If you have three planes to play with, approach at the SAME time from at least 2 different directions. The guidance radar can only cover so many degrees at a time.

Barrel rolls against missiles get you just one thing: Killed. (And if they're not killing you right now, they will in the future)

I'm not sure if it would be more effective... the S300 radar system can track 100 targets, and engage 12 simultaneously. So that just means 3 of us will get shot down. I think Mol and I had it right. We had a lot of successes in getting behind the defense and in close enough for a shot. We just a failure to execute. In my opinion, my failure was due to lack of training with using the hills to avoid radar, popping up and shooting. This was the FIRST time I've been able to make it up that far. Anxiety was HUGE for me.

Next time we fly Rampant, that s300 site will fall. WE need to put 2 mavs on target. The agm 65K or 65G are probably the best suited weapon due to their larger warheads.

You got to take more than two with you to help you clear the path in case you run into one of Crew's strategicly placed Stelas in the mountain passes. GEESH if dodging SA-10s isn't difficult enough... LOL I went from feeling cocky for out smarting that SA-10 to turning pale as a ghost, as I managed to scoot up an adjacent draw trying to get granit between me and the heater. I reckon he was as suprised to see me as I was him... cuz he didn't get me.

The Ds got plenty to take out the S-300 the Ks and Gs are primarily used on buildings and bridges

reason I chose those... If you could put a K or G in the middle of the two radar elements and command module, there is a good chance you'll get a two-fer or three-fer. Not sure if crew used the stock S300 site template or not.

We need for some KA-50 pilots to start up in the mountains at that FARP and take out the Strela before we get there.

I find that the D seems to get a lock at a greater distance that the K in game. Distance is your friend with sams.

Sorry im late to the party here - I've killed that very SA-10 site by following the stream in thought the mountains. It will work but its close. I think there is a ZSU there too and some IFVs that will open up on you. If you haven't killed it this way yet rest assured it can be done, just don't A. Get tagged by ground fire or B. miss the radar on your first pass and extend out beyond r/min of the SAMs on your frantic turn back in for run #2!

We had a really good path through the mountains. Mol got shot down prematurely but i was able to basically give the radio operator a backrub before he hit the fire button.

So.. If we load an AGM 65G, that has the same tracking IR head as the D but a 300lb explosive charge. IT is also possible to force correlate that model allowing us to fire before the D would usually find it's contrast lock.

I want to go after it again this weekend.

Very interesting conversation. I love it!

On a side note that is a 104th Moa mission though I believe him and crew are friends. He won't be able to answer those questions about which setup it is. I hope he doesn't- I'd quite rather see this kind of cooperation and discussion.

One question and I know it sounds stupid but does chaff work when it's behind you? I'm just wondering if the reflected energy off the chaff would be strong enough to mask an aircraft if two or three dumped high volumes of chaff from some distance back while the shooter tries to get in range. I know ECM is basically placebo in the game but how about the chaff?

I reflect back on my old time favourite book Red Storm Rising from Tom Clancy... and a flight of B-52s flies ahead of a strike package and dumps bombay sized loads of chaff to help generate enough reflected radar energy to simply overwhelm an antenna's ability to process the returns. Certainly, we're not talking about a HUGE load of chaff in our case- but a few aircraft dispensing quick pattern bundles over a period of time must be able to accomplish something... Or not... I'm not sure how its modelled in the sim.

What would be great is a couple of Su-25s in the west portion of the mission to be able to go in there and do the business with some of their ARMs. Would be nice to get a different type of aircraft in the mission for people to fly. Also, a couple JTAC spots in Gori and in the town by the fork in the river.

To address this point as well- it works in a similar concept. Wheel is talking about broadening the dispersal pattern of the chaff by doing the barrel rols... I've seen the effect it has with the flare patterns and it really does spread them out a lot more. What I'm reading from your response Grey is that this wouldn't have the effect that we're hoping for?

Eh Turk... good to see you again.

I'm a train fan from way back. Never worked in N scale... but I can imagine it would be a challenge!

On a separate note, can I get a couple of guys to volunteer to help recreate the issue we had in Odessy Dawn the other night where everyone seemed to get separated on the server? Crew was seeing us on the runway while Mol and I were up flying around blowing stuff up?

Basically I'd just need to put up OD in 1.2.2 and save their log file after the mission. Make a note of when you detect the issue. It's happened 2 for 2 on 1.2.2 so far so I can't imagine it would take long.

I'd just need one of the admins with my comp access to be able to go in and save the server side log afterwards.

Reason is I'd wanted to bring it up to EDs attention and was promptly told that to avoid a potential dog pile of complaints about multiplayer instability... that I provide the tracks and logs. The tracks save themselves- but if you guys could send your tracks of that mission to me along with your dcs.logs... that could work.

Anyway- if a few people could step up it'd be appreciated.

I saw where Operation Rampant Bear got restarted a couple of times in the last 12-15 hours? Was that on purpose?

We have dinner guests here tonight - should be on later...

yes I restarted it after it had been running 24 hours or so. I think I did a second restart yesterday evening just before blinding came on. I saw no weird stuff since the other night.

Other than the occasional frame rate drops, no issues on my end last night. Except one less BB on the rwr xwing
