I just finished watching the first 2 seasons of the Witcher T.V. series.
I haven't read the books nor played the games to any great degree, but I have to say that it kicks The Wheel of Time series' ass.
The first 2 Witcher games are badly outdated now but I strongly recommend you give Witcher 3 a shot. IMHO, it's one of the greatest RPG's ever made.

I started to watch The Expanse yesterday, and really enjoy it so far!. Yeah I know I am late to the party!
Never really played The Witcher 3 (or 2) either. For some reason or another I just didn´t, but I agree that the first season really kicks butt. I have still yet to see season 2.

"The Expanse" is truly a rare gem when you consider just how little space-based science fiction is out there right now on tv/streaming besides Star Trek.

The first game is the best, by far, in my opinion. The others do not come close.
The first game keeps it simple with regards to weapon choices, there's no "gamey" mechanics, and you can basically focus on the good part which is the story, the characters, and the decisions you make and the huge changes they will effect in the world.
Play it, despite being old.
edit: I think the difference with folks who prefer Witcher 3 vs. Witcher 1 is maybe when we started playing computer RPG games. I grew up playing RPGs on PC in the 80s, and still hold the Ultima series as well as Quest for Glory as some of the finest examples of what an RPG should be. I don't like grinding, nor do I care for repetition. I enjoy exploration and the journey, not the loot or prizes I find.
I couldn't get on with Witcher 1 vanilla. I came back to it with FCR, and found the changed mechanics and 'world balance' to be much more to my taste (far lower magic emphasis, fewer magic weapons etc. - as well as less spongy enemies, and a stronger emphasis on protecting your back (by position or the use of the group style). The Ecology system also improved encounter/rencounter balance.

Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes "The Feature Film Collection":
Watched #1 "The Sign of the Four" and watched #2 "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Made in mid 1980s of events in mid 1880s.
Both were "meh" -- nothing special. Not recommended as good entertainment. The films were not fully faithful to the Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes TV Series (filmed mid 1980s and 1990s) -- that we're watching (a little each week).
The movies downplayed Sherlock and his thinking. Moreover, Watson got disproportionate "face time" -- Watson is not "main character" material. These were filmed early -- presumably prior to Jeremy Brett's serious illness.
In virtually every Sherlock TV show, Sherlock comments to Watson (who is writing Sherlock's life story). Sherlock says that Watson is not being "faithful" to Sherlock's actual "thought processes" (which is "what its all about"). The movies accentuate Watson's shortcoming.

Watched #3 and #4 (of 5 films).
#3 "The Master Blackmailer" (1990): A good movie in the spirit of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes TV series.
#4 "The Last Vampire" (1992): The best so far. Plenty of Sherlock "on camera investigating". And, the scenes gave clues to the viewers (without always highlighting them) -- hence, the viewer could try to solve the "mystery" before the final scenes (where the facts were made clear). I got most of it right.
The above films were "based on Conan Doyle's writings" -- but titled differently because they were revised to make better films. One more to go in this series of 5 movies.
More movies being far too long. Once upon a time great movies were only 1.5 to 1.75 hours long. They knew how to get to the point.

You have to judge it on a film by film basis. Seven Samural is just over 3.5 hours and it's one of the most highly regarded films of all time.

#5 "The Eligible Bachelor" (1992): Again, slightly revised story and slightly revised title versus Doyle's title. Entertaining to us; but, not special enough to recommend -- except to Sherlock Holmes fans.
Jeremy Brett died in 1995 at almost 62 years old -- of congenital heart failure. He did have the face, voice, and "acting" to pull off a believable arrogant super-genius.
We are still watching shows from his TV series and have a dozen or so left to watch.
