Okay blind- thanks.

I went in and edited out all the randomizing on the Day 1 operations so that should add some reliability. I've done it in such a way that I can re-implement it when it's fixed. Gosh I can't wait until that happens- the things I've learned to do with some of the functions is really exciting.

Also- Blind... I'm hearing what you're saying and in my efforts to cater to those who like the more realistic side of things I should take equal steps to accommodate the guys who don't have the same amount of time. I'll put some warm starts at Gudauta with various platforms throughout the campaign.

Hollo Pointe on Win8.1 was running fine this morning, but the DCS server had a Can't Connect To Master message.

---

Ping Plotter continues to show a Qwest node with ~10% packet loss (my ISP is Century Link -- the old Qwest). Tomorrow I have a day off work so I'll call Century Link and complain.

Is there a way I can force a new path from my house to Hollo Pointe? Change a DNS setting or something?

The actual distance between the computers is about 12 miles, but the route goes through Louisiana.

Eno...

I think it would help improve mid-week playability for those of us who really only get a few hours every couple nights to fly.

Will you put the mission back up tonight? I should be around again to fly it.

Unfortunately, no. DNS is only for the translation is URLs and other resource locaters into IP addresses. The route is defined by the infrastructure. The only way to change it would be to move.

However on the top of DNS, if anyone does have DNS issues - I suggest using Google's public DNS servers:

Probably won't be the same one- I've got others that need a quick trial run too.

Well... one thing that has become clear watching the AI duke it out during the invasion is that if I don't give the aircraft a reason to slow it down and be careful there's no way the offensive will be complete. The idea is that the offensive should be successful... I want blue to be close, but in the end the Georgians should end up completing their tasks. They'll occupy the areas they're going to occupy- and the campaign moves forward.

I am building a couple night missions where the Geos are going to be moving their equipment under cover of darkness into staging areas for the next daytime mission. These missions are relatively simple in that there aren't a lot of triggers- but I'm planning on running them at nights just to add some mood. Guys want to go up there and stalk the Geos in the dark... open season boys.

Also- I think I'm going to take the "pause while empty" off for the campaign so we're not all dog piling on the Geos from the very beginning. I'll have it configured so that things happen over a longer period so you don't really know where you're at. I'm trying to go in and post occasional updates on the situation... so every 30 minutes or so an announcement of what phase of the operation you're in comes up. That takes some time to get all the different conditions... but I'm going to try.

I've done some things to "help" keep people from being blown out of the sky with my introduction of a bit more ADA...

A couple of hints- in the event you're in there with some others:

a) SA8s are tucked away and will be hard for the A-10s to track down. This is for a reason- and SU25Ts will be required to isolate that. If there aren't any... either keep your distance or go on the hunt (but keep your distance)
b) SA9s are out there- however they are "working closely" with Shilka units... so basically if you're getting pinged by a Shilka, there's probably an SA9 nearby so if you find one, slew your TGP around a bit and you'll find the other.

Eh guys- thanks to those of you who came in and helped me square away some things I was blind to from staring at them for the last week.

Phase / Day 3 and 4 went pretty well overall but I did manage to fix a few things that some of you may want to report if I didn't acknowledge them now.

1) There is a training site at the northern edge of the map in some templates. These spots are clearly marked (TRAINING) and more than 200nms away from the action. This was for people who are new-ish... want to be involved in the overall but don't quite want to step into the mission. It's put in there as a template for later use and can be disregarded. I thought it was obvious but actually had someone come in last night in a rather snobby fashion say "why do we need to fly the choppers 200nms to the action?" Anyway- I'm amazed this even came up but given that it did maybe it wasn't quite obvious enough so I'm mentioning it here. Day 4 doesn't currently have choppers given that the environment is quite hostile and not friendly to choppers. KA50s may end up there- but that's it.

2) Rockets / Grad strikes every 15 minutes or so... these should have been artillery and this is fixed.

3) The SA11 convoy departed prematurely and got killed by insurgents along its route. This has been fixed though it was pretty cool to watch it go down as a spectator.

4) The attack trigger was completely wrong- and I didn't realize how badly until I went in this morning to fix it. It was all over the place. Again, the idea is you should be able to put a dent in it but they should eventually win out. I'm somewhat restricted in how to do this since we can only field so many AI at a time.

5) The KA50 skins hadn't been adjusted... so they were out in their red and white motif. Fixed.

6) The waypoints... when I moved the spots up by request I hadn't noticed the waypoints got totally mangled. Fixed.

Interesting post here about the SA8s and why the ARMs seem so inconsistent. Judging by the radio traffic I've heard about the issue during the missions, I think this may be a valid issue:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1929563&postcount=192

On an additional note... some of you may have noticed the collection of aircraft up in the ANAPA region- these aircraft are marked "TRAINING" in the Campaign.

