Hey guys...stumbled over some posts at another flight sim forum about two bits of software...O & O Defrag and Ultimate Defrag....Guys there claimed that they had DRAMATIC increases in performance (in most cases...admittedly not all) with FS2004 and FSX because the software 'intelligently' sorted/defragged the files so as to make file access quicker....anyone had any experience with these programs and was it positive or not.....read alot of good about both but some negative(not much) about ultimate defrag......any help appreciated....T

To get dramatic results like that then I suspect that the drives were grossly fragmented in the first place. If you stay on top of it you will have optimum performance at all times. And you will never notice dramatic performance gains.

CCleaner is a fine little utility to keep your pc clean and hiccup free, and it really works. Not a defrag utility but very handy to have and can help limit the amount of times you need to defrag. I run it everyday. Oh and it fixes registry errors and its free.

ccleaner is excellent.Machines should ship with it standard.Tone i have not defragged since January, the machine i gave to the missus has had constant defrags and i seriously think it is no good for it's health.

I agree about Ccleaner.

If you do forget to defrag this is a small, neat and free utility which does it at a scheduled time you set.

Not tried Ccleaner, I'll give it a go. I use these. All very reliable (YMMV!) and recommended:

Easy Cleaner - very safe (free):

http://www.toniarts.com/

jv16powertools - does everything but defrag (not free):

http://www.macecraft.com/

ntregopt - defrags registry after removing useless stuff, very small (free). The erunt tool on the same site is also good:

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

PerfectDisk - HD defragger (not free):

http://www.raxco.com/

I find Start Up Control Panel by Mike Lin also very useful staying in control of what is running on my PC (free):

RedToo.

Hey Guys....thanx for your attempts to help me out...i really do appreciate it....and i already use CCleaner and like everyone else find it to be excellent...however my question was

"anyone had any experience with THESE PROGRAMS and was it positive or not"

My angle was that these programs apparantly 'intelligently' defrag files by placing all files from a particular game together and at the pointy end of the drive while all less and rarely used stuff at the other end...apparantly making file access quicker....

Now

"anyone had any experience with these programs and was it positive or not"

Jimbo...hey mate..hows the fam?...im not surprised that your computer still runs sweet...that thing belongs on the space shuttle...haha...id be disappointed if it ran anything but sweet mate....;-)

Thanx for the links red and Ninelives...will check em out

Any help with my question appreciated...;-)
