Hey, is your next patch gonna include AC as well? Or does it already and I'm being a moron? I use the WFP or ROTJ, so I haven't tried just the PL patch alone...
I'd kill to have that Camel model...

Exactly - I wrongly assumed that the existing PL patch did not include aircraft, and it was lucky one of my WFP downloads was broken or I would not have run PL alone and found out to the contrary. The PL stock aircraft are lovely, and all I have done is put my previous FM and damage models in Simpatch. Thanks so much for this wonderful and simple PL patch.

I re-installed RB3D when I heard about the Glidos thing, and Promised Land shortly thereafter. I remember posting that I thought the default aircraft looked pretty good in RB3D. I later did another install of the game, and found that the default aircraft were pathetic. So those aircraft I was admiring as "default" after I installed Promised Land were the ones that came with the download?
Promised Land is an outstanding add-on, and I just saved those fabulous screenshots of Kess's to my HDD.

ok guys heres the scoop. all that there is plane wise in the PL patch are SWWISA created wired planes, some come with their own skins, but they are not full replacement skins for each plane of that type in RB. outside of 3d wired plane models there was nothing plane related included in my last release. For the next All Seasons version im working on fixed and remodeled terrain, some new buildings, implimenting new game objects, corrected historical aces, all planes in the game being skinned by PL, flight models, damage models, reworked AI behaivor for SP, more game shell music, and fixing any loose ends that are left from the first release. ------------------ Kess The Promised Land [This message has been edited by Kess (edited 10-25-2002).]

I'm really at a loss as to how you could possibly improve your PL terrain as it looks to me about the best of any flightsim at any price. Ditto for the effects (I use DeltaK's redux128 and all is now well).
I tried one of the stock USAC N28 missions and gave up chasing the Pfalzes and Halberstadts just headed for the deck, where your terrain and objects look just as good. With the F6 external view, hedge-hopping thru your terrain is an experience in itself, the feeling of speed is better than in many jetsims. Well done.
"Thanks" doesn't really cover it but i'll say it anyway.
More improved, better res planes and/or cockpits to the same very high standard would be very welcome. Those posted look fantastic.
Keep up the good work!

Ditto what Ivor H says. The effect of the trees casting shadows is amazing. That last shot looks like a photo of the real thing flying over real nature. I agree that it may be the best terrain seen in ANY sim.

Remove the contrast from the tiles, and it would be so real you'd swear it was actually happening.

The planes you've posted so far are exceptional! In the past I've used ROTJ and have been equally impressed. I'd like to try adding ROTJ 2 soon. How hard would it be to remove ROTJ 2 and try the updated PL planes when they become available? I've read about the changes that need to be made to make PL and ROTJ2 work together and I'm just concerned about getting everything all messed up later if I want to try something different. Also, does ROTJ2 change more than just the plane skins (ie flight/damage models, missions, etc)? If so is it possible to just intall the plane skins? Any comments or thoughts are much appreciated.
Thanks

The FAQ at the ROTJ Webpage tells what to do to make ROTJ & PL compatable. The next version of ROTJ will have the unnessesary files removed for you, and will be even more compatable with PL.

Breathtaking work, Kess. Now, if you could find someone to paint the individual squad-colors on that it would be drop-dead gorgeous....maybe James or some of the SWISSA-guys? Or am I asking for too much, seems the RB add on gurus are all a bit hostile against each other???

More than that, its a PL UOP patch that will cover planes, aces, fm's, dm's, AI changes, along with revisions to the PL superpatch that contains terrains, sounds, FX, objects, sky's, etc.. basically a complete reworking of all audio/graphics. ------------------ Kess The Promised Land [This message has been edited by Kess (edited 11-07-2002).]

