Appearantly the Edgerunner cartoon helped provide a large boost in terms of both sales and existing owners returning to the game.

Imagine how big a hit it could have been if CDPR had played its card better?

Heh, if a combat flight sim sells more than ONE million copies that's considered great.

This game takes at least 40 or more mods to even make it enjoyable because CPR put more effort into politics and paying one actor then actually modeling AI and other mechanics in the game that other games a decade or more old, already perfected. Sales be damned, the game still sucks stock out of the box. People are such lemmings these days and will buy anything regardless of how bad it is.

Its really not an RPG as advertised either. Its an adventure/shooter game with a linear story. Id much rather prefer playing Cyberpunk 2020 with a gamemaster screen and a bag of dice with friends.

While I enjoyed my two playthroughs of the game I will also say that one big disappointment for me is the fact that there is barely any difference at all with the main storyline whether you choose to be corpo, street kid or nomad.

I'd disagree totally. I'm running just a handful of mods (mostly aesthetic stuff, nothing that really messes with core gameplay) and I've found it super enjoyable.
I'd say it's a hybrid action-RPG. You definitely play a role, and how you interact with people has a very noticeable impact on the way the story and game plays out. It also has stats and progression that are a key part of RPGs.

The vanilla game has improved a lot over the past year since that post was made.

That's not to say that it still doesn't fall far short of expectation but at least it's no longer outright broken.

I did start playing it only a few months ago, because I read about the release mess - but then read that they'd fixed it.
One thing I'd say it does exceptionally well is world building. It really captures the vibe of a dystopian post-war ultra-capitalist hellhole where life is worthless unless you are ultra-rich.

I bought CP2077 long ago. Gave it a "quick look" (less than an hour). Then, waited for it to be "finalized".

I buy interesting-looking RPGs early to support the post release development and then usually wait over a year for them to be finished. Your comments help me know "when to start".

I would take living in the world of Cyberpunk over the real one for the most part.

It may be touted as a dystopia, but it's one that was originally envisioned during the much better times of the '80s, so in some ways it seems almost quaint.

It also must be remembered that Cyperpunk America has suffered a catastrophic collapse and is not necessarily representative of the state of the rest of that world.

Yes, mega corporations like Arasaka seem to imply that Japan is not a post apocalyptic hell hole like large parts of the US are.

I played the base game this weekend for a few hours and it has been VASTLY improved since release.

There are American megacorps as well, Militech and Petrochem being two examples, but yeah Japan has fared far better in this setting than the former United States has, and has probably been the world's single most powerful country for over 80 years by the events of the game.

Anyway, I still don't have a gaming PC so I'm not going to playing anything any time soon.
