But I bought that 1st subscription for a year, dammit, and I'll probably try lots of things. But then again, maybe not. I've carved out just the sort of build I wanted, and have the weapons I like. Armor too, but I'd like better, always.

Semi-autos worked great in FO4, but I think they are not the best in 76. DPS is the way I think.

Melee is out.

Energy weapons don't trip my trigger either.

Which leaves automatic rifles, automatic pistols and explosives. Lots and lots of explosives.

One of the things about FO 76 that I think is good is the ability to respec on the fly. This alone will probably make me branch out at some point and try some of the other stuff. But if I'm honest, I've found my jam, it's just a matter of making it as good as possible.

All of that sounds very well thought out. My honest viewpoint is that you can get away with just using a rilfe, pistol and grenades the great majority of the time in F76. The only scenarios I see where you may have a problem are some of the events that send lots of waves of enemies against you and where the fighting is indoors so you're talking lots of CQB. Rifles and pistols are definitely not the ideal weapons in those cases.

Yes, another good point, as always. I will have some fallback options for special circumstances I am sure. Along the way I'll get some amazing drops and hang on to them, even if they are of a different type. I would imagine that eventually I will hold on to one of just about every type of weapon so that I have the option to mix things up and to be be suitably outfitted for any particular task, especially the major public events. Truth is, I've nearly gotten every perk I wanted already, so the rest of the way I'll be taking perks 'just in case' for changing things up down the line. SMG, mini-gun, sniper rifle, plasma and so on down the line. With 1st, storage is suddenly not an issue and I can afford to hang on to the stuff I find that appeals to me and dovetails with my build(s)

But I will always carry explosives. Lots and lots of explosives biggrin

Unless they changed anything since the last time I played, heavy weapons were tough to use without Fallout First. The amount of ammo you needed, with the weight of the guns and maybe Power Armor on top of it ate up most of your storage space. They were one of the best for events at the time though. A few of the people I played with switched to other builds that didn't require so much ammo. Usually rifles, either semi or auto, and the crazy ones went with shotguns.
On the other hand, happiness is a belt fed weapon and it's fun to just cut loose with those miniguns or 50cals.

Good post. Sometimes you just gotta bring the iron. I hear some of the biggest events in the near-distance, though I haven't joined those yet. But the amount of gunfire and constant explosions is so cool as it reverberates across the terrain. That is some serious sh!t going on. It's like how I praised the patrol environment in FO4, with gunfire here and there giving the game world a neat vibe, as it's all organic. FO76 is like that, but the variable isn't AI patrols, it's players. It can all kick off just around the corner and I like the mojo it is serving up.

And yeah, 1st has to make a massive difference for players who want to rock PA and carry a big stick (and all the ammo for it)

And now that I've been shown how to have perk loadouts I have to say big respect to you OGs that have played this game before the punch card thing was a thing. I can't imagine how much it sucked to be high level with a ton of combat cards and as many crafting cards and have to swap them back and forth all the time. No, I can imagine it I guess. Even at my low level I was already tiring of it, and I've hardly any that need swapping (though that is now changing past 50). If this was only added a couple months ago then one, I started at the right time, and two, you guys had to fight that for hundreds, or thousands of hours, in some cases here. This machine is absolutely needed, and it works nicely. I just wonder how long it will be before I warp to an event in my crafting setup.

Both storage space and ammo drops from killed enemies have been increased. I think these changes took effect some time last year. For example, storage space for the stash used to be 800 and now it is 1200. Of course Fallolut 1st members have unlimited stashes.

1200 isn't all that much really, and again the veteran players must have really slogged through it at the start. I'm glad I waited so long, and my impressions are quite favorable. I may have had a different take if I had tried it earlier. I've read quite a bit about how it was, and it's far better now, at least for players like me.

Here's the out-in-the-field build I'm running now at level 59. It will evolve, and I'll probably drop Grim Reaper's Sprint since it really doesn't pay off for me enough to justify its place. Maybe different Endurance perks too, once I acquire them. And I think Strength makes sense to go for my second legendary perk for haulin' da loot.

The initial launch of F76 was regarded as a complete failure by the great majority of game reviewers and players. It was so bad that Bethesda actually publicly acknowledged their mistakes and went about to correct it. I didn't start playing F76 until about 2 years after initial release and by then the game was very well polished.

Yeah, for sure. But Bethesda stuck with it, and made a great decision along the way, in my view, and that is they have brought in outside development houses to work on adding content. Their collaboration with Double Eleven has been a big hit. These guys have added a lot of the content we see today, including some of the most popular events. Personally I've been surprised by how much content is in 76. And with how complex some quests are. These are not simple fetch quests, they are complex fetch quests haha. I expected some early fluff missions to acclimate the player to the game, and after that I would be left to my own devices playing public events and running around in PvP or whatever. Instead I find nearly endless content, or it feels that way, that I can run solo. Works for me.

As I approach level 60, drops have been really ramping up in quality. But I still have yet to get a single legendary ballistic automatic rifle. Like the perk packs that are programmed to be all perks I'll never use, the game seems to have noticed my weapon preference and went in to grind mode. And I've not got a sniff of a Fixer yet. No plan, and have not seen one anywhere.

With just a single legendary core to roll a mod with, I was hesitant to do it because I was convinced it would be wasted on a trash roll. Such is my fortune.

I did it anyway, rolling my handmade rifle, and got..... Exterminator. Derp.

That grants +50% damage to insects and mirelurks. Not useless, but nearly so since it's so situational, and anyway the pistol is for insects, not the rifle. The mirelurk bonus is good, but far too situational. I'll roll it again when and if I get another core. And yeah, legendary cores are not for sale at the Rusty Pick. Maybe they used to be, but no longer are. I guess I can only get them as drops or rewards? I'll need to do more events.

