Western Germany, Bundeswehr 1988-89 BWK Osnabr�ck...I started my basic training with a duodenal ulcer and was in severe pain when I arrived. I got hospitalised for more than three weeks on the next day  Basic training at NschAusbKp 17/I, Gellendorf Kaserne, Rheine (NschAusbKp = logistics training company) Afterwards PzGrenBtl 202, MatGrp, Bl�cher Kaserne, Hemer (MatGrp = logistics squad for the Panzergrenadier bataillon). The unit belonged to Panzerbrigade 20 which was part of the 7th Panzer Division. For the record, no harm in mentioning details here. Both units are disbanded by now and neither barracks exist anymore.

Wish I'd had the sense, I've thought many times how I might have been better off having done so. Same here. I was really looking forward to joining the Navy after I graduated from college but the open heart surgery I had when I was 8 put an end to that!

I was on the verge of joining the Royal Marines before I went to college, had been told I was ok to join up but I went to college instead and sometimes kick myself for that.
