I have some friends who have already put Cyberpunk down and went back to other games. "Window dressing" and "less immersive than GTA V" seem to be a common theme.
They're not right, are they?
I don't know about that, but it definitely has less depth than Fallout 4.
Not sure if I could handle another playthrough, unless major content is added.
The only Bethesda game I have ever beaten is Morrowind,
Why is that? Did all of their other RPG's bore you eventually?
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Many of them had bad writing or the worlds felt stale and like props.
1) Arena - this was their first. I played it a lot, and for the time, was great, but ultimately the procedural world generation revealed its true colors and the game was not immersive anymore. This game came out a few years after Ultima 6 and 7, and the world building quality wasn't even a shadow of what they offered. The combat was fun, though.
2) Daggerfall - I played this one a lot, also, and was even better than Arena, but ultimately everything began to feel like props, and the quest repetition and do this/do that dissolved into tedium. Once again, Ultima 6 and 7 obliterated the game in world design and feeling alive.
3) Morrowind - Amazing writing! Wow! The worldbuilding was strong, here, and the game was exceptional. Every town had a theme, the books were good, the characters were mostly interesting(though there was some repetition, which we never saw in the Ultimas, where every single NPC was unique). I played through this game a second time in 2014 using the Morrowind Overhaul 3.0 mod pack.
4) Oblivion - pretty fun, put in a hundred hours, nice graphics and great combat. No longer was swinging a sword and blocking with a shield janky. Ultimately, though, the writing sucked, especially in the books, and the NPCs began to feel like cardboard.
5) Skyrim - lots of fun, but the writing was atrocious. So bad. Frankly, the books weren't ever worth reading. Might as well burned them all. The dragons were really cool, but being one shotted by enemies over and over got old. I have a rule - if an enemy can one shot me, I #%&*$# well better be able to do the same, otherwise the game is broken. I'd probably play again just because the game can be fun, despite the shortfalls. The NPCs felt more lively, however than Oblivion.
6) Fallout 3 - fun time, pretty good writing and world building, but for some reason I never beat the game once I joined some big faction that had a metal fortress on one side of the Potomac.
7) Fallout New Vegas - fun, nearly impossible combat without using VATS which was a huge turnoff. Enemies would never miss and one or two shot me, which was ridiculous. I ran mods, the game could be immersive, but ultimately because I was playing when my wife first became disabled, the whole experienced proved far too depressing and I put it down after probably a hundred or so hours in.
8) Fallout 4 - I don't know what the main story was about. I just set forth into the world and wandered for hours upon hours. I had plenty of fun, but also was playing during my wife's illness and some nonsense I was dealing with in my life.
Once one has played Ultima 6 and 7, and Underworld 1 and 2, every single RPG you play, forevermore, will be judged versus these games. There's simply no way to put into words as to why they are the best of the best, 30 or so years later. I'm not wearing rose colored glasses, either, as I played through Underworld 1 and Ultima 7 again, probably four or so years ago. The closest in quality to them a game has come would be Arx Fatalis.
Thanks for that post Blastman. It was a good read.

How's performance for you guys? Hearing horror stories (RTX 2080 Super on a 4K Monitor here)
Does it compare okay with other modern titles (Metro Exodus, Far Cry 5 etc.) or is it noticeable more demanding?
GARBAGE, i running low and med at 1440p to get around 34 to 42 fps and this is after editing the config file. only 1080p runs the game well over 60 but it looks garbage, im sure they shiped the wrong version on pc adn there is some presets to lower quality of assets at 1080p..... billboards becomes a unreadable at 1080p at distance where it is not at 1440p,less pixel doesnt do that to a image.
Speaking of Fallout, I sure hope Bethesda is taking notes on how to create some impressive looking wasteland and ruins scenery.
It looks quite good to me in Fallout 76. This game is almost recognizable from what it was on release day.

the problem is their overselled and cut a bunch of content, world building, the archteture is great, very cyberpunk, the pedestrians AI is what ruins it. Combat is very weak because its strictly tied to AI. i wouldnt say less immersive than GTA since GTA outside of minigames is not immersive, it is less dynamic and reactive than gta...in fact it is not reactive at all, from drivers to pedestrians....hell the police teleport all the imperial troops from the death star if you bump into a pedestrian near them, but a gang fighting or attacking you ?guess its above their pay grade. story seems good so far, and caracters are well done...but its not as interactive as they claimed. if you are fine with just doing missions, its okay, if you expected something else.....there is nothing there for you, there is a ridiculous amount of stuff cut, problably to fit last gen, that end up ruined the scope and the experience. my major issue right ouf of the bat ? as soon as you step out of your apartment there are 4 major vendoers in your building...sellings consumable products that are in your inventory....except for you.......you cant buy those itens from them.....and from their animation and the level of detail on some props, you can just tell they were suposed to.

