Good question. In the end, I don't think it matters a whole lot what you do and in what order. But I can tell you how I approached it.

There are a few different main quest threads, like the Overseer and Wayward for example. I sort of alternated between each one. Look at those listed under main quest in your pip-boy. And in between doing these quests I did a little of everything else. Side missions, daily missions and events. Some of the events are pretty easy if a few players have joined. Like Tea Time for example. Keep an eye on the events shown in the lower left corner of the map. If you see any yellow hexagon events, check the difficulty rating. Those marked easy and very easy are a good way to get involved. Just join event and fire away. Doesn't matter if you die, you'll respawn right there and continue on. Just try to tag every enemy you see (land a shot on them) and keep going until the event either completes or fails. There are really good rewards in these events, and the stuff you will need to roll legendary weapons is found here. Definitely worth it. This, combined with being on a public casual team will get a lot of XP. I usually roll with a rank 2 Inspirational perk card too for another 10% when in a team.

And amid all of that, I have been mixing in patrols. I just gear up, head out, and explore some part of the map I haven't visited yet, or return to places where I found stuff that is good for my character. Since this is online, everything repopulates, so you can raid the same ammo box or other container every day. Or you can even server hop and keep hitting the same spot over and over it it proves especially lucrative. I don't do much of that, but it is an option.

FO76 is full of little quality of life features. And one of these is the fact that your inactive quests still show as markers on the map. So when you head off to do one, you might notice more markers nearby. So you can then hit them all if you want, since they are conveniently all in close proximity. This is an efficient way to play, tick off quests and gain levels and stuffs. The daily quests are there all the time and repeatable, so if you identify a couple you like you can do them over and over.

So yeah, main quest, side quest, a little patrolling and exploring, another side quest, the other main quest and so on down the line, just doing whatever seemed fun at the moment. By the time I hit level 25 I sort of decided I wanted to save most quests for level 50 and above, so that if I got some good gear it would be max level. At that point I did a lot more exploration, opening up the map and fast travel points. Then when I hit 50 I went back to ticking off quests.

I don't know what level you are, but I would probably say to follow the overseer quest until you go to her home and she says come back at level 20. Then start to hit the other stuff. Most players seem to suggest doing overseer and wayward (the Duchess quests) in the beginning. Sort of what I did too.

Did you get the backpack plan at the end of the quest to Morgantown airport?

I am still on level 10.

I just covered a robot from safe room to safe room. smile

I can`t find out which plans I have. Where are they stored?

It is also hard to find out where the waypoint for the overseer mission is.

Main missions are: "An ounce of Prevention" and "Hunter for hire".

Side missions are: "Cold Case". "Overseer mission". "Personal matters". "Tentative plans". "The order of the Tadpole".

I would try the Overseer mission, but there is no waypoint on the map.

You can inactivate all quests aside from the one you're doing now so your map and HUD are not cluttered with markers. You can also mouse over the quest in the pip-boy and hit C to find it on the map.

Plans are stored under Notes in the pip-boy. Just click to learn.

If there is no overseer marker it might be because you have to find more overseer's chests? You should have a quest like 'follow the overseer' or something. Keep that active and you'll get a marker when you're close. You're looking for overseer's logs holotapes. Those you'll encounter as you do other missions. Maybe it was smooth for me because I alternated so I was finding those chests on other missions and it just advanced overseer's along. Until another overseer quest pops up you can do the two main missions you mentioned.

The first is part of the responders quest line I think it is called. And the second is wayward, or the Duchess quests. I did the second one first, Hunter for Hire. This quest eventually takes you to the lumber company without spoiling too much. And this is where I farmed the rifle I use. It doesn't drop until level 15. But if you'd like to try out the handmade rifle this is a great spot to get it and enough examples for learning the modifications. This is when I did do some server hopping, and would get about 3 Handmades per run though the facility. You can resolve the quest that takes you there peacefully, but since I was level 15 I went in guns blazing in order to get the rifle I wanted to drop from the Free Radicals who carry it, and it did. I did this a lot until I had the plans I needed.

Of course you may be looking at other weapon types, but if you want to go with a rifle it's a good choice.

Doh. Thanks. I just canselled waypoints in the pip-boy to find out which diamond was which mission.

Yes. Wayward must have been one of the first missions I got. From Duchess in the bar.

With regards to Overseer I have to find the fourth log.

Ok. Thanks DBond . I will finish the game now . Continue tomorrow.

Oh weapon. I use a short pump action now. Just got a "Aristocrat`s short pump action Shotgun. (one star). I`ll check it out tomorrow.

I`ll look for rifles.

Backpack plan?

I have a backpack plan stored, but I`m not sure I got it in Morgantown.
Those awards was shown in a short glimse so I didn`t really notice.

I have to figure out the waypoints still.
The only waypoint that shows when pressing C is to Study Dr. Hudsons Research.
Pressing C on "Hunter for hire" does nothing.

I just tasted some Nukashine that was left after a Fraternity party.
I went psykedilic for some time and was then teleported to a place near site Bravo.
Hmm. Strange.

