"Stick and Rudder" by Wolfgang Langewiesche.

This is an amazingly informative book on the mechanics of flight. There's nothing in here on combat flying, but you need to master the basics before you can master combat flying. I've picked up a used copy, it really has helped my flying. A co-worker studying for his pilot's license had a copy too.

Relatively.. unfortunately I can't edit the page @ UBI because the thread is closed. I can update the Nugget's Guide but not the Essentials thread.
