, *light spoiler warning* the main character, a shrink, could have defeated the bad guy buy putting on a straight jacket and committing herself to a rubber room. Easiest horror villain ever to defeat. But, as horror movies go, she was a moron and did not do this. ** 3/4 out of **** stars.

6) "Out of Control" -- This is the Sean Young version of movies with this title from the 90s. A noir thriller that flounders and flops. The writers and directors basically felt the audience are idiots and gave us an ending that was total wtf garbage. They violated the writer's promise to the audience, in that if a character a story is being told in the perspective knows something, the audience should know this, too. They broke this rule. Never break this rule. You can have a character lie to the audience, but to completely hide something they are aware of and then pull that out of a rabbit's hat in the end? Despicable, trash writing by the worst of hacks. * out of **** stars.

7) "Smile 2" -- This is rated higher on IMDB than the first movie... I cannot understand why. We know how the movie is going to end in the first ten minutes, yet they spend the next two hours trying to gain our sympathy of the main character, then lead us on a tangent, and surprise! The film ends this way after all. Talk about spoiled opportunity. They should watch 1985's "The Return of the Living Dead" and take a lesson from that film: Give the audience what they want! Don't lead them on. Give them what they want, and then boost that by a power of one thousand, like Dan O'Bannon did. "Smile 2" could have done this halfway through, instead of forcing us to wade through the flashy slop, but no, they did not do this. ** out of **** stars.

8) "The Menu" -- Finally a thriller/horror that understands what the people want: We want to see pretentious pricks get what they deserve. I liked this, and has NFB's favorite wide eyed beauty Anya Taylor-Joy in a starring role. This was great. Best part? The movie did not drag things out. Think "American Psycho" making fun pretentiousness meets a chef then bad things happen. Because that's what this movie does: makes fun of the snobbiest, snootiest segments of society, and does this well. Side note: My wife and I once went to a high-end restaurant full of people like in this film, and let me tell you, we had to try very hard not to bust out laughing the entire time at the snootiness in the dining room. *** out of **** stars.

Always love these reviews, rare that I don't end up watching at least 1 or 2 and enjoy. Must agree with you about something.

I find the more you write about a film, the better and my Google Keep to watch list is growing nicely.

I haven’t seen any of the films in that list but I may check out “The Menu” because I’m a big fan of Ralph Fiennes.

I looked up “Out of Control” and it very much looks like the typical instantly-forgettable B movie that Sean Young was relegated to after she ruined her Hollywood career and reputation with her infamous stalking of James Woods and later Tim Burton.

I don't understand British humor

There is no understanding, only laughing.


If you do not find "Holy Grail" humorous, I don't know how to help you.

My daughter finds the movie hilarious. Anyone I know does.


And dry British humor is exceptional.

I thought Benny Hill was the pinnacle of British humor until I discovered Monty Python several years later!

Fawlty Towers is the pinnacle of British humour! Perfection in every episode.

12 episodes of perfection. I always wanted more but I think they did the right thing.

Wasn't there a rumour about a new series? I really hope not.

Mark Wahlberg, Halle Berry, & J.K. Simmons

Material should have been better for the cast that was hired. IMDb rates it 5.4/10 and I would have only given it a 6/10. If you have time to kill it might be worth a watch otherwise give it a pass. The main thing I remember is that once again Halle had to find a way to make herself look like crap with the hairstyle that she or they chose for her character.

Re-watching The French Connection, it's been a minute since I seen it last in 2023.

Gene Hackman won Best Actor, Roy Scheider was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but didn't win, lost to some Ben Johnson for some Last Picture Show. It was also Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing and Best Editing of 1971.
