CloD can't hurt you any more, get over it, we are talking about the currently supported by it's devs last great hope for flight simulation BOS......it's not doing so great.

So look how CoD has evolved and improved. Low scores from the early launch days of these things are only so relevant. There's reviews of RoF that talk about its "poor" SP content. Now it's one of the best.

Improved thanks to talented modders. Something bos won't ever see. Do you post before thinking, or just say ignorant things on purpose?

Well there you go then, why don't you just sit back and relax and bask in the inevitable glory, you have just pointed out a natural process of things so you don't need to fight back so hard at the inevitable criticism.

Not bad for a failed release and no dev-support, i'd say.

The SP stuff with CoDs original release was crap. The best stuff only came later with third parties like Desastersoft.

I actually like CoD + Desastersoft. It's very good that way.

Ok only one more dig at it an I'll stop ;-)
Maddox spent $ putting clickable cockpits in all those planes and in SP there actually aren't any missions at all where you can cold start the planes!
Jeesh... You don't even get to cold start in hardcore Desastersoft. There's no way in SP unless you made a custom mission in the ME.

I only recently discovered there were people in CoD cause you have to turn them on in a config file. So all my airbases had empty vehicles.

CoD is just full of stuff that makes you go hmmmm

Mmm, not sure I would dub the ROF campaign one of the best. The Career mode ain't half bad though , and I certainly enjoyed it while I flew it. But it certainly has some weaknesses. But it was forever considered a " Beta Career", which would lead one to believe - well it is still just beta, they are still working on improving it. That did not happen though.

Imho, 1CGS really missed the boat for the long term SP folks, by not expanding on what they already had for ROF.
But based on some of Loft's comments, I don't think the harder core longer term SP guys are what he was looking for.

That is not what Zak posted that Loft said at all.
That's likely the current party-line spin but it's certainly not what was posted at the time.

Yes it is.. not word for word but I am looking right at it.. and that was the gist of it. Given the language barrier and the context of what was said.. I cannot quote the entire post because it has been locked by someone over my head and therefore I am not at liberty to quote the entire post verbatim however

I read it (and so did lots of other people) and it was not like that at all.
It was a hissy-fit and it was a threat that the project would be canned if people didn't rally behind BOS on Metacritic.
Jason had to firefight for days afterwards and apologised for the message coming out of Moscow.

You can't spin it into something it wasn't.

If I had an account on Metacritic (I didn't rally to the cry to praise the game, nor did I feel the need to trash it on Metacritic either), I'd give it a 5.

Looks pretty. Nice lighting and weather.

Nothing to do that could occupy me for more than the 5 or 6 hours I played before getting completely bored.

AI is no better than the old IL2 in that it frequently fails to take off and often crashes for no reason.

Predictable. AI behaviour in a dogfight means there's little challenge.
In fact the AI is BETTER in IL2 1946 in many situations.

And this is a single player simmer taking about BOS that was lauded as a single player focused game.

And based on the information that BOM is just maps and planes and nothing to improve the actual gameplay I find it hard to see how it would deserve any more than a 5 too.

You do realize development was ceased right? There was a lot of stuff, a ton of stuff, that needed addressing and fixing, that the team did not get to do. I don't think anyone here would argue that, everyone knows the team had a huge ambition, and ran into some major obstacles reaching that ambition. They wanted too much, they tried do too much. And they paid a price for it. Some lost their jobs. They were passionate, and wanted to give us so much. It cost them.
Move on.

Yes, Cliffs of Dover certainly has cold start abilities, all the mission/campaign builder has to do is design them that way. I have certainly flown user made campaigns that included cold starts.

The thread is about Battle of Stalingrad...

There's not a British skin on my 109 so BoS got that right at least.
The Zoom view isn't set to an assignable axis that's set to a combo mouse axis and button... cause that's useful... if you've got three hands.
It has a wonderful graphic effect called antialiasing too.
The ground vehicles aren't driven by invisible people.

FWIW the AI in IL2 .. unless something has changed in 4.3 which is always possible.. is very very good.. arguably on par if not better than anything in DCS, BoS or CoD.

Nobody forces you to use a british skin on the 109
if your eyes in real life can zoom there is a good chance you have 3 hands.
it doesn't have wonderful custom settings though
can't say I ever needed to worry about visible or invisible people in vehicles I get to see from hundreds of feet away.

So you're looking right at it and that's the 'gist' of it for those who can't see it because its conveniently hidden from public view. If it was such an innocuous comment why hide it? "oh but the haters will use it as ammunition" but if its such an innocuous post then it would be difficult not to read it other than the way you suggest surely? Or is it that your 'gist' is to use your own words someone using an 'agenda' to spin it positively? "trash the team" or be a socket puppet for the team? This is what Zak said and if you read it through it does more than suggest the "might as well shut it down" because he actually says:

In the quick missions your German planes get British skins. Maybe TF fixed it.

The zoom view is a vital feature in flight sims if you don't use labels. I don't like labels. TF fixed this and made is assignable I believe.

Apparently there are actually people you just have to enable them. Why it's this way I can't figure but supposedly this is how.

I saw that back then. It was a response to a bunch of hate attacks via Metacritic and followed another spam campaign which plastered hate rants on all sorts of random venues like forums which had nothing to do with sims (and which were obviously unmoderated) where this guy auto spammed his diatribes into hundreds of threads. Even my YouTube videos got spammed. So in light of all that can you blame Zak?
Maybe we should post a screenshot of all the hate rants on Metacritic that were removed.

If a game is so void of fun that I don't play it (which I don't with BoS) its a 0 for me. Just like if you gave me a Ferrari that had no wheels and was on blocks in my driveway it would do me no good and I would rate it a 0 no matter how cool it looked in my driveway.

If BoS had some kind of decent single player campaign(s) whether made by 1CGS or the community, then I would immediately change my score from a 0 to an 8 in the case of BoS.

Yes, the AI is really really good in IL-2 1946 now, at least in 4.12.1m which is the version I'm running. I forget when they fixed it...maybe 4.11 or something like that. (maybe as far back as 4.10). thumbsup

There's a difference between hate attacks and a whole bunch of pissed off customers. Based on the vacating of members on the BoS forum and the BoS player abandonment rate on Steam there are a whole lot of people out there that really don't like BoS.

I don't understand the correlation between hate attacks and dissatisfied angry customers who can't get a refund who are expressing their views. That can be a pretty common phenomenon with any product release that doesn't go over well. Yet is seems to be blasphemy in the minds of BoS supporters in this case.

I worked for a major company, and when we blew a product release we didn't call all the complaints hate attacks. We went back to the drawing board and asked ourselves how could we have gotten it so wrong and tried to fix it or get it right the next time. We viewed it as our fault, not the customer's fault. BoS can't fail because of the customers. It can only fail because of the producers.
