Just did a quick look, and the script appears to be working.
I don't have a clou about how SFP handles target areas however so I can't tell if it does what it is supposed to be doing.

I used Python 2.6, installed via the .msi as admin.
I then changed to the directory where I have the script and ran it.

c:\> cd \users\jazz\downloads\temp\
c:\users\jazz\downloads\temp\> targetarea.py

The script ran and gave me back a "not enough arguments" warning, which is exactly what I expected.
So if the maker of the script has told you where to place the script and what arguments to use it should run fine.

Hope this helps

OK. That is one of the errors it is giving me.

Just a quick thing on targets. In your terrain folder you have a XXXXXtarget.ini. In there you have your targets listed with the first target never an airfield.

From my Eastern Canada terrain,

[TargetArea002] TargetID in sequence
Name=Halifax Intl Name of target
Position=322500.00,271812.00 position on the main map in meters
Radius=7071.067871 radius of target in meters
ActiveYear=0
Location=1 As designated to be a country in another INI
Alignment=FRIENDLY
AirfieldDataFile=german_airbase4.ini
NumSquadrons=6
Target[001].Type=Runway6 This refers to the XXXXX_types.ini
Target[001].Offset=0.00,0.00 These positions refer to an offset in meters from 0,0. That being the position as detailed in Line 3
Target[001].Heading=60.0 heading of target on the map so things face the right way
Target[002].Type=Tower1
Target[002].Offset=-66.16,0.09
Target[002].Heading=0
This sequence repeats to give all the targets that would be at Halifax Intl.

The script is designed to read the properties of a .svg file made by a program called Inkscape, a freeware open source product. then it will make a output text file that would give the Target[00*] 3 lines.

Now the maker of the script is not telling me where I should have the .svg and .py placed as you have stated. This is what I am really missing is how to get the script to read the .svg and where do I get the results.

I think it is a very good idea, if now it had a GUI to make things simpler.

Can you send me a .svg file to experiment with?
We have now established that the script is fundamentally working, so lets take the next step and really try and put it to use.

Ok, got it working.
Although I have no clou what it means..

I created (?) a TargetArea x; with name y; on position 123,456; radius 10; and heading 360
With the command below.
The targetarea is not added to the svg file as far as I can see.

As stated, I have no idea what this means in the context of the game, but the script seems to be working..

C:\Users\jazz\Downloads\temp>targetarea.py target.svg x y 123 456 10 360

[TargetAreax]
Name=y
Position=123,456
Radius=10
ActiveYear=0
Location=3
Alignment=ENEMY
Target[000].Type=AAA
Target[000].Offset=51.43,52.36
Target[000].Heading=360
Target[001].Type=SAMLauncher
Target[001].Offset=45.71,340.93
Target[001].Heading=360
Target[002].Type=
Target[002].Offset=311.43,529.51
Target[002].Heading=360
Target[003].Type=SAMLauncher
Target[003].Offset=551.43,358.08
Target[003].Heading=360
Target[004].Type=AAA
Target[004].Offset=100.00,840.93
Target[004].Heading=360
Target[005].Type=AAA
Target[005].Offset=551.43,766.65
Target[005].Heading=360

Can you show me now how you did that? PM or here. Maybe PM until we get it sorted out properly.

That is doing what we are looking for.

[TargetAreax]
Name=y
Position=123,456
Radius=10
ActiveYear=0
Location=3
Alignment=ENEMY

This can be text edited easily.
