What are these long ECM pods? Looks like 2 stuck together. Not sure how old the photo is but they are A's aren't they? Is that an earlier pod?

Those are C models, you can tell by the vents forward of the Ladder Door.
We still carry that ECM pod at Moody, pilots hate it because it drastically reduces the G load they are allowed to pull. I'm not a "pointy head" so I don't know the difference between ECM pods.

Those are C models, you can tell by the vents forward of the Ladder Door. Ah right, I couldn't see the little 'T' on the spine behind the cockpit so thought they may be A's

So they are an older version? Thanks all Nope, the ALQ-184 is actually newer than the ALQ-131, although both have been upgraded throughout their service life. It is also regarded to be more effective than the ALQ-131, and it also produces less aerodynamic drag. As to exactly how and when it's more effective than the ALQ-131, that's the sort of of stuff you have to live with not knowing. Both are self protection jammers using the same range of techniques though, so the differences in performance are likely to be subtle and very technical.

You see a normal guess would have been that an ALQ-184 supercedes the ALQ-131 but after the whole GBU bomb numbering fiasco I wasn't going to fall for it  lol
