Molasses, what were the F-15's doing? I never got past BVR with any of them last night. Also, its no small secret the SFM's for the FC birds aren't exactly realistic. There are pages of discussion about that on the ED forums.

There are pages of discussion about that on the ED forums. Those mean bullies in the F-15s Shot their 120s at the SU27s but they would actually toy with the A-10s much like a great white toys with baby seals...lol They would come down and out turn the a-10 s then kill us with guns or heaters something that would never happen realisticlly. WC and I did our best but I only manage to one or two of them all night. In exchange for probably 10 or 11 Hawgs. One of my kills was just before I left. I got lucky with a high aspect gun kill because the Eagle driver got careless. I fully expected the 15s to dive on us with winders then zoom climb. But instead they dove on us then out turned us in our environment. Where the A-10 would have butchered an F-15.

iShot was fun last night - for the F-15Cs... I just removed the fast movers from the iShot mission. The reason is because I cannot put F-15Cs on the Red side to make the mission balanced. iShot is designed to be Blue/Red image - each side has the equivalent of the other's. What was really a lesson here is how fast the F-15Cs are - and how far away they can detect other a/c. Molasses and I would see them coming out of Min-Vody when we were between Beslan and Nalchik in the relatively open area. We could see them turn right toward us and we had no time to be able to get under our air defense umbrella at either base before they got within range. And they would fire the AMRAAMs from so far away there was no launch warning, but the missiles would show up quickly on the F10 View. This is pretty much what things looked like for me and Mo - OTOH, there were quite a few folks in the mission and it ran well. So, for iShot, no more fast movers, F10 View is Allies only (will be interesting...), Scenes, Civ Traffic, Padlock and Mini-Hud are not checked on the left. I am going to add in Combined Arms slots. Sorry to see the fast movers go, they added a new element to the game. Had I been on the Red side I would have gone to the Su-27 instead of continuing to try to slip past the F-15s in A-10s - suicide move, as the Red team found out last night.
You can play with the red/blue countries to add a country that has F-15cs to the Red side.
If you're adamant about no fast movers, what about P-51Ds? They're relatively quick but no missiles and still add that interesting element of air intercept.

I was only on for about an hour, but I only made contact with one of the F-15's- I believe that was you, Einstein? Other than that, my own kills were Blue A-10's.
But maybe some MiG-29's with R-77's to balance out the AMRAAM advantage as well? Or, if it were Flankers vs. Eagles and SARH only, that might make for a bit more of a fair fight. Not as realistic, but more fair.

You can play with the red/blue countries to add a country that has F-15cs to the Red side. I had an old LOMAC mission with F-15C vs F-15C - it was US against Israel to make it work. The coalitions can only be set at the beginning of the mission design - no changes to them after. We have other missions that use the fast movers - really wish Thunder was working. We'll have to try it again soon - see if the DCS side of the Multiplayer has been improved. I did find the bug in iShot that announced Red a/c at Min-Vody at about 20 minutes into the mission. And set the speed of the Red convoy that creates the air defense sites to match the Blue convoy. iShot just was not a concept that can use the fast movers - the A-10Cs get turned into cream corn well before they have a chance to attack the targeted air base defenses and units. The coalitions can only be set at the beginning of the mission design - no changes to them after. No changes via the Mission Editor, but you can change them via the "mission" file in the .miz. Search for '["blue"] =' and '["red"] = '. Save a backup, of course. the A-10Cs get turned into cream corn well before they have a chance to attack the targeted air base defenses and units. Because the A-10 tactics are to stream straight for the air defenses without any escort support at all. The only way this tactic would work is if the air defense fighters are morons or there are no air defense fighters in the mission at all. Picking the second option will work, but don't blame mission design for poor tactics.

Morning guys. Glad to hear it went so well! Nice to come in here and see mission discussion instead of crash notifications. Hope to see some of you in there today! Pete maybe we'll see you up there!
An option on the fast movers is to clip their wings. Start them empty and go into the warehouse and drop the number of long ranged missiles to 0 available. Make winders available only.
It was pretty cool to see the contrails way above me while doing Ishot last night. Interesting discussions.

