Generally, what would you guys think would be the longest "ferry" flight you could endure? I guess around 120 miles is my limit... anyone else?

Thanks X-ray... it's a start.
I have been working a lot on Full Throttle- I'm learning and getting a bit more courageous with the mission editor. Still learning, and still a bit chicken... but things are really coming together.
I noticed in the ME that I hadn't set quite a few of the units to late activation... so I'm sure that was choking some folk's FPS.
Been experiencing more crashes lately but I'm hoping the Windows 8 install (generously offered by Crew) will help me pull that together. HP has been more reliable than the FH... from what I can tell. I'm submitting the error reports in the DCS World Bugs / Game Crashes section.
And Wheel- 680s in SLI... yikes. That's some serious power. Unfortunately, the stuff we're dealing with is some pretty deep rooted graphical inefficiency... and you need a disproportionate amount of horsepower to overcome it.

It really depends on the type of mission at hand. I love long flights, meeting up with orbiting tankers, flying in or out of different weather systems. Also, transitions from night to day or the opposite. I think these flights work best when you're flying with others. I could see the logistics two ways: - Using the "one life to live" mentality with everyone starting together - Utilizing schedules for flights of respawning teammates. If I have someone to fly with, I'd gladly do 120-150 miles.

Progress on the second of the five campaign missions last night. Getting close to wrapping that one up. Most all the triggers are in place, need to add in the aircraft. Eno, No, I have not started using MIST - have been able to accomplish everything with traditional trigger logic. When are you planning to install Win 8? --- Something to be said about the flag scheme I use - I can build the first set of events to set Is Dead flag, and Activate Next Group, and trigger other actions. After the first set of events are done I can clone each event and change the description to the second group and change just the group number in the new flags, then move to the third group, rinse and repeat. What is great about this, is that it is easy to catch any mistakes, if I forget to change a previous flag's group number then it is obvious because the group numbers across events are not sequential. Once all the events are done, I can step down through the events and do a good visual check on all the flag values. This scheme is dependent upon a good group naming convention. I do preface my group names with Blue or BLF, and Red or RDR, in order to separate the coalitions in the Unit List window. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwHk38uryutrekNQMVh5Q3hrYXc/edit?usp=sharing--- I figure that a 120 mile flight in an A-10C will take about 50 minutes, at 230 MPH. Hey it's almost the weekend! What (combat mission ) should we fly tonight on Hollo Pointe? WC

Stuck in the mud again. Gelen is a tough one to land at - with the short runway and down slope. M4 is up! Happy Friday Night! I need to stop sticking my nose into things... ...heard the rear tire pop as I was trying to break on the gravel road after overshooting the runway - WC

That airfield is really weird and I think you need to hit it at an approach speed of over 130 otherwise you blow a tire almost every time. Makes it tougher to slow down so you need to land very short- I know Tom from LOF was saying there was an issue with some of the airfields and how they were programmed into the game... it sure seems like Gelen is one of those. Considering we come in completely empty and almost out of fuel- there is no way it should be bursting as frequently as it does.

I've been having a lot more success landing at Gelen since I started raising the flaps on touchdown. Just landed there now flying M4 on the Hollo Pointe server... but had to take off sharpish as the Reds were firing TOWs into the place^^ I've also been really enjoying emergency landing practice. Did a really nice single-engine manual reversion landing this morning... if you haven't tried it, it's a nice way to learn some of the emergency systems! (the hard way )

I n hot with GBU-12 in CCIP mode. There was a car under the black square and I only had a 12 left for a weapon, for the last mission in Bactria, which was to find and destroy a car and van. Luckiest shot I ever made.

I just dont get it, I can run Bioshock:Infinite ain super Ultra on a 46" TV and running 2 other monitors and get 100+FPS but this game is such a POS code wise that 2xGTX 680's in SLI cant even #%&*$# out 30fps.

