The November Man.
A solid if unremarkable spy thriller with Pierce Brosnan playing a jerk quite different from his Bond past.
Worth the 2 hours to watch, but not to pay to see.

Judging by its box office performance the vast majority of people agree with you!

I don't think it did.

IMDB has a January 2015 release but no box office earning information.

I am glad I am finding some of these crappy movies on the net for free.

I may be out 2 hours of my time but I am not out $.

Why would Bruce Willis even bother starring in a movie that didn't even have a wide box office release? It just makes no sense to me. I can understand unknown starving actors doing these kinds of films but not someone as well known as Willis.

It's a job. He doesn't get that many anymore.



The Jedi Master

The usual thing is an actor gets offered a role,
and signs on. The contract can often leave him at
the mercy of the production company - there are
plenty of stories of actors having scripts changed
on them, or films edited into something completely
different, without their ability to have any input.
Usually, unless they have lots of clout, they can't
have any influence on the disposition of the final
product - to prevent release of something is pretty
much impossible. They try to select a good project
based on a good script, and a good group of people
doing the production. Then they do their job, go
home, and hope for the best.

Then the production studio makes decisions about how
to distribute the result. They may decide the film
is unmarketable, and write it off - there are stories
of multimillion dollar embarrassments languishing in
film vaults - or they release with anything from no
promotion, direct to DVD, to major theatre placement.

The actor can only choose what to do based on paycheque,
or artistic interest, but preferably with an eye to
what it can do for their professional stature.
Sometimes signing on to a riskier production can
result in a great performance, and things work out
great; and sometimes what looks like a good idea
crashes and burns.

Excellent post PV. That might explain certain oddities like Robert DeNiro starring in a Rocky & Bullwinkle live action film or Michael Caine starring in Jaws 4.

I'm going to go out an a limb and state that neither of those actors felt those films appealed to their artistic interest or that they would contribute to their professional stature at that stage of their careers.

Been OD'ing on MeTV lately watching M*A*S*H, The Andy Griffth show, Star Trek, Gilligan's Island, etc. All the shows I grew up with.

I dunno. I recall reading somewhere something about how
DeNiro felt at one point that always playing the heavy
dramatic parts, inhabiting those dark spaces, was getting
to be a drag, and he wanted to get considered for lighter
roles, so he ventured into areas he wasn't familiar with,
perhaps not choosing wisely, but with a definite intent.
He was by this time far past needing to consider the paycheque
in any significant way.

As to Caine, I've heard him described as one of those
guys with a need to work, not for the money, but just
to be working, like a deep working class work ethic.
He has one craft he has mastered, and he likes to be
out using it. As to his choices, I have no idea.
Perhaps he wasn't getting a lot of offers. I have
read of others with that attitude - I'm an actor, I act,
I don't really pay a lot of attention to what it is,
I do my part. Michael Rennie was noted for having that
attitude, as I recall.

Watched "Balance of Terror" last night. This is easily one of the top 10 episodes from ST:TOS. Mark Lenard was great and his performance really pulled off the difficult task of making the Romulan commander sympathetic even though he was the enemy.

I watched Foxcatcher Tues, it was so boring, I held on kept waiting for it to get better. I honestly don't get how it had 5 Oscar nominations. Yes Steve Carell's makeup was amazing because I had no clue it was him, but the movie was just slow and boring.

Not sure how I managed to see it through to the end but I did.Probably suit the younger generation better.

Score (as an adult) 2/5 and that's being generous.

Never even heard of that movie. I don't think it had a theatrical release in the US.

That film must have been a "hey it's a paycheck" project for both Kingsley and Anderson.

That's what I was thinking Panzer.It was a low budget movie,$21 million I think.Somehow they managed to shoe-horn a twin seat Spitfire into it.

Been around from time to time but I haven't had much to contribute. Just about everyone has moved on to new gaming pursuits and most of the topics generated in CH involve subject matter I am not able to contribute to either.


I agree, it was a great episode.
This episode was his first character on the series. Next he was Spock's father and then in the movies he ended up playing a Klingon. One of, if not the only actors to portray all three major Aliens in the Star Trek universe.
