Just watched S1E1 of Mr Robot on Amazon.

Seems very, very good. Half-decent depiction of tech and coding, and the leading actor is very engaging. Not sure about Christian Slater in it, he seems the same as in everything else. Would have been better with an unknown IMO.

He has been in a few B movies with tongue in cheek satiric/comedic characters as of late, but this is was his latest starring role in a dramatic action movie.


Say what you want about the guy, but he can make a very entertaining action movie.

At least Lindsay Lohan didn't have that big of a career when she sabotaged it but Mel Gibson is a whole other story.

Most of it was boring!

Interstellar was more exciting.

Even Mission To Mars and Red Planet were more exciting.

Could had been a SyFy movie or some Cable TV movie.

Concerning low movie budgets, the budget for "Clerks" was a colossal $25,000 and Kevin Smith put it all on his personal credit cards.

Now that's what I call independent movie making.

For a low budget independent film I thought Open Water was well done. It was filmed over a two year period on weekends by a husband and wife production company. The actors had to commit to that time frame due to the couple working a week day job.

I don't remember the cost but it wasn't much. Most of the cost was traveling back and forth to the shooting location. The camera equipment wasn't very sophisticated from the documentary I watched and they edited it themselves on PCs with Adobe Premiere or a reasonable facsimile.

I can see the help wanted ad for the actors in an issue of Variety.

Do you like weekends in the Bahamas?
Are you SCUBA certified?
Can you commit to a two year production schedule?
Do sharks scare you?

Mr Robot thru Ep.7. One of the best things I've seen this year. Knocks Man in the High Castle into a hat. Great storytelling, characters and acting from relative unknowns (not so much Christian Slater who seems pretty much the same as in Robin Hood ).

Battle of the Bulge (1965)

I saw this film on VHS as a kid, I remember thinking 'cool tanks!'

From an adult perspective though, this film is awful. I can forgive a lot of old war films for inaccuracies or practical limitations such as using American tanks painted as Panzers, but this is just terrible. The plot is hard to follow and bears not even the slightest resemblance to reality and it's filmed in a desert. A desert!

When you hear Battle of the Bulge? do you picture a wintery Ardennes? Wrong! It was actually Tunisia all along.

"Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "Battle of the Bulge" are both atrocious movies.

Oh and "Battle of the Bulge" was shot in southern Spain so that explains the desert-like terrain.

Didn't those Leone - Eastwood spaghetti westerns also use Spain as a stand in for Mexico? Worked pretty well.

Yes, for those films the semi-arid setting of Spain worked great. During the 1950's and 1960's Spain was a very popular shooting spot for many Hollywood films.
