I don't remember if Cathy was supposed to have been known Jack during his recovery or not, TBH. I mean, she went into ophthalmology so I'm not sure there would've been any real crossover there.

I don't find ScarJo to be all that attractive TBH.

It's been quite a while since my last Clancey novel - maybe Patriot Game or Clear and Present Danger. I read all up to that point. For some reason that story line in the movie resonated, but can't be sure. Maybe she was in the same hospital and she caught Jack's attention. Oh well, thanks.


Speaking of movies. I went to the 4:45 show. $11.00 2D standard screen. Okay I know prices have gone up. Went to the snack stand to get the obligatory popcorn. The bag was 6 inches by nine inches by 2.5 inches. Wanna guess how much it was?









$7.00. SEVEN DOLLARS! Are they F**KED? I told the concessionaire to forget it. WOW! I like Jack Ryan but I'd like it just as much on DVD. It's getting to be that movies aren't worth it unless they are a visual spectacle and add to the experience by being seen on the large screen.

Oh no you didn't. I was hoping for something.... anything to happen when I saw that. The funniest thing in the movie was the smoking tree.

I rarely get concessions when I'm at the movie theatre. Sorry but I'm not paying a 300% mark up for crap.

The editing for language didn't help it any.

I thought the parrot scene at the beginning was pretty funny and creative.

I worked at movie theaters as usher, box office ticket cashier, concessionaire, chief of staff, assistant manager. general manager.

My second job when I was a senior in High School in 1982, after working at Burger King, was at a brand new 8 screen movie theater.

I started there as a concessionaire and when I left to go to the Police Academy 4 1/2 years later, I was an assistant manager.

My job after leaving the police department in 1993 was at a prestigious 3 stories movie theater with marble floors and elevators and multi-level parking garage. I was the General manager.

We were one of the few theaters in the country to have the THX Dolby Stereo sound system and we were also used for the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound system testing before it was installed in our theater and selected theaters across the country for Jurassic Park.

I was there for 3 years until I left to start my own business as a Real Estate Broker.

I can tell you the gross stories about how they make their food and what they do with it.

The markup on concessionaire 'food' is ridiculous.

Do you know they make their money by the popcorn bag and soda drink cup not by the content of them, the popcorn and soda.

Next time you go to the movie theater, ask if you can have an empty soda drink cup.

See what they tell you!

You still have to pay full price for an empty soda drink cup.

The theater only get about 30% of the $12 you paid for the movie ticket on that brand new movie.

The other 70% goes to the movie studio as a rental and exhbition fee for that theater's right to show that movie.

I thought the industry standard was closer to 50/50 when it came to the studio and the theatre chain dividing up the ticket proceeds?

I've always understood though that the theatre chains made most of their revenue from concessions since the ticket proceeds were split.

Some movies even 80% to the studio during the first few weeks of their first run.

Just saw Wolf of Wallstreet last night, good movie but a tad bit long like everyone else mentions. Leonardo was awesome in this and the hot new blonde, Margot Robbie is smoking hot....

Leo DiCaprio still amazes me with how much he's grown as an actor since his early days.

I watched Django (again) last night. DiCaprio was just brilliant in that.

no kidding, I remember him in Blood Diamond, thought he was really good in that. A long way from Growing Pains...

The ticket split with the theater is based on numerous factors and is not fixed. Early bits of a run are in the studios' favor, later in the theaters'. I worked at one 20 years ago while I was in college. I remember the manager saying they made a lot of money on Forrest Gump because when the Oscar noms came out people went to see it who hadn't before and by then they were making more than half the ticket price, while in the early run they were making only 35 cents on the dollar or so.


I went to see Desolation of Smaug and bought a soda there for the first time in a few years. It was $5!! Literally I can get a 2 liter bottle at Publix on a buy 1-get 1 free sale for $2 (so $1 per bottle) but this 20-something ounce cup was $5! It was 50% the ticket price!!

Won't be doing that again unless I win the Lotto.