Kess, could it be that you have been inspired by that graphic of Mark Miller? (it's my desktop wallpaper, btw) Now we only need your representation of the Albatros in the foreground... Very nice work! Tron Unfriendly Skies

Yes, hes done some great work. My planes actually look alot better graphics wise then what they do once palattized and in the game, im trying to figure out how to get the Fusalages to show up more clearer (they tend to blur out in game) without enlarging the textures since theres already an overload texture wise with RB. i have alot of german aces added into the game but von hippel isnt one of them unfortunately. ------------------ Kess The Promised Land [This message has been edited by Kess (edited 12-04-2002).]

after i released the ver 1.0 All Seasons patch i started on a full PL UOP (planes, historical aces/squads, AI, FM, DM, new fall and winter terrains, etc...) thinking it would take me a little over a month to do. My thinking now that ive been working on this for nearly two months is that realistically i should be done by this Feb. ------------------ Kess The Promised Land [This message has been edited by Kess (edited 12-06-2002).]

Thanks for posting the Mark Miller painting, Tron, it's about the best and most beautiful WW1 air painting I have ever seen. It's now my wallpaper too. The closest DV is one of those flown by Hippel, isn't it? A nice bird, the DV. Kes, you're gonna have to realease some of this stuff soon or kill us and put us out of our misery. Being able to see, but not touch, oh the pain, the pain...

To Kess and Tron et al, I have just seen this thread and I am now, excited, confused, gobsmacked – all in all I’m in a bit of a tiz waz I fly mainly IL-2 . However, I started my flight simming on Flying Corps Gold and I love WW1. I never did get into red Baron because , frankly the graphics, especially terrain, were not up to it and I haven’t got 3dfx. I had heard that in other respects, especially dynamically, it was an excellent sim. I have a pretty good system built around a nVidia Ge Force 4 4400 card. The pics posted by Kess are ones using available graphics in Red Baron, is that right? Is this using a system such as mine? Hope so! The pic posted by Tron is a photograph, yes ? It’s gotta be. I have got Red Baron 3d. If I can get the sim to look like Kess’, I’d then have a WW1 sim I could love. Where can I find a step by step –simple- way to get from the install of RB3d to Kess’ sim? I have read somewhere about all the patches available but they seem to be so many that to me , they make for confusion. I still can’t believe that those pics in this thread are Red Baron 3D. I think they are marvellous!!

Cas141: Yes, Kess's shots are from RB3D. The other shots are computer art that served as inspiration for Kess. Kess developed the Promised Land add-on for RB3D, which consists of new sounds, ground objects, and some of the most beautiful photo-realistic terrain ever. RB3D is enjoying a rennaissance of sorts thanks to the development of Open Glide, a sort of Glide Wrapper that really works. Now all of us who have been using nVidia-chip video cards can enjoy RB3D in 3D again. I am currently using the Promised Land add-on along with another add-on called the Western Front Patch. The next edition of Promised Land will include those beautiful planes Kess has been teasing us with. To learn more, I suggest you start with this thread . Like you, I got hooked on flightsims with Flying Corps Gold. I enjoyed RB3D for a time until 3DFX went belly up. The new Glidos thing (Open Glide) has brought back the best WWI flightsim for me better than ever. For some more great screens of RB3D in action, go here . These shots feature the Promised Land terrain, WFP planes, and some stunning action that looks like it was shot for a movie! [This message has been edited by No105_ Savage (edited 12-14-2002).]

First off, make sure your running the PL All Seasons Superpatch without any other 3rd party files residing in any subdirectories. next, when your in the game flying, pause the game and then right click your mouse on the screen, there will be a button that pops up to make adjustments to the game, one is for terrain, when your click on the terrain one youll see a selection to run the games sky in a top layer mode or just haze only mode, make sure its set to top layer. Let me know if that fixes you. Heres a Jasta 16b Fokker. ------------------ Kess The Promised Land [This message has been edited by Kess (edited 12-22-2002).]

Kess...it is marvellous...but I must thank too Mr von Helton for the very nice ROTJ:now questions:1 when a plane takes fire i get big Carbon fiber like black squares on the ground and between the wings of differeent planes. Is ther a way to cure this? 2 i encounter 2 AlbD3 without MG. 3 is PLAS compatible with ROTJ? it seemed OK before I removed ROTJ to discover your planes(i thought PLAS was only landscape)..do PLAS manage too DM,FM,IA?
thanx for all the very nice work done by you all, modders.