I said above that I would probably re-jig my Endurance perks and yeah, Fireproof seems a no-brainer so I swapped over to that. First rank is +15% damage reduction to fire and explosive damage, which covers some of the most dangerous types and makes it all more survivable, especially against some of the toughest enemies.

I have had rotten luck getting drops that suit me. Maybe just confirmation bias, but I don't get perk pack cards I'll use, and legendary drops don't fit my build. Finished a long main quest called New Arrivals last night, and the pay off was a..... Vampire Sledge. Ugg. Please, please drop a nice automatic rifle.

I have been walking,

walking,

and walking,

A lot. smile

So I finished the majors missions and I`m on my way down to the airport.

Met a really mean evil mutant and got killed.

Went down to the airport anyway, but got overpowered pretty soon.

So I am gping back where I was killed to pick up the stash that I lost. With most of my weapons and ammo.
Looks like I have to finish the evil mutant (and his dogs) before going down to the airport again.

Then I played some golf ....

Fun though biggrin

Ah, too bad, I was on a lot yesterday. I have a glance over the teams to see if I can spot you or Wigean, but yet to do so. Even if I saw you I can't send a message, but I could warp to your location and jump up and down smile

Hit level 66. With the BoS quest line taking a lot longer than I had expected, not least because I'm doing other stuff, I decided to craft the Excavator power armor. It's highly rated by the players, gives a nice boost to carry capacity and has excellent protections. Better suits exist, but this will certainly get the job done. Need a new paint though. Can't walk around looking like I work for the gas company. This suit must be crafted, and the mats cost is high. I ran out of screws, springs and black titanium while crafting it. Screws and springs, man, that's the real currency in the game!

Going home in the new suit from Whitesprings where I made it was the first time I've actually worn power armor since I started 76. Crafting the suit in turn gave me the power armor station plans so this was a good thing to do. I like finding awesome weapons and armor and stuff. But plans, man, that's where it is at.

I'm at the stage too where I can start rolling legendaries to see if I can get one I want. And this means I am collecting handmade rifles, each with a different legendary effect. It makes more sense to craft a new weapon and apply the roll to that, rather than re-roll over an effect you don't want. The upshot is I can have weapons more or less suited to various activities. Like for general patrolling and solo stuff I am carrying an instigating handmade with +25% damage while looking down the sights. But if I go to a public event I switch to a vampire handmade for the healing. Once I put up a vendor at my camp it will be a good spot to buy handmades, that's for sure!

If you want any tips for combat or protection, weapons, perk choices and that sort of thing just post it up. I have a lot of them, but you did say you like to figure it out on your own so I don't want to be presumptuous smile

One thing I have no clue about is just how many different servers/instances are up at any one time. I always checked all of the teams and I even looked for your white dot on the map but I never found you.

Well I reckon it averages about 250+ servers at any one time. FO76 averages about 6,000 players, and with 24 players per server that is 250. I reckon we'd be put together if we were friends? I still need a friend for the achievement, and I'm fine with anyone doing it briefly, just for that, and then unfriending me afterwards if that's their preference. I would take zero offense. But maybe we land together more often if we are friends in the game?

Over the last month the players have spiked, 8,500 average, and that would be 354 servers. That makes our odds quite low indeed.

Yes that makes sense. Ok, I'll see if I can just add you to my friends list when I get home from work today.

OK, cool, thanks a lot. Got any nice Fixers you have no use for? biggrin

I've been collecting .45 rounds and scrapping a sh!t ton of combat rifles so I'd have the mods ready to rock, but I have yet to see one. Maybe I have yet to do a quest I need to unlock them?

Another thing I have been looking for is underarmor. I have one but have yet to find a mod it needs to improve the stats. Is there somewhere I can get a set that is already modded? The one I have is called Forest Operative, but it's the basic one with no bonuses yet. I keep checking vendors but nothing's up yet.

Actually I do indeed have a fully modded out 3 star Fixer but it's not for sale. wink

As for underarmor, I use the secret service one and I absolutely love it. I'm pretty sure I bought the plans for it from one of the secret service vendors at some undisclosed Vault that you won't have access to until you finish the main storyline.

However, if you are really lucky you may find a human vendor selling the plans or the underarmor itself.

Ah dammit smile

I'll get a Fixer eventually, but it's almost a certainty I won't care for it after looking for so long. It's a VATS weapon really, so it might not suit me as well as I think it will. Only one way to find out!

Is there a quest which must be done to gain access to Fixers that you are aware of?

Do you have 1st PM? That survival tent is so nice to have. I'm happy to have bit that bullet as the game is better for me with 1st. But it's totally optional and the sort of thing I usually ignore.

There is no quest that I know of which gives you the Fixer specifically as a reward or that gives you the plan for the Fixer. I'm pretty sure that I got the Fixer as a dropped item from a major "boss" that I killed in an event. I just don't remember if it was the Scorchbeast Queen, the Mirelurk Queen or some other major boss.

edit: Oh and I don't have Fallout 1st. I just use the survival tents of other players. biggrin

Thanks. I did a bunch of events yesterday. I just wait for one to start while I am looking at the map and then warp to it. But none of these are the big ones, like Uplink, Scorched Earth or Encryptid, which are the ones I should be doing I think. Maybe now that I have PA I might give those a go. Instead, I was doing the lower-tiered ones like campfire tales, tea-time and line in the sand. I have a screenshot of campfire tales, with like ten players. It took literally two minutes to complete with so many players jumping in. Pretty cool.

But yeah I think the Fixer will drop from some of the hardest events. Or the plans maybe. I don't need it, but since starting I envisioned running handmade and Fixer combo so I'll see if I can get that done, or find it in player vendor.
