Hey all. I've been using a cool DX9 plug-in to enhance the look of the Red Baron 3D Sim.

Author's Website:

http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/index_en.html

It happily works with the DX DgVoodoo Wrapper. I spent some time tweaking the files to work well for RB3D. The zipped file I made with the custom settings can be downloaded here:

http://www.divshare.com/download/4413755-702

NOTE! This will not work with the OpenGL wrapper.

A video can be seen here with me using the plug-in Youtube(HQ):

Image examples can be found in the SIMHQ Screenshot and Video Gallery Link:

http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2507952#Post2507952

Hope it enhances the experience.

Hey.

Well GabiLaser, your Track IR Reload program is the reason I have RB3D installed again. As you can see in the video it's very handy. ;\)

von Kinderei, here is my install setup. The system is actually not the top of the line anymore but it works for me. I get about an average 60fps with slight dips in very heavy battles. I'm running it at 1024x768. One can run higher but at this resolution I can max out the options on the card and I get the same frame rate in DgVoodoo as Default ATI settings.
Perhaps the wrapper is heavily Ram or CPU based rather than vid card?

System:
Apple Macbook Pro laptop (running Windows XP S2)
-2.16 Gig Intel Core Duo
-Radeon X1600
-2G DDR2 SDRAM (1G x 2 sticks)

Red Baron 3D patched:
Used Mods:
-Boris' Enb Series DX9 Plug-in.
-Dege's dgVoodoo v1.50 Beta2 Glide wrapper.
-Gabi's ReLoad 1.166 Start-up Program.
-Darwin's FCJ Control Panel 2.1 (just for Fly now and campaign specifics).
-Swissa Western Front Patch 2 (Still hoping to get Moving Front 4 working with it via Reload one day without crashing the game).
-Greybeard's Flight Model for WFP 2.
-Hell's Angels OTE/PL Terrain pack (Rabu's Terrain with Kessler's Objects). This is still my favorite scenery to use.

Amazing how faster machines and a few well-placed mods can make an old classic look and feel good again.

Did you have any issues runnin' under Windows XP and if so what did ya do to fix that problem ...

I hate to ask BUT ... you wouldn't have links to any or all those mods would ya ...

Those screenies sure do look good ... kinda takes my breath away

It works happily under Vista. It may not be a realistic effect, but it somehow gives an 'oldish' aura to the game, as in that old movies where the face of the main character is retouched to make her look more beautiful \:\)

Glad to hear it works.

Yes, it's sort of hyper-reality. Unfortunately, the sim is too old to have any depth shading attributes to take advantage of.

Pretend you're the star of the film "Flyboys". ;\)

It was more of an experiment to see if the Dege's wrapper could handle it. It's nice for desktop backgrounds though.

von Kinderei, Skiddmark's helpful thread at the top of the forum has the links. Just compare it to my list and you'll find the necessary items to download.

Wow, I knew about this and that it works in DirectX9 games (yes it works in 'Over Flanders Fields') but I did not try it on RB3D because I thought the dgVoodoo Glide Wrapper had its own 'logic' and would not work with it at all.

Great find

S! Dantes.
Nice too finally see sombody in RB land with an ATI card getting good fps, Could you please post details of youre video and Dgvoodoo settings? Alot of onliners are being forced too fly in DD an are missing all the fire works.
Love the new effects, but i cannot reisticly say i can handle it online with 25FPS not when i get 85 with it off. Is there any other ENB tweaks that can be done?

The download includes my DgVoodoo config settings you can compare with.

The card is a 256 meg model running the latest drivers. I find running 1024x768 and maxing out the ATi settings more beneficial than running higher resolutions.

Glad you like the effects. As far as ENB tweaks, the author's read-me (included) might give some insights you could try out. Trial and error is how I found mine.

I have noticed that Promised Land and other terrains are sometimes quite frame-intensive as well. Perhaps try different mods?

There is a frame rate drop due to the wrapper processing the effects so I would not recommend it for the precise timing against human opponents. In my experience, they are too unpredictable to lose any frame rates when dealing with them. ;\)