You'll see a series of waypoints- but some of you may not be able to see what the waypoints are guiding you to.

Basically the thought was sometimes guys come in and want to fly... test out systems, controls... new aircraft (tanking, when it works again)- whatever. So basically what I've done is created a new mission template that has a training ground built in. Problem is- if you don't have the weapons range file loaded, you won't be able to see the structures!

Anyway- the file can be found here:

Cougar just build an interesting gunnery / score keeping script which can be found here:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1929733#post1929733

I thought this might be a nice future opportunity for a fly in skills competition down the road or maybe you guys have some ideas where this may come in handy.

That was fun but more!

I was rammed and disabled by a bus.. A BUS! The most humiliating thing ever! Ok one of those random civi models as a basis collision model. Usually if you land on a road they just go right threw you. Except this one stupid BUS>

Keep in mind, flash-

The Georgians are driving around in civilian vehicles (as mentioned in the briefing)- the one that hit you was actually a part of the bigger picture... These vehicles are roaming around the countryside delivering troops and starting firefights all over the AO.

Anyway, the one that hit you was actually a mission object, with a route and a task. I suppose in some respects it's good that you hit it... some Abbies can live to fight another day.

Well AMRAAM's are pretty much useless; fired one at a -29 from within 10nm (Locked on, shoot que and the rest) and it didn't guide at all (did some very random maneuvre's); target was coming in straight and level.

2 disconnects last night..... Gave up after the second. Its a real mongrel, flying for 40+ minutes to just end up disco'ed

Had fun evading a jet that was hunting me down. Put a couple of rounds in me, but I found a little hidey hole to lick my wounds when he passed by.

Not sure if I was splatted by the same jet on egress back to farp or if some ground units got me that weren't there previously. Hopefully they didn't spawn in behind me.

Good fun last night.

Suggestion for the Day 4 mission (I think it's day for on Firehouse where you have to hunt the building SAM sights): We managed to track down the Northern convoys and Mi-8's but still couldn't locate the radar site. Maybe a few Ka-50's to call into the area to do a better sweep/recon of the area? I was winding it very hard to fly the A-10C amongst the valleys, look and keep an eye on how close I was getting to Suk-Bag :-).

Big thanks to Gordo who was very patient in talking my eyes onto target. I picked up the Mi-8 when it left Suk-Bag but lost it when I had to manouver and ended up masking my TGP. Gordo walked me into the area and was very patient with his lost and blind teammate :-)

Hi Fridge, I was on your six in an A10c for a lot of that mission. Turned into a real fuel management exercise! lol

Lots of fun even though my massive load of ordnance never got used.

Fair idea Fridge- also perhaps a little more specific information. I mean, I had a vague idea of the possible sites and I couldn't find it either. I don't want to make it EASY... but I don't want to make it hopeless either. By the time I got back last night the mission had crashed out.

I was trying to replicate one of the stories in A-10s over Kosovo where they were looking for this one radar site... but it was something they were taken off other tasks to go find. It took them quite awhile to find it so it requires patience.

So what I think I need to do is make that part of a bigger mission- have it as a secondary task alongside some other mission so once the area is safe and guys want to go look for it, they can... but it isn't the only task.

To be fair it also helps to get the JTAC in the area sooner so he can see the choppers flying over his position and track its location.

I like the idea of a these coop campaigns. It is just to bad that they require a human to set the mission and not really automatically progress when victory condition is met.

They actually can be configured that way but a mission builder spends so much time trying to make everything work, stitching the triggers together so that certain missions advance with certain aspects taken into consideration- that takes some extra time.

I got a bit of a late start on the peach pit- so it's not as refined as it will be in the near future... with win and loss conditions leading to different missions.

^^^ The S'paign campaign does this. The five missions in it will run until Red wins mission #1 in the west at Kobuleti or Blue wins the 5th mission at Tbilisi.

Now,,, if the server can just stay up.

We had server stops on Hollo Pointe, too. Friday night, Zesti Highway stopped after 4-5 hours but Blue was on the victory path so I advanced the mission to Gori Gap. Then on Saturday, about 1 1/2 hour into Tbilisi Thunder the server stopped again and I restarted that mission. That's not toooo bad, but that's relative. Server, and Client, crashes SUCK.

My Client disconnects often when a mission does the Load Mission event on the server. With the Fly-In over this w/e I will upgrade my Client to Win8.1, and if still issues then I will start posting my Client logs to DCS; this happens a lot on the short Huey Apocalypse mission.

BTW, raven got the Huey pilot's targeting reticle working. That helps biggrin
