JonnyD -
You can make SPIs and send them to your flight members by hooking their a/c on the TAD. I suggest to all that you try the EXP1 and EXP2 modes of the TAD; make the TAD the SOI and press China Hat Forward Short.

At night you can use your IR Pointer, which can be seen from quite a distance. But the enemy can see that, too.

I practiced this with a couple of guys on the server - Hatch and a.n.other who talked me through the procedure - but I forgot since.

I was thinking of when a JTAC on the ground, but never mind - I'll find out by doing, no doubt. I'm wondering just how difficult it is going to be as a ground based JTAC, to get a good overview of the enemy positions without getting fragged.

I wish there was a bit more info in the CA manual - I know it's a beta, but I feel there's a lot left to finding out yourself.

I say it as I see it

We've been getting over this issue (stacked AI and unrealistic abilities) by making the JTAC vehicles invisible. This makes them invisible to AI- not to human players...

This SOUNDS off balance because a person can just walk into an enemy position at leisure- but having enemy CA spots available ensures that the potential of "HUMAN" opponents appearing in the position will prevent people from doing so. The idea is that JTAC vehicles will still make an effort to conceal themselves from human opponents while not having to worry about the fact that AI can magically engage and destroy vehicles that are not even in view through trees ETC.

shadylurker,
Thanks for the note - I fixed the Russian Ka-50s in 104th_Moa's Operation Rampant Bear. The skins were changed from the problem Demo #24 to the 'Fictional Olive Grey'.

The mission name/version is now:
104th_Moa's Operation Rampant Bear 122v3a.miz

I put some pics into Shirley's Cross and the .miz went to >7MB and took a long time to load.

I removed the pics from the mission briefing and the file size went down to ~>5MB.

Then I did the zip thing and took out the embedded mission and the file size went to 166KB. Scheesh.

So now I will rev it again, Save it, and then ... geez what a hassle.

--- edit ---
I am also changing the default screen shot extension for DCSW from .png to .jpg and the pic file size will be much lower - from .png @ 1MB to .jpg 289KB.

So why does adding two .png files of 1MB increase the .miz file size to over 7MB?

I've put up a training mission to give guys a break from missions- it's the Playground and has most of the available aircraft types as well as some JTAC slots for the combined arms guys. I'm still not sure about the playable spots for CA... do you need to assign Ground Commander spots for ALL playable vehicles- or do people with CA automatically get to join in whatever vehicles are "playable?"

^^^LOL

tsk tsk...

---

I paired back the Ground Commander slots in the Cross to one per side. Had a situation the other day where two Red GC's were sending the same groups in different directions. It would have been OK if we had been talking on TS about what we were doing, but I figured that can't be controlled. There are four JTAC slots on each side.

A CA slot can jump into most wheeled vehicles, as long as the Player Can Control checkbox is checked.

There are specified JTAC vehicles in the mission called I Am A Rock - it's been a long time since I've played it.

Just kidding, tc!

I am looking forward to Shirley's Cross with TS. I have barely flown in it, and do like the CA stuff. Can't wait for work to be over today - TGIF! And the wife is outta town - yahoo.

My wife is headed to a movie me thinks. I'll miss her but I'll console my self by hopefully slapping around some tanks. Hope to see you there. Also my motherboard is enroute back from being RMAed so I'm hoping I can have my proper PC back up running again soon, and with a much beefier video card too I'm happy to report!
