Sounds like fun Eno!

An unusual formation flight happened in the firehouse tonight after most people left:

The Ka-50 is just a hair too slow, however. The fastest it can go is slightly above 160 knots, so the A-10 very gradually floated past.

At that speed I was getting the left/right engine power limit cautions, the yellow low rotor rpm warning, and the red TOO MUCH FUN!! warning (airspeed limit, aka rotor intersection eminent). Fun fact: the low rotor RPM and the IAS max warnings are very loud - especially the IAS warning - and having heard them both combined while wearing a headset I probably now require hearing aids.

The IAS warning came on around 280 km/h but like any rational person I ignored it and pushed to over 300 km/h. 302 km/h comes out to about 162 knots according to F10 view. It is an awesome sight to fly rotor to wing with an A-10! copter

Oh and Eno, we overflew each town but were unable to locate the last remaining unit(s). I don't know if we're blind or if the trigger is broken. Is there any way for you to look it up? I'm curious.

EDIT: Crew, on the iShot mission, Red KA-50s are traffic cones again. Just an FYI.

I must admit I had the most fun in there that I'd had in a long time yet the only time ordinance left the bottom of the aircraft (I made a few gun runs) was when I jettisoned everything while trying to limp back to Suk-bab after bingo-ing out. I landed with a comfortable 100 lbs left so I don't know what the crew chief was so upset about. I think he was choked since the first time I'd landed in the mission I came back with a bit less than 400 lbs.

I did review the tacview file and can confirm that part of the mission was completed. The only reason it didn't move forward was I'd lumped that objective in with the huey's depositing troops within Pits. If I'd been thinking about that I may have suggested you bring in a Huey with troops to wrap it up properly instead of the KA50 to fight over that last tank... hindsight I guess.

On the go forward I'll change it so that's a separate objective- or at least prompt that the forces are destroyed and that is the remaining step.

I ended up taking on the role of airborne JTAC and had 3 A-10Cs to work with and Snipor as well indirectly. It was a lot of fun just circling above while everyone else was coming in or rearming... I could circle safely from a distance and at high altitude to see into the trees and pick out targets. I would create a markpoint on every cluster of targets I found.

Then, when I had someone check in I could give them a target letter identifier (the markpoint letter) and assign it. Snipor was in the KA50 and I would hand him the coordinates of my markpoint and assign him "target Mike."

Next time I would have a notepad with me (I can't use grease pencil on my monitor) so I could be better organized (I sort of stumbled on this technique while I was up there and refined it throughout the mission). Once someone had reported their targets were destroyed, I would pass them another markpoint location, get them to describe it to me, then move on to manage other aircraft or keep looking. If I found something new, I could verify my TGP location and existing markpoints to ensure it hadn't already been assigned and mark it if needed.

I was also trying to keep everyone "racked and stacked" to help deconflict the airspace. It's funny how chilling it can be to hear that other aircraft go past close aboard... but last night it felt a bit different since guys were separated by about 1000 feet. Sure, people drifted in and out and it got a bit sloppy (me included) when we started gun-running a pesky tank that nobody seemed to be able to hit or lock up.

Anyway... great fun!

Thank You for the heads up sb --

The Ka-50 skins in place when you were in iShot were 'DOSAAF'. I don't have the Black Shark so can't test it (Russian a/c -- pitue :-) )

The old 'Demo #024' skin was the original orange, so I had changed them out to the DOSAAF version some time ago.

Tonight I changed them all to the 'fictional olive grey', so hopefully it is cleared up.

Before Eno started being our airborne JTAC, we formed up waiting for another pair of A-10s to join the party. As far as distributing targets to the awaiting Hogs, it went great with only some minor hiccups. A very enjoyable new experience to say the least!

This recent patch seems to have done something to bugger my installation - DCS runs fine once I get it going but the launcher crashes out more often then not as does DCS.exe (when starting MP). If it starts, all is well. Frustration..... banghead

I've found there are some times when I'm loading where it enters a "is not responding" stage and if I click on it it crashes... but if I leave it alone all is well.

On occasion it has taken 20 seconds or so to load- but not often.

sound the same or does it literally crash out on its own?

does it create a crash log for you? What about the dcs.log- any hints as to what's causing the issue?

It doesn't run for more then one minute when it crashes. Sometimes the launcher works, and then it crashes when going to MP - because that is when DCS.exe actually starts. All the errors are listed as access violations caused by DCS.exe or launcher.exe_DCS.

If the sim actually starts I have an issue where my cursor is stuck as the windows loading circle. This was not present as an issue before the crashes. I have backed up configs etc and deleted DCSW off my drive and told Steam to re-download it. Steam's Verify Game files found no issues.

DCS's logs don't have any useful information, it shows the usual startup information "blah blah loaded successfully" and stops at a timestamp of ~55 seconds.

I have successfully re-downloaded 9.0GB at this time. When the download completes we'll see. Estimate is 10 minutes till completion.

-------EDIT------

Most of the time it crashes before it even makes any form of a log. However, I have noted this is often the last line (and only error) listed:

00006.862 ERROR VFS: Can't mount './Bazar/World/textures/MQ-9 Raeper_textures' to '/textures/'.

IF it starts and I get to the MP menu, then go to return to the main menu it crashes with only this line as an error:
00007.520 ERROR DXGUI_EDGE_RENDER: Cannot load texture ' '

Did you upgrade to 127 or do a clean install? (Originally)

Steam updated to 1.2.7 and patched. All was fine until yesterday - and today it doesn't want to work at all. I have just finished wiping it off and re-installing it which solved nothing..... I have also looked for DirectX updates but it seems I am up to date. The only thing to note is there have been some windows updates so I am going to check what those are and see if it may be the cause.

----EDIT------

Windows Update looks not to be at fault. Here is the info from when DCS crashes as per windows. This seems to be the same each time.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: dcs.exe (sometimes launcher.exe_DCS)
Application Version: 1.2.7.23803
Application Timestamp: 52f48b5c
Fault Module Name: StackHash_1cd3
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 000000000a8b0084
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 4105

Additional Information 3: 81df
Additional Information 4: 81df99709ff1db9fc6fae4de7e6fe426

----FOUND SOMETHING------

Note this error code:
00006.862 ERROR VFS: Can't mount './Bazar/World/textures/MQ-9 Raeper_textures' to '/textures/'.

The KEY may be the typo of Raeper vs. Reaper (the filename is spelled correctly) maybe it's looking for the typo and can't find it? I am going to change the file name and see.

Well much frustration later and problem solved in the oldest and simplest trick in the book- reboot the damn computer. Another application may have had some funky memory usage issue that conflicted with DCS? Who knows. Either way, started up DCS - switched to MP and back, shut down and repeated 5 times in a row with no issues.

My final thoughts: ..................................................

Looks as though a "wrecking crew" came through here..... Only now am noticing the bullet hole in the turrets after they're done burning--pretty cool!
