What I will say about the extended version of Prometheus is that it makes a little more sense. It doesn't explain why they sent the equivalent of Joe Biden/Kamala Harris on such an important mission. Maybe they wanted someone 'dumb' to get infected. Look what Burke did to try and get Newt and Ripley infected in Aliens.

Just my take on it. It's still a film I enjoy, it's just better with friends and a few glasses of JD.

You are correct Chucky, long version better but it doesn't correct the fact those are stupid people except for Shaw. When we were children and Dad and Mom took us to someplace like the store or their friends home, remember what they always said to us?

I will rewatch Covenant this week. I remember it was bad like Prometheus.

Covenant was even worse than Prometheus in my opinion. The only good part of that movie was Michael Fassbender. Covenant was full of the same problems that Prometheus had; plot full of holes and character motivations that made no sense.

Just watch the original "Alien" and "Aliens," and forget the two new ones. "Alien 4" is surprisingly re-watchable if you focus on the dialogue alone, and at least doesn't pull the horrible b.s. like Alien 3 did at the beginning with Newt and Corporal Hicks.

Sometimes breaking conventional story rules and taking a risk works but in the case of Alien 3 with killing off Newt and Hicks it certainly did NOT work.


But what you alluded to is true: Only the first two films are classics and worth watching over and over again. Everything else after that is forgettable for the most part.

If you take away the beginning of 3 on how they butchered the ending of Aliens, you're left with a mediocre copy of Alien. Not terrible, but I'd rather rewatch Alien.

I saw a few movies the last few weeks:

1) "The Fight Machine" -- This one surprised me. I wanted to watch a boxing movie, but nothing too long, because for some reason directors seem to think fight movies should be 2.25 hours or longer. Nah. This 1:44 runtime indie with Michael Ironside in a supporting role(who actually survives to the credits for what might be one of the only few times in his acting history) has a punch. The film held my interest throughout, and the evolution of the characters and the plot was entertaining. *** out of **** stars.

2) "Masterminds" -- Silly comedy based on the true story of an armored car driver who is compelled to rip off his employer for a large amount of money. Idiots exist, and they're on full display here. Thankfully idiots are funny, or to some of us, at least. From the director of "Napoleon Dynamite," the film is full of quirky humor, as one would expect, and generated plenty of laughs. Not for the woke crowd, which is a good thing. *** out of **** stars.

3) "The Nightingale" -- I dare say this is among the best movies I have seen in two decades. Shot in 4:3 aspect ratio, this 2018 thriller takes place in colonial Australia, where the British government rules over the prisoners and the aboriginal population with ruthless aggression. Dark, engrossing, meaningful, the meandering plot will take you on an adventure worth having, and the song played in the credits sums everything up, succinctly and perfectly. Unlike most films, here we have a story worthy of the long runtime. This is a masterpiece and should not be missed. *** 3/4 out of **** stars.

4) "The Beguiled" -- 1970s Clint Eastwood tawdry romp that for obvious reasons was shuttered from broadcast television when I was a kid. He plays the antihero, as always, but here I don't even think hero fits. He's just downright sly and despicable. One might say he's a man capitalizing on situational opportunity, and many would, surrounded by so many women. This civil war drama was a fun watch. *** out of **** stars.

5) "Malevolence" -- Horror is often a mixed bag. When one peruses IMDB, against conventional wisdom, the best gems of the genre are often found at the 5 out of 10 mark. These are the films that aren't afraid to piss off one group or another. They take risks and defy conventions, and will often include stereotypes in a useful way. The more divided and polarizing the mix of review scores, the more likely there's gold buried in the film cannister. This pure to form slasher was a good one, and surprised me. I want to watch the prequel next. Not quite "Last House on the Left," but enough twists and turns to be good enough. *** out of **** stars.

6) "Neighbors" (1981) -- I started out ready to watch the 2013 "Neighbors," but couldn't will myself to press play. The lingering thought there might be a same named movie from 1981 simply proved too enticing. This oddball comedy starring favorites John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd gave me some chuckles, throughout, and maybe a laugh or two, but for the most part was quite odd. Not the worst of 80s comedies, but not the best. Blues Brothers this was not, nor was this bad, either. A bit better than fair, I rate this ** 1/2 out of **** stars.

Yeah, I contemplated the remake, but Clint Eastwood won the draw, as he always has.

Seen the six first episodes of Justified: City Primeval. Set in Detroit, and while Raylan Givens is still one of my favourite TV characters of all time, he doesn’t get much to work with in this show. A lot of the spark that made the first six seasons so great is gone, and while Timothy Olyphant tries, he really isn’t given much to work with. The main villain is just a psychopath, and not likeable and smooth-talking like Boyd Crowder was. Even the setting itself feels sort of generic. Kentucky (and I know it was filmed in California) and its inhabitants was almost a character in itself.
Raylan feels a bit..neutered really. The first episode started out well, but from halfway in he isn’t like he used to be. Smooth-talking and quick-drawing before, he seems to back down from situations where he would have stood his ground before. Not his old self, and not up to the standards of the original show.

Haunting of the Queen Mary 2023

It has some great visuals and creepy moments, but the jumbled plot dragged it down.

I see Alice Eve is in it. Last thing I saw her in was Star Trek Into Darkness which was 10 years ago!