Exactly. Pilots with no notion of A2A will get killed dead by just about anyone sitting in an A2A fighter seat. Most people don't believe me when I tell them that they can avoid and evade enemy fighters. However, there is one real issue with missions that don't change: Routes don't change so after 1-2 flights, the fighters always know where to wait for the A2G guys. Here you have to involve fighter sweeps and/or escort, but again, if the A2G guys are not A2A aware, what's the poor escort to do about it as the A2G guys scream help/where's my escort while flying STRAIGHT into the bandits. Because the A-10 tactics are to stream straight for the air defenses without any escort support at all. The only way this tactic would work is if the air defense fighters are morons or there are no air defense fighters in the mission at all. Picking the second option will work, but don't blame mission design for poor tactics.

Just found out slmod doesn't impact stability at all so it's going back on the server. Had another bit of an issue last night and being unable to lock the door on people was proving to be a nuisance. It will also facilitate mission rotation for the admins in mission.
I'm going to make a version of missions that eliminates tankers, AWACS, predators- and minimizes AI aircraft where possible. At least until 7570 gets fixed. Fortunately most of these items aren't an integral part of the mission designs so their absence won't make or break anything.

To their credit, the A-10C guys were being pretty crafty in their approaches to the target and were not following a scripted route. At one point, they were coming in from the west, a completely unexpected direction! Unfortunately for them, the Blue search radars found them, making them easy pickings for the F-15s, even though they did their best to hide in the valleys. The Su-27 guys were also mixing up their tactics near the end, with NavyNuke getting a few Eagle kills before the end of the night. I still hold if there had been two (or more!) dedicated Su-27s supporting their advancing A-10Cs, the battles would have felt a lot less one-sided. ALL THAT SAID, if Wreck, eno, et al, want to refocus this mission on the ground-pounders and make this a Hawg-only mission, I'm all for it - it will still be oodles of fun. Thanks for your enthusiasm in hosting this and WC for the missions I also share GG's heartfelt appreciation for eno and Wreck's support of thes missions. Without their dedicated efforts, this little community (and ever-flammable forum thread!) just wouldn't exist. My hat's off to you two gentlemen!

I did have a thought a bit ago to make a fast mover version of iShot.
I wonder if anyone would get upset if I put the US up against Israel for an F-15C on F-15C engagement? For that first Fly-In back in 2010 a guy did complain about one of the missions that involved Israel - he did not like the premis, but the reason was the same - in order to pit certain types of weps against each other.

My personal opinion, and take it with a grain of salt, is that while I don't mind (and in fact we pretty much train SAC and DAC in the 44th), I like to see DAC rather than SAC on server. Because we're not looking at a DCS fighter, I think Su-27's and MiG-29's for red vs F-15's for blue would be cool. Basically I like Blue v Red scenarios This in a bit of a contrast to the much-wanted A-10C on both sides, which is the only DCS CAS aircraft (though there might be some argument for 25T's vs A-10C's ... ie. a total Blue v Red scenario). I did have a thought a bit ago to make a fast mover version of iShot.

Eh guys... thanks for the shout out. It feels much better to be working on this when it starts to work well and I start reading more about the fun people are having versus all the instability. That was really the primary intent of having this thread- was to sit around and debrief and smack talk each other a little bit. Obviously the screens never get old and I LOVE the eye candy- especially in those teamwork type captions where guys are working together. On a business related note I did get a chance to go in and evaluate the changes to the new slmod and I was extremely happy to see he added a chatlog functionality. It makes it SO much easier for me to track down UCIDs after the fact in the event some smacktard comes in and flames everyone- There is an autokick feature built in as well- but I need to clarify a few things with it. I know the debate generated a lot of attention back when we were talking about "what's the limit" on friendly fire kills etc... I got a good amount of feedback from that and generally understand where the community stands as a whole on the issue. The beauty of slmod is that it makes being an admin in the game much, much easier. Once a person is registered as an admin, he's an admin. Now, I've discovered that people can actually go in with a particular chat code / password that registers them as an admin automatically so I don't need to wait until their in mission or go and individually add them in the registry. So instead of needing to depend on autokick features so much, we just need a nice solid group of trusted regulars we know will not abuse the privileges of admin functions. Admin functions include changing missions (provided that actually works now at the DCS level... it hasn't since I Started playing), banning, kicking, etc. Basic functions and commands can be found here to give you an idea: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1560523&postcount=298Server has been down for a bit here while I get things installed. I'm looking forward to testing it today!
