I will be holding on to XPpro as my OS untill alot of info. comes in saying that one of the vistas is the best thing to go with.
Any one looking at vista and all the "sim' games we play?
Like for myself SH3, soon Sh4, LOCKON, sturmovic, BoB2, CIV4,----

I run SH3 (no SF patch), AoE III, Flight Sim 2004, NWN Platinum Edt just fine.

So? That's only 4 games. I have over 40 games installed on my PC and I have a second PC with about ten games installed to it. What's the odds of Vista running all of those without issues? Slim, is my guess.

Sure, it is only 4 (that take up a significant amount of time). What are the odds that you're simply making a WAG as to compatibility? Extremely high.

Right now it's the exact same thing we had back when XP was released. Some 98SE games had compatilibity issues and many gamers would whine about XP's hunger for RAM and generally worse performance.

XP had much better compatibility than Vista does. Vista breaks a lot of stuff, maybe too much this time around. The only reason people use Windows still is because it usually has good backwards compatibility. I expect one of these days Microsoft will break all compatibility with legacy stuff just like Apple did with OSX and then there will be no benefit to using Windows at all. Without 100% compatibility with my game library I certainly have no reason to continue using Windows.

Rilex offered the information that had available from personal experience. That's what we do here.

Hi, If you plan to stay playing your actual games and no others who are to be released in the future...I suggest you to stick with your actual hardware and OS. For be prepared to any disasters I will also suggest you to buy urgently clones of your hardware stuff..as it will maybe difficult to buy again in a near future.... Compatibility will be allways a problem ...is a fact of life!! I remember...hundred years ago ..it was easy to go in the city with my horse... Today it's pratically impossible...and if I succeed...I don't find a good place for let him..or feed him... Times change...... OFF

It breaks drivers due to a driver model change and some programs that rely on drivers that do work with XP (e.g. CD burning software, StarForce, etc.). Beyond that, compatibility is pretty much the same. Good vendors (and the bad, like StarForce) already have Vista compatible drivers...Nero, nVidia, ATi, Intel, etc.

I said those games run fine. I did not say your 99 other games would run fine, so I'm finding it hard to figure out where you believe I implied that they would. At any rate, it would be more productive to come up with a list of games that do break if you have such a list. Saying "I assume that compatibility sucks" isn't useful or truthful.
