It's no coincidence that only the original film was a big blockbuster hit. Every film after that in the franchise fell way short of expectations. I think the original film was a big hit simply because it had a unique premise for 1984 and there was great chemistry between the main cast members.

There was also that dumb soundtrack which for some reason did well & inflated the movie audience more.

She is also a producer. I have no idea if she is tired of doing it, but if she is I imagine it is counterbalanced by the money she is making and the realization that not only are there a lot of starving actors/actresses that never got the break, but also that there are not a lot of good roles available to 60 year old actresses.

She is wealthy enough that she doesn't need to keep doing it for financial reasons, so I suspect she finds the work rewarding in other ways as well.

BINGO. I have several acquaintances who worked or currently work in showbiz and they always tell me that the general public really has no idea what working in showbiz is really like. As you alluded to, for every successful actor who gets big film and tv roles, there are about 100 actors who are barely getting by doing the occasional commercial or tv episode guest spot and have to do side jobs like working at a restaurant.

Definitely a franchise was not needed, but absolutely one of the most iconic movies of all time. There's just so much perfect in those couple hours of screentime.

I suffered through Rings of Power season 2 out of morbid curiousity.

Amazon Diddied up the source material without the benefit of baby oil, is all I can say.

I did like the portrayal of Sauron though, and the Adar character, but that's not nearly enough to make up up for all the cringe elsewhere.

Big George Foreman. Mostly well done, but since it covers his whole life they kinda skip through at a brisk pace. I knew he was a boxer in his 40s, what I didn't know is he stopped for a decade or so and then started again. They put him at the bottom and he clawed his way back to the top.

He also had that cooking grill that sold really well for a while!

One of the lines in the movie was something like, "I don't know what they were thinking getting a fat guy like me to sell grills for losing weight."

He started endorsements like that and getting back into boxing because his accountant gambled all his money away leaving his church and community center broke. He left boxing originally to be a preacher after what a near death experience.

This show perplexes me because supposedly many people trash it for being so woke and for changing the lore created by Tolkein but yet the series is apparently getting good enough streaming numbers to stick around. Maybe fans keep watching in the hopes that it will get better?

It has some decent scenes as you'd expect from a series where they're spending $60 million an episode, which is 4x what HBO spent on the already lavishly funded Game of Thrones series for example.

Despite that, it's mediocre at best, often venturing into cringe territory.

I know I wouldn't be watching it if I hadn't binge watched damñ nearly every other T.V and movie series during the lockdowns and when I was incapacitated for months with Covid.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I've seen everything that interests me and a lot of my viewing these days is rewatching old series. Just finished up the Star Trek franchise for the 3rd / 4th time? Also recently rewatched "Person of Interest". Started rewatching some "Magnum PI"

But no matter how desperate I get, I won't be watching any woke garbage. They simply are not going to get me as a viewing statistic. I'm too stubborn.

I know I am behind a bit since they came out in 2022 but I just binge watched all 9 episodes of season one of Tulsa King yesterday on Amazon Prime video. I went in not expecting much but I have to say that Stallone put together a solid cast for this series and I only wish that season 2 was available somewhere other than Paramount+.

Did you ever give Westworld a shot? I recommend it since you seem to like sci-fi quite a bit.

No, I don't subscribe to HBO. And I don't recall specifics but there was something at the time that turned me off about Westworld.

Found Speed Racer on Amazon Prime. I remember watching it in the early 1970's because I thought the Mach 5 was a cool looking car. I even had one, possibly two, Hot Wheels Mach 5 cars.

Even had I seen it at the time I would have never made the connection. The Mach 5 speedometer is in km/h so when he is going 200 he is only going around 120 mph. Even in 1967 when this was aired the cars in the Nascar racing series were capable of running in the 180 to 190 mph range or over 300 km/h.


Dad's 1967 Plymouth Belvedere and 1970 Ford Torino fastback production cars would go over 120 mph.
