I am very very useless at this sim. I love it, but I haven't blown up a single solitary thing. I've tried the odd tutorial - just to get things going - like the Maverick one - but no go. Even read through the relevant sections of the manual, with no joy
The only time I have laid down any ordinance (apart from 30 mike mike) is when I jettison my stores :-)
On the plus side, I can do a startup from cold.
I just wish I could find an easy way to blow #%&*$# up!
Still. It's important to keep chipping away at it...a few weeks ago I couldn't start the damn engines :-)

I'm sure we could do a comedy unsynchronised virtual airshow one day.........I do a great solo weaving-down-the-runway-left-and-right-before-the-wheels-lift-take-off too. I'd like to think that it's my pedals at fault for that one though.....the sensitivity needs sorting out on my CH Pro Pedals - they only need to get a mere sniff of the soles of my feet and I'm doing alternate handbrake turns all the way down. Anyone in the skies above would think the runway is lined up with traffic cones that I'm trying to avoid.

I do the dance down the runway too. One thing I have done to "minimise" it's spectacle of beauty as it weaves down the runway is to switch off the Nose Wheel Steering...use the "lesser" effect of the rudders to keep me straight.
I think I might have to look at the sensitivity of my stick.

You can take off? You Sir are my hero! One day I hope to join you up there.
If I read this manual another three or four times I may get the engines running.......maybe.
If you watch Jaws backwards, it's a heart warming story about a shark that spits out so many people that they have to open a beach.

that tutorial really does break things down Billy. It took me a good amount of time to be proficient in the weapons...Heck, I just this weekend figured out using LGB's this weeked! so it's certainly not something that will come overnight. If you have the startup procedures down pat, that's a great start. I would recommend focusing on one weapon type at a time. Start off with using the targeting pod to find your target, then use rockets/dumb bombs using CCIP. Then move on to using them CCRP as this will bridge onto using JDAMs and LGB's. Finally, goto mavericks as they are the biggest PITA to use, but once you master them you will rock out. The key with Mavericks is to use the targeting pod to find your target, and slew the maverick sensor to the target you've found (this way your not searching for little white dots and guessing if that's it or not).
I hope this helps!

I might have to join your club, although I did manage to blow something up I am yet to reproduce it. I'd like everyone to charge their glasses.....A toast...... To mediocrity!

Sorry Dimebag - this club is exclusively for people who's only way of launching ordinance is to JETTISON said ordinance! You, my friend, are seasoned.

I've yet to find the button that is mapped to 'jettison' so I'm not sure I'm qualified to join the club either. I've recently found that I can actually create a decent sized explosion by flying into the ground with the throttles fully forward.

Must be a Brit thing, as I'm pretty useless at it as well. I really like the tutorials and the way they are set up Reason why is I did the Tutorial No2: Take off and Basic Handling- Went ok but then I had a problem try to land as I hadn't been through the Landing tutorial as it is the 4th one. Shredded tyres, no speed brakes etc well you get the picture. One thing though I had a laugh and I like it Splash

Unless you have a fancy HOTAS the trick is to learn the keys needed for the HOTAS targeting functions, or to remap those Hotas functions to more convenient keys. I would recommend picking one weapon, such as the LGB or Mav and getting that set up right, then moving on to the next weapon etc. Remember real life pilots would take about 3 months full time to get to grips with weapons, whilst we often try to do it in a few hours and wonder why it is so hard.
I would also recommend remapping the active pause to a single key (I remapped to Scroll Lock - right next to the normal Pause) That way you can pause and look up instructions and keys whilst you get the hang of things.
Also use invulnerable, infinite ammo and any available 'cheats' and do the training or quick scenarios like that in order to get the hang of the flow. That way you can fly repeated attacks against a target without worrying about being shot down. It is not cheating - it is basic systems training. You wouldn't expect the targets at the shooting range to fire would you? Getting shot at can come later when you have the hang of things.
Cheers Stuntie.

Gentlemen remember TMS is your friend. Forward long to set your SPI. And China Hat Fwd to slew your Mav to SPI. Then Tms Short to ground stabalize lock and fire. Rinse and Repeat
Ahh CLOD never in the history of Simming has so much been promised and so little given.
However I want to thank Team Fusion for keeping the Dream Alive.