Yes in the chest at the airport where you find the overseer's log there should have been a small backpack plan. I started the game with a backpack, so the level 10 small backpack you can craft from this plan is not a benefit if you already have a backpack. But having the plan means you can upgrade it every 10 levels for more carry capacity, so I've found it useful. At level 50 it is +30 carry weight. Then there are the current summer camp events, which, if you convert that backpack in to a squirrel backpack, you can start hitting the summer camp event rewards. Two of them grant three legendary modules apiece which is nice. One you get just for crafting the backpack!

I also don't like how rewards are shown. The best items tend to be last in the list, but it can only display like the first five, so you don't see the bottom of the list. However, you can go to Items>New in the pip-boy to catch some of what you were just given. But of course if you picked something up from a container you can see it before grabbing it. It's the quest rewards that I'm talking about. The backpack plan would have been in a container.

It's cool you're leaning in to shotguns. I've always liked them in Fallout, especially in FO3. But I seem to always go a different route with my builds. Maybe that's not the weapon you intend to spec in to, but they can be pretty devastating at close range in this game I reckon. I like the combat shotgun a lot. Semi-auto shotties are awesome.

On Saturday I left you another loot bag with some plans in them DBond. I hope the bag was still there when you returned to your camp.

It annoys me that there is no in-game chat feature for people who are on your team.

In the 3,000+ hours I've put into the game, I've seen a very tiny percentage of players using a shotgun and when I have run across one they are almost always using the gauss shotgun. At the other end of the spectrum, there's no doubt that the Fixer, 40mm grenade launcher, plasma caster and the gatling plasma are wildly popular. I see all of those weapons used by other players on a daily basis.

Speaking of the Fixer... I was asking a while a go about how to get it, if there's a mission to unlock it. Turns out there is! So I did this quest and got a Fixer. I had been planning to roll with a Handmade for mid to long range and a Fixer for close range and indoors. This would split ammunition expenditure between two cartridges and slow wear. I have a Fixer, but not the plans, those must drop during an event it seems.

And what a gun it is. It grants additional sneak, increases crouch speed by 20% and does excellent damage. For a long time now I've been gathering .45 ammo and scrapping combat rifles to learn the mods in anticipation of acquiring a Fixer. I guess I haven't done enough as I don't know the powerful automatic receiver. But even with Focused automatic it matches the Handmade for base damage. I expected it to be less. I had also read how it had too much recoil to be useful outside of VATS, but that's not true at all. And to top it all off, the one I have now weighs just 9 carry weight (compared to 16.8 for Handmade rifle). Excellent weapon and it's easy to see why it is so popular. Having it out as I navigate gives me increased stealth -- equivalent to three pieces of shadowed armor according to one description -- and increases stealth movement speed so it is great just to carry, not to mention fire it at foul creatures and bad guys.

Hit level 85. I saw you in the team yesterday Panzer.

Yeah i joined your team and then dropped off the bag with plans at your camp and then I set about getting the daily challenges. Which quest gave you the Fixer as a reward?

Oh sh!t, I didn't get a bag with plans! Oh man, sorry about that. Maybe I logged out before returning to my camp.Or maybe someone else came along.

The quest to get the Fixer is Wolf in Sheep's Clothing which I started by reading the sheepsquatch poster at a train station. That leads you to the taxidermist in Lewisburg and it kicks off from there.

Yes indeed. I bet there was stuff I wanted too. Well, it's the thought that counts right? So thanks.

The entire time I was on I was ready to jump in to Scorched Earth. Usually there's a nuke every hour. But yesterday, not a one. I spent some time organizing my power armor suits, naming them so I could select them from the stash, repairing, modifying and so on. But all that preparation went unrewarded. The Excavator has great carry weight, and I found a servo mod for it yesterday, and I'll need to see what that would do. But it's the T-45 set that offers the best protection out of the ones I have. And it looks aces. Has that pre-war mojo. Reminds me of the enclave power armor from FO3. I bet few rock T-45 but I do smile

Yeah the thing with "Scorched Earth" is that it is entirely player-initiated so if you happen to be on a server with just a few players then it most likely won't be happening. At the other end of the spectrum I remember some Saturday's where I did 3 or 4 of those events in the span of a couple of hours!

I need some flux, violet flux to be specific, I think, for that upgraded BOS officer's uniform underarmor, the plan you gave me. And I think I get that from a nuke zone. Do I pick flora to get flux? I need to look this up.

Next nuke I see I'll strap on some PA and have a bash.

Easiest option for you right now would be to find a vendor who is selling the violet flux. If you can't find anyone then completing either the Scorched Earth or Seismic Activity events will give you a couple of violet flux containers as a reward. How many do you need for that uinderarmor? Just one?

Two are needed. I need four of a another color for the marine wetsuit, but two violet for BoS. I'll check some vendors. NPC vendors sell it?

Unfortunately not. Only player vendors. At least I've never seen an NPC vendor selling them and I have 3,000+ hours in the game. LOL

OK, yeah, I figured as much. And having looked it up I also need things called glowing mass, hardened mass and other stuff. This might be a while. All of this is needed to convert raw flux to stable flux which is the form needed for crafting I guess.

I have yet to spot Wigean out in the wastes. Since you and I became friends I see you more. That did not however trip the 'make a friend' challenge. Still shows 0/1. Wonder why?