I know Wild... it's a bit exhausting to contemplate exactly how disproportionate the requirements are just to get a playable experience at high levels of detail.
I cringe every time I put any number of units to kill in a mission because the smoke devastates frames in certain conditions. In my SOS Save our Smoke thread over at ED we seem to have been able to narrow it down to when units are destroyed in narrow passes and AI gets congested trying to pick its way through. So it's not JUST smoke- it's the AI data clogging up the network as they try to negotiate the obstructions.
You have one of the most potent machines I've seen and I'm amazed you are still experiencing the same problems as the rest of us.
I Was flying around on my days off, kind of enjoying the ability to join up with you guys... and yet though I was trying to put a happy face on the whole experience, I was suffering crippling frames, screen ripples with my TIR5- not to mention more than normal crashes and disconnects. Every time a few units were destroyed my frames were cut almost in half... above and beyond already poor frames.
I'm trying hard to make the missions run more efficiently by minimizing the number of units on screen or in view at any one time.
Of course, I need to make a FEW exceptions-
I do have my laptop at work but I'm on nights and I can't plumb through the work network to game... and I'm not sure I have the data on my cell phone to connect through that. I've logged into the server to check on things a couple times and my ping was 300+ so it really isn't an option. When I'm on day shift it'll be easier because I can join up when I'm in my room in the evening.
Nice thing is I can work on the missions from here- load them through teamviewer, reopen them on the server, save them in that mission editor... and allow for constant improvements.
A couple of things I've noticed on the server while auditing the logs:
1) A lot of "Team Hit" occasions in the chat log. You guys probably don't know they're happening because the event notifications have been turned off. I think we're "casual" enough that we can run with the event viewer turned on... and we can turn it off in our locked events or "One life to live" events. There are simply too many transient players in the open concept that appear to have been causing trouble without you guys even knowing. I thank you for trying it out but I'm going to go ahead and turn the event viewer back on. There are too many disadvantages versus the limited realism advantages. 2) I've seen a lot of screenshots in the log... Don't forget to share in the stories involved in their capture!
I hope you guys are all doing well with things outside of the sim... We've got some pretty exciting changes going on over on this end at work and I'm pretty stoked about the possibilities.
Would there be any interest in having the tacview files from the server computer uploaded to a GDRIVE with a link on the first page? Just wondering as it's very easy to do.

Hey Turk,
I was having this complaint a month a ago as I am running a GTX 690, which is 2 680 GPUs on one board. I researched it on the ED forums and it seems DCS has low support for sli systems. When I use softTH to force full screen on 2 monitors, I was getting 20 fps. If I left it in windowed mode the sli performed better and allowed me to get up to 60 to 80 fps. I also don't use helios anymore because I switch planes so much, it was kind of a hassle for me. I'm at a point where I had to stop treaking and just play the sim and enjoy it as is.
Hopefully once the F/A-18C comes out, ED could spend some time optimizing the code. At some point they are going to have to introduce support for multi core processors, sli / crossfire, and direct x 10 or 11. So much good hardware out there that would really help dcs run smoothly, but it's bottlenecked by the software. Maybe the 64 bit only decision will push it in the right direction.

I have noticed that when you drop ordinance on a column and the immediately go into a defensive static posture and spread out, frames are a bit better. When the Air tries to drive thru wreckage it gets goofy. I used to drop cbu's on bridges to bottleneck for max effect but I think that makes the ai worse. That one night I had all the columns crossing Zug stuffed Ina 2 kilometer stretch of road, that's when I dropped like 10 cbu97's in a nice little row along the road....

Eno I have noticed that for past several weeks the kill notifications have been off is this because fog of war is off? Last night I was flying a ka-50 near Zugdidi bridge and was hit by two missles. I spent a lot of time searching the area and felt very comfortable in the area I was flying. Anyway I believe it might have been a team kill situation but there is no way to know for sure without the kill notifications up.
I checked the pool but there is no occurrences there either. How does one know what he is killed by?

I turned them off a long time ago and said so in the thread- but this moves so fast you might have missed it. I also recently mentioned that I was going to turn them back on again for exactly that reason. They are back on as of last night. Skim back in the thread a few posts and you'll see where I talk about what I had intended to accomplish versus what I ended up observing through the log audits. I think you were team killed- and actually I think a few people were... I had forgotten for a bit there that you guys couldn't tell- so when I saw the "team hit" entries in the log I just figured you guys were sorting it out on TS3. Then I saw multiple team hits last night (well, night before last) and I figured out what was happening. I've subsequently turned the notifications back on. There is also some VERY promising discussions going on about smoke HERE: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=103078&page=9Worth a read.
