Salute! As this forum first started, there was a blast of postings and a lot of interest in the different aspects and features of Red Baron. After the crash, it has become real quite here. Since I had my opinion on the things going on then, and also expressed this in a way that I am not too proud of today, I just held myself back to watch how everything will develop here, after the re-launch. Now, I wonder where all the nice guys from "hour one" are (RossC ?). Are you all just observing too, or are you just tired of all what have happened before? (This is NO question to bring up ANYTHING of older discusssion here, I can just not say it better in my poor English). We have such an exquisite place here at SIMHQ, and I miss a lot of you and the good spirit, we have developed not so long ago. A simple "I am still here" would be enough. Kind of desperate, I send greetings to all of you TRON LoneWulffe_Sturmbock

Tron, Some of the fine folks here at SimHQ came down a bit hard on some of us, so it just may be that we are a bit gun shy of this forum. I have to admit, that the ONLY reason I am even reading/posting here is that Wings of Honor Red Baron forum is down. I saw Mav's post regarding zipped files and replied to that, but as long as the fine folks here at SimHQ are, well, just suffice it to say that some of us feel like we are simply treading on thin ice and don't want to break through.

Salut Tron/Sturmbock! I have been watching ever since SimHQ RB reopened and just haven't seen many threads that I could contribute to.
I prefer cool & quiet to hot & noisy, anyway. Au revoir en l'air...S! Heureux

Let's make this forum again the place, that it was before !!!!!! (standing on a soapbox, gesticulating wildly with his crank to the general position of the monitor) TRON LoneWulffe_Sturmbock

Tron, Skylark is still here and I share your feelings somewhat. Since the dark time, I too, have noticed a marked reduction in forum postings. Perhaps some have moved on while others maybe summer vacationing. I'm in the process of changing my internet server so my home connection will down for a short time. I recently posted an inquiry and received a few informative responses. So, I know, that they are out there and the forum hasn't died. It's just quiet. One of the things that has always impressed me about the RB3d sim. and it's followers is it's longevity and the it's ability to always bounce back. It's still the best dynamic campaign flight sims out there. So take heart and keep the faith. It's just quiet is all. Skylark .. out

I still read, but haven't seen anything that I feel I can contribute to. Mostly, this has to do with the limited amount of people that have been posting here. I can't say that I'm gunshy, but I am wondering whether it's worth writing responses anymore. I guess this means that I'm kinda frustrated with the RB forum, but mostly, I'm just leery about posting something that I feel is important and then have it be erased when if the forum closes again. Not that it's going to (crosses fingers), but still... It's a concern.

Skylark, thanks for the response, this all sounds reasonable. I will go back to my bunker and read a good book: (English title: "All quiet on the western front") I will be here to help, but not so often anymore. TRON LoneWulffe_Sturmbock

Seriously, though... if more people posted, I'd respond more. And I know that other people would too. So maybe talking like this is a good thing. To bring awareness to it. ------------------ ~Salut!~ JG1Klaiber_J6

I think some of the more passionate/vocal members that previously posted here had their feelings hurt by how things worked out earlier. Some of them may be the ones that got banned too. They fought for reasons they believed in and knew the consequences of their actions. To be honest I was unsure of whether or not I was banned too.
Given enough time I think most will eventually come back (those that can). RB is like crack to us, we can't help but get the itch to come back.
The reason I do come to this forum is becauseI think this forum is the best chance this game has to encourage more people to try it out. I think it has graphically kept up with other flight sims via player mods and the dynamic campaign is better than most of the scripted campaigns other flight sims offer.
Someone was posting pics of ROTJ planes in flight and I think that really encouraged a number of people to give RB3D a try. I think they were using hypersnap. Maybe we ought to have a "pic of the day" thread to show off what RB3D has to offer.
Another thing I would like to see is an effort to improve SP AI. While the AI is not BAD, after a few years of flying you can beat most anything the AI can throw at you. Of course the AI does not use Boom and Zoom tactics for the SE5A or the Spad XIII, which hamstrings those planes terribly.

Salute! I think quite a few things have contributed to the quite here lately. Wings of Honor is of course going through a change of hosting, all the guys with their stuff on delphi(oops I meant NBCi Flybert just reminded me) are having to put it someplace else also making them busy. I've seen a few names in WW2Online so guys trying something a bit different for a change too. They won't get their flying fix there though.IMHO Should get back to normal just in time for IL-2 to come out. Demo in September right? The one crippling thing to the RB3D community is the loss of 3dfx and glide, that hurts. I figure that i'll have two computers some day. One old one for RB3D and a brand new one for the new stuff. I'll probably use the old one more. ------------------ RB3D_Misfits_Squadron Best_RB3D_Forum_4_Info FS:SDOE_WW1_Online_Standard [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-04-2001).] [This message has been edited by Hentzau (edited 08-05-2001).]

That's exactly what I'm working on right now...two computers. However, one will be for the family, and one will be just for me! Both will be connected to the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse by an automatic A/B switch. I'm gonna run my Voodoo in tandem with the integrated 3D on the new mobo so that I can play RB3D and the newer games (like CFS2) on the faster machine. I'll be going from 166 MHz with 48 RAM (maxed out) to 900 MHz with 256 RAM (expandable to 512). Also, I'll be working off a Windows 98 platform since I've heard both good and bad about ME and 2000 and our game. I've been researching this for the last six months and my squadmates tell me this should work out fine for what I want--i.e., increased FPS flying RB3D on-line, plus the juice to try out some of the newer flight sims coming out. Something to think about! P.S. Salute, Sturmbock! Still here, bud! ------------------ LW_Herr MacMember of the Lone Wulffe Squadron http://www.LoneWulffe.com

Well...I'd certainly be posting more often if I hadn't cut my right hand to ribbons. Unlike some of you who developed your one-handed typing skills in cyber-chat rooms, this flying/typing with one wing drives me BONKERS!!! (j/k about the one-handed typing skills, by the way)

Gotta say that the only reason I'm reading here is because WOH is being upgraded. With mny sense of British humour I don't want to uset the people that are unable to take it So its back to WOH where the real pilots hang out as soon as its back up

Yes, the fact that RB3D is for all purposes tied to Glide has hit RB3D bad enough, but if IL-2 multiplay is anything like they say...
See, I'd wager most of the RB crowd nowadays are MMP players. One can only wonder how many of those remain when IL-2 competes for their time.
Excellent FM, DM and visuals in modifiable environment...
Oleg&Co missed the ball when it comes to SP but how many prospective players are going to tinker with rusty old Voodoos just to make this *one* game run beautifully in their system, no matter how excellent the campaing engine is (and it *has* its faults too) ?
Well, 4 years of rabid fans is a truly remarkable achievement for any game...
-It's the campaign engine, silly!-

I've been a bit busy in RL and getting my new URL squared away , http://www.flybert.net Please bookmark this .... NBCi.com(XOOM) is soon to shut down hosting and I haven't been able to upload there for 2 weeks. I'm redoing the last of my old pages (with the Dynamix shape files , getting 2 new sets of bomber/alternative model sets together along with tutorials for their use ... as well as finishing up the rather extensive Great War 5 set-up with Razman. Baron von Helton had a major computer crash/fry , so things are very quiet with ROTJ for the forseeable future