Gentlemen remember TMS is your friend. Forward long to set your SPI. And China Hat Fwd to slew your Mav to SPI. Then Tms Short to ground stabalize lock and fire. Rinse and Repeat LOL .. I suspect quoting acronyms and HOTAS-commands isn't really helpful to those who are struggling with the steep learning curve. I'm gonna quote Magnum and myself from a different THREAD with some keys you might find useful: Auto-Start R-Win+Home
Take Off/Landing Wheel Brake W Landing Gear G Raise Flaps L-Control+F (2X) Lower Flaps L-Shift+F (2x) Steering Lock INSERT
Navigation Make MFCD Left SOI Hold H Make MFCD Right SOI Hold K Make HUD SOI U Cycle Range END
Combat Preparation Below Left MFCD Master Arm/GUNPAC/Laser/TGP See Weapon Loads DSMS button (Botton, 2nd) Cycle Weapons Make HUD SOI U Master Modes M
Employing Gun Master Arm and GUNPAC switches ON Open DSMS page Guns Master Mode M Aiming Reticle on HUD
Employing Rockets Select DSMS page CCIP Master Mode M Select Rockets (LAU) Engine start-up Left Engine: RALT+HOME Right Engine:RCTRL+HOME
Engine cut-off Left Engine: RALT+END Right Engine:RCTRL+END
Open/close canopy: LCTRL+C
Flaps Maneuvering/TO-Flaps: F Full Flaps (landing): F (2x)
Retract Flaps single stage: LShift+F Retract Flaps completely: LShift+F (2x)
Speed-Brake Extend: LCTRL+B Retract: LSHIFT+B
Engage/disengage Autopilot: A
A note on GAU8-related mappings:
"Engage PAC" should be mapped to a convenient joystick-button if no dual-stage-trigger is present. You can't map both functions to your single-stage-trigger. I tried using a keystroke for this, but it was pretty much useless. I have it now mapped to a stick-button I can easily reach with my thumb during gun-runs. Helped to increase my hit-percentage dramatically.
I'll just continue your list with some of my own notes:
Weapons, TGP as SOI
Slew view left , Slew view down . Slew view right / Slew view up ;
Note: For QWERTZ-keyboards these are , . -
Toggle wide/narrow FOV: V (short) Zoom in: HOME Zoom out: END Reset TGP to boresight: C (short)

Maverick as SOI

Slave all sensors to SPI: V (long) Attempt to lock target under crosshairs (when taget was acquired from TGP/"slave all sensors to SPI"-command): LCTRL+UP-arrow (short)
Countermeasures/ECM
Start countermeasures-program: 7 (needed in all CM-settings but "AUTO") Stop countermeasures-program: 8 Cycle through CM-programs: 9 and 0 Activate jammer: - (again: needed in all CM-settings but "AUTO") - on QWERTZ:
Eject: LCTRL+E (3x)
Sim-/Game-controls Increase time-acceleration: LCTRL+Z Normal time: LSHIFT+Z
Note: Z = Y on QWERTZ
Pause sim: PAUSE (duh!)
Display FPS: RCTRL+ PAUSE
Views (not all of us have TrackIR) smile Zoom in: NUM* Zoom out: NUM/ Center cockpit-view: NUM5 Reset zoom to standard: NUM ENTER
I'm sure I forgot quite a few important ones... Since I don't use a HOTAS, I didn't bother writing down which switches get activated by which keyboard-command. Just the keyboard-command and the *function* it will trigger (e.g.: "Slew all sensors to SPI"). Oh, and yes: Some essential acronyms TGP: Targeting Pod. The grey, tube-shaped thing hanging under your right wing. Your extended eyes. Used to search for and lock/track targets. Its viewscreen can be brought up in either of the two MFCDs by pressing the button (OSB) labelled "TGP" on either the left or right MFCD. SPI: Sensor Point of Interest. A point in the world designated by you. Is used for target-delivery (like in CCRP-bombing-mode). Can also be used to tell a friendly which target to attack. Can be set to an object (e.g. a tank or a bridge) by using "point"-tracking mode on the TGP. SOI = Sensor of Interest. Basically, you can only have one active sensor and input device for the plane's systems at any given time. That active sensor is your SOI. Can either be HUD, or one of your MFCDs in TGP, MAV or TAD modes. Example: You set one of your MFCDs to "TGP". Most likely there'll be a "NOT SOI"-warning on the screen. To make it SOI, press "H" long if it's on your left, "K" long if it's on your right MFCD. Once it's SOI, the warning dissapears and there'll be a green outline-"box" on the MFCD in question. Once this is done, slew-/zoom-control input by you will slew/zoom the TGP's viewfield. Also: Selecting a SPI with your TGP as SOI will tell your systems that you want to mark the point under your TGP's crosshairs as SPI. If your HUD is SOI, your slew-keys will move a "little green square" (forgot its official name ) on it. Likewise, the key-combination for marking a SPI will then use the coordinates under that green square on your HUD to designate your new SPI. TAD: Tactical Awareness Display: Think of it as your onboard-satelite-navigation-unit. Can only be brought up on the left MFCD. Shows waypoints/flightpaths and also displays targets you receive from JTAC (forward observers). Can also be used to designate a SPI. Make TAD SOI and then you can slew around a little green cross on the map with your slew-control. If you set the cross on a target-marker given to you by JTAC you can then "hook" the target (LCTRL + arrow up short) and a yellow line will be drawn on the map leading from your plane to the target. LCTRL + up arrow long then makes the map-target your SPI. Next you can press "V" long to slew all seonsors (TGP/MAV-seeker head) to the new SPI. That way you'll have all your sensors/weapons looking at the location given to you by JTAC and it should be much easier to find your target with the TGP. Damn! It *is* rather hard to explain one of these acronyms without using a whole bunch of others... Whew.. this has gotten rather lengthy... sorry bout that! S.