The police being reluctant to engage the gangs issue can be partially explained by their being corrupt, and intimidated by them in some cases, that's Cyberpunk canon.
Other than that, you have to be careful about not pulling your weapon out outside of a combat situation, as well as engaging from too far away, depending on the circumstances. I've had only 2 or 3 fights where the cops bothered me, in my entire time playing so far.
I've now got nearly 15 hours in to the game. I'm having fun with it. I kinda like the combat. I've gotten in to some fun shootouts. The AI is not outstanding, but they put up a good fight. They use cover, throw grenades, use drones, hack, rush and dodge about. I have no problem with them being bullet sponges, and as I level up, my effectiveness improves as I'd expect. I started off thinking I'd go all stealth and cyber, but after a bit I found I was having enough fun with the gunplay to diverge off in to reflexes for the weapons perks. With rifles and SMGs both grouped together this felt like an efficient tree to climb. My build is sort of spread out at the mo, but having played a bit I can start to see how I'll enjoy playing and can start to focus a bit.
Chucky I have a Ryzen 2600, 1660Ti and 16 gigs. Runs well for me. As mentioned earlier I turned off a few things, like film grain and depth of field, but not sure how much effect it would have as far as performance. I did it more for the way it looks. My card is a Turing but it doesn't have some of the more advanced features like ray tracing. I turned FRAPS on to see what my framerate is but it didn't display for some reason. is there a built in counter? Whatever the number, it runs smoothly. If I had to guess I'd say I'm getting an average of around 50 fps. Quite smooth but at times I can tell it's not quite to the max. For such a modest box I'm happy with the way it runs for me. Matter of fact, the experience to this point has been almost trouble free. A few graphics glitches, but nothing else I've noticed.
I've done a little bit of most things. Some main story, some side missions, some gigs. Mostly though I've been playing neighborhood vigilante. Just walking around and taking down criminals and gang activity. It's sort of like GTA's gang attacks. Small groups of bad dudes that I can engage however I want, which pays pretty well, is good XP and street cred, and builds perk points fast. If my next main mission might be to meet Jackie 600m away or whatever, I'll just go there on foot and see what's around, getting in to gunfights along the way. Driving is really bad in the game. That's too bad, but a handling rework isn't out of the question I think. It's like driving on ice with a layer of sawdust over it lol. I'm using a controller and just cranked the sensitivity all the way down and the driving's not so bad this way, but it makes also looking around while in the car or on the bike way too slow as it's the same sensitivity setting. Pick your poison.
Not crazy about the loot system if I'm honest. You find a gun that does 65.8 DPS and the next battle a minute or three later, one that does 66.1 DPS and so it goes. As a result I am branching off in to tech too so I can use the crafting system, use the iconic weapons, and craft and upgrade weapons that will improve alongside me. Or that's the plan.
I feel vibes from a lot of other games in this one. After the early word I was worried about performance and bugs. After a handful of hours it's not that that's the issue. If there is one for me it's the fact that Cyberpunk turned out to be weakest with the thing I was hoping to be it's strength. And that's the interactivity of the world. I'm having enough of a good time with the game so far that doesn't bother me all that much. The set pieces are fun for me so far, the characters are interesting, the dialog is cool and the setting has a great vibe to it. I expected more yes, but there's enough of a good game here for me to have a lot of fun with it.
To achieve anything in this game you must be prepared to dabble in the boundary of disaster — Stirling Moss
The driving experience depends heavily on the vehicle, some are decent, some are extremely challenging to control.
There's a car chase mission where you're forced to pursue in one of the latter and its frustrating as hell!
I wish the mini map wasn't zoomed in so much so that you could anticipate the turns a bit, having the option to see your navigation lines outside of the map would help a lot also.

This kind of stuff drives me insane. I'm oldschool, in that a shotgun is a shotgun, a super shot gun is a super shotgun, a chaingun is a chaingun and a BFG is a BFG. They are all created equal in their class, no more, no less.
In case any of you are curious, the Steam Charts website currently shows these activity stats for Cyberpunk:

Turns out there's a config file that caps your GPUs RAM to what an XBOX or PS would have. I won't be able to test it myself until tonight, but here's the instructions:
Step 1 = Locate your game's main folder On steam right click on the game and click on properties then go to the Local Files tab and click on Broswe Local Files
Step 2 = If you are in the main game's Folder you should to see REDpreLauncher.exe locate the "Engine" Folder then "Config" and open "memory_pool_budgets.csv" via notepad or wordpad
Step 3 = Adjust Poolcpu's ammount Based on "Your maximum ram - 4 GB" then Adjust the PoolGPU's Ammount based on your Maximum Vram Amount.

As for driving one of the best cars to get around in is the Maimai P126 (little smart car looking thing). It's a bit slippery, but the short wheel base and small size lets you get around the city easily. It's certainly not fast, but because it can zig and weave through traffic so well it works better than any other car. A couple of the motorcycles are good for this as well. I agree with Crane on that minimap, it's so zoomed in that in high speed you cannot see your upcoming turn until you're at it.

already did that for me didnt improve magically like some users, maybe because i also edited another file to increase ram pool for objects, this made cars stop vanishing for me. all i got from that ram thing was a more stable use of gpu, as i didnt need to use dynamic res to get the same frames and faster loading times, it now takes 2 seconds to boot a save. best car for me in performance and handlings is one that looks like a old sport car or rally car.
So really, the bottom line is that we should expect multiple more patches for this game before all or at least most of the major issues are resolved.
