..........The new summer terrain I downloaded from Cord's page makes me wonder; Why hasn't someone made a "steppes" terrain? I watched the A & E documentary last week about the campaign in the east with an eye on the terrain. Soft rolling grassland with some sparse timber stands. Kinda like Nebraska. It seems that a relativly featureless terrain without British (or Norman) style farmland wouldn't be too difficult, but not being a programer, I don't know. Would someone consider adding this type of terrain? We could sure use it!

I stay dubitative about the utility of such terrain...Having kilometers and kilometers of stepps, in addition with unrealistic rivers everywhere, wouldn't be a bit strange? There are big desert, so No problem for desertics. The Russia is very big too, when it snows or not. The pacific is big and wet. But what about the stepps? Can we have a non-monotonie historical background for it?

If the landscape looks like it, why not model it? Sure it would maybe look monotonous, but accurate. Don't know about the water tiles of the rivers (makes me think I should splash my plane and see if it's "water" in the desert and European terrains) but if they can be "toned down" for the desert the same can be done for the Steppe.

If it looks like it, make it like it!

Monotonous? You bet! I remember seeing on the History Channel a German soldier comment about moving across the steppes. He said it was day after day of endless never-changing landscape. Almost maddening,in his words.

The problem is that Russia is enormous. When I was there, back in summmer 1990, what striked me was the absence of such steppes: what I saw was woods, woods everywhere, made of big trees so near one of another that it seemed impossible for anything bigger than a fox to enter them. That was specially so in the north, but even near Kiev the country was quite more wooded than center Spain.

Sure there is steppes, I think, but my opinion is that excepting south Ukraine the majority of the East Front ... lacks trees!
