I really, really liked Contact until the very end. I found that ending to be rather uninspiring and dull IMHO. The build up to the galactic journey was a lot more interesting than the journey itself.
That's what happens when you let a physicist write a Sci-Fi novel.
Carl Sagan is always a better read on non fiction.
