... And are you actually able to make a super accurate hardcore Kub or Buk now?!

Currently all efforts goes to the SA-75M/MK Dvina (SA-2F), and the biggest air battle after WWII.

I plan the release of this version for the anniversary of that battle.

The future is still fluid, with several options.
Next year, there will be a public voting about the SIM development direction.

It would be cool if scripts could be used to integrate this into the DCS series... that is my impulse...

Im open to any joint development with any commercial SIM...

Oh, and by the way, if you did make a PATRIOT sim, what would your sources be? I ask this because you already seem to know the basic acquisition and firing steps for the manual and semi-auto modes . ( hooking and firing )

I can only use that is googled and youtubed around.

Real radar and missile performance data is confidential, so I either use data from Janes book, or simply substitute the missile performance with Russian S-300 missile data. (their range/engine burn time/etc is pretty close)

I tnink the concept "Realistic to the switch" will loose with the "Patriot". The SA-2 to 5 are old, but you have literature and real officers, to make them really "real" smile Anyway, "PATRIOT" would be very booring in my opinion... Waittin' for "Dvina" and "Shilka"... thumbsup

Correct.

Nobody in Hungary has any qualifications about the Patriot.
nope

Meanwhile I had the privilege of personally sitting in a ZSU-24-4V1 Shilka for hours, and has connections to the ex-Trainer of the Shilka school in Hungary...
thumbsup

All in all, Shilka would be realistic-to-the-switch, while Patriot would only give you a kind-of-feeling of the system operator job...
(yet still the most realistic available free sim)
... but still openly looking for other systems, and ways to develop the SAMSIM.
cool

'Till the PATRIOT capabilities are confidential, nothing can be done about it.... People from whole Eastern Europe can help you about old russian SAM's. Thanks to The WEB, people from whole world can help you with data for any kind of SAM, but a lot of them are still secret...

Hey, why is it that when I am using a laptop monitor with the latest version, I cannot run the SAM Simulator at the proper resolution? I set the screen resolution to 1280*1024 in windows and when I boot up SAM Simulator, it says that the screen resolution is 1564*312.5 even though I have already set it to 1280*1024 in windows? Does SAM Simulator not work on laptops? I have the latest version, just to clarify.

I'd actually love to see the patriot just to something with the labels in english wink Actually is there any chance of having English language tool tips when you hover the mouse over a switch or button? Other then that one request, fantastic work on everything!

What does the commander's panels on the Shilka do?

This is the main system control, beside one of the two stations, that can actually fire the guns.

It is an issue with the screen magnification feature of Windows.
Just set it back to 100%.

In the WarPact, all labels were left Russian, while all documentation was translated to local language.
The only systems I know to had English labels, were those shipped to Arab countries.

Hmm, why can't you do the ZSU-23-4M then? I have little knowledge of the different ZSU-23-4 SPAAG models, but from what I can infer, the M seems to be better than the V1. Just observing. And also, do you need actual time in the cockpit of a SAM system to make it "realistic to the switch", or can you just have access to the system's manual? I ask because I have access to the manual of the SA-13 and SA-19. Where did I get them from, funny thing, the steelbeasts website!

Doing a SAMSIM "Realistic to the Switch" requires a bit more...
- spending few hours in the actual cabin, to shot the required photos
- reading threw all the operations manuals
- discussing details with Officers, who preferably had live shooting (at Asuluk, or around Belgrade)
- receiving video of real (or firing range) launches, where the sounds can be digitized
- receiving real battle maps about the actual wartime use

Really minor differences only...

ZSU-23-4 was fielded from 1964, as a basic version.
ZSU-23-4V was fielded from 1968, it had the option of mixed optical/radio target tracking, to overcome jamming, and had increased gas turbine (V-6R) lifetime. (450hrs compared to 300hrs)
ZSU-23-4V1 was fielded from 1971, received new gas turbine (V-6R1), with 600hrs lifetime.
ZSU-23-4M was fielded from 1972, had a new canon (2A7M) with expanded lifetime (4500 shots compared to 3000 shots)
ZSU-23-4M2 was the "Afghan" variant without radar, and with NVG, and increased load (3000 compared to 2000).
ZSU-23-4M3 was fielded from 1979, with IFF.

As these advancements does not seems too major for the SIM, and I had the privilege to personally spend few hours in a V1, I plan to include this version...

It's probably going to be a bit tough to do this without a 3d world.

Is that a Strela-10 I see next to that Shilka! It seems that you can do a simulator of that then! Or are you not permitted access to it?

Strela-10 is an optically aided system, and as SAMSIM doesn't have photorealistic 3d world, I see no point to include it.

Shilka main mode of operation is the radar guided one.
